Kroos: UEFA treats players like "puppets"

Cali are on the verge of elimination after suffering a humbling 3-0 defeat in the opening leg

The Liga Betplay is the top level of football in Colombia, with 19 teams from across the country fighting it out in the 2021 edition which started in January.

All games are live streamed on Fanatiz and you can sign up to watch free here.

The campaign is divided into two stages, with a winner crowned at the end of each phase following a play-off competition involving the best eight teams from the regular season.

Both the Apertura and Finalizacion are counted as league victories in their own right, marking a return to the previous format following alterations to the system during the Covid-affected 2020 season.

How to watch Deportivo Cali vs Tolima

Deportivo Cali enjoyed a strong Apertura season, losing only three of their 18 games to take third place in the table.

That ensured them preferential seeding for the quarter-final stage, although Tolima promised to be a tricky tie nevertheless.

Tolima were in brilliant form at the start of the campaign, before collapsing around the midway stage.

Los Pijaos won just once in their last seven games, although their early-season record meant they managed to reach the play-offs.

And they had a surprise in store for Cali, thrashing the visitors 3-0 in the first leg of the quarters to place one foot in the last four.

Deportivo Cali vs Tolima is available to stream worldwide on Fanatiz , where you can sign up for a 7-day free trial.

Leicester Defender Wesley Fofana Struggling With Knee Injury

The two coaches have guided their sides to the semi-finals of the men's and women's Champions League competitions and could create history together

Chelsea women’s manager Emma Hayes has lauded the knowledge of men’s head coach Thomas Tuchel on the women’s game, following conversations between the two coaches.

Tuchel was appointed by Chelsea back in January after the departure of Frank Lampard. He has since guided the team to the semi-finals of the Champions League and the final of the FA Cup.

It’s a good time to be a fan of the club – with Hayes’ side top of the Women’s Super League table and also in the last four in Europe, having picked up the Continental Cup earlier this season. Speaking to the media this week ahead of her side’s second leg with Bayern Munich on Sunday, Hayes expressed her excitement about what is going on across the board in the club.

What has been said?

“I had a lovely encounter with Thomas Tuchel,” Hayes said this week. “He's a fantastic guy, a really open-minded, progressive coach. He loves the team. He knows women's football. We had a chat about his time at PSG. We just exchanged conversation in and around Chelsea to be honest with you.

“I've been here a long time, so I welcomed him to the club. I'm really excited about him being here. He is top coach, and I'm sure there'll be plenty of interactions between us in his time. There's a reason why the men's team are performing like they are and if we can mirror that success side by side, how fantastic that would be.

“I've always said this about Chelsea - we always talk about winning in this place,” Hayes, who has won nine trophies in her nine years in charge, continued. “Now, that's what comes with the territory and we don't mind the pressure, the expectations, the tags, the titles, whatever comes with it.

“We just know that we're a club that want to be in winning positions. It's great to think that both the men's and the women's teams have reached these stages, but as I always say, we're about winning things, not just getting here.”

Chelsea’s chance to make Champions League history

With the club in the semi-finals of the both the men's and women's Champions League, there is a chance for Chelsea to create history. No club has ever seen its men’s team and women’s team crowned champions of Europe. Should Hayes and Tuchel's teams lift the trophy this season, Chelsea would become the first to do so.

The women’s team will take on Bayern on Sunday in the second leg of their semi-final, trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Germany but bringing a crucial away goal home with them.

There is even the opportunity to go one better and possibly become the first club to win both competitions in the same season, with the men’s team also in the Champions League semi-finals.

Tuchel and his players also grabbed an away goal in the first leg of their tie in midweek, drawing 1-1 with Real Madrid in Spain on Tuesday. They will host the 13-time European champions on Wednesday, knowing a win will take them into a first final since they won the Champions League in 2012.

'Messi gives me a hard-on' - Brest boss Zakarian makes bizarre comments on PSG target

As the Bundesliga outfit battle for a Champions League berth next season, two of their brightest talents have been linked with the exit door

Jadon Sancho has a gentlemen's agreement with Borussia Dortmund that would allow him to secure an exit under certain criteria, sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed - but the same understanding does not apply to Erling Haaland.

The attacking duo, widely considered among the best young talents in the world game, have been linked with a move away following a frustrating season that sees Dortmund face the risk of missing out on Champions League football.

Norway international Haaland has already been touted to a host of rivals across Europe by agent Mino Raiola and father Alf-Inge, but Zorc has now moved to confirm that the Leeds-born star would not be able to leave as easily as his team-mate, who holds an informal understanding over any potential exit.

What has been said?

"We already had a gentlemen's agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions," Zorc told ARD .

"He's been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling."

The 58-year-old further confirmed that this agreement was almost activated last summer during Manchester United's pursuit of Sancho, adding: "In the end, the requirements were not met."

Future clouded for Dortmund duo

Previous reports have suggested that Haaland would be unable to force an exit from his current home until mid-2022 at the earliest, owing to a clause in his current contract that runs through 2024.

This has not stopped Raiola from hawking his player's services on a well-documented European tour earlier this year, with stops at Barcelona and Real Madrid to reportedly offer the player out.

Sancho, who previously arrived at Dortmund from Manchester City, has continued to be linked to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Red Devils following their unsuccessful pursuit last term, though the winger is likely to be more focused on earning England selection for Euro 2020 than any move at present.

Hakimi's stoppage-time strike sinks Simy's Crotone in Serie A

Despite his goalscoring heroics this year, the Nigeria striker will play in the Italian second division next season

Simy Nwankwo's Crotone have been relegated from the Serie A following a 2-0 defeat to Inter Milan on Saturday.

The Super Eagles forward played from start to finish at the Stadio Ezio Scida as second-half goals from Christian Eriksen and Achraf Hakimi condemned the hosts to their 26th league defeat of the season.

With four games remaining in the Italian top-flight, Crotone remain at the bottom of the table after gathering 18 points after 34 matches and they are 13 points away from safety.

The Pythagoreans became the first team to suffer relegation in the 2019-20 Serie A season while 19th-placed Parma await their fate when they travel to Torino for their next league fixture on Monday.

Simy could not add to his tally of 19 goals after 34 league appearances for Serse Cosmi's side on Saturday, however, Algeria's Adam Ounas, Libya's Ahmed Benali and Ivory Coast's Koffi Djidji were also in action for the hosts.

On the other hand, Morocco defender Hakimi continued his fine debut campaign in Italy and he took his tally to seven goals with his stoppage-time effort for Antonio Conte's men.

The former Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund full-back also has six assists under his belt after 33 league appearances.

Following Saturday’s disappointment, Simy will shift his focus to helping Crotone end the 2020-21 season on a high with games against Roma, Hellas Verona, Benevento and Fiorentina still to come.

The 28-year-old surpassed Obafemi Martins’ record of 28 goals for Inter Milan in the Serie A, to become the highest scoring Nigerian player in the history of the Italian league with 29 goals.

Crotone were promoted to the Serie A last year after their second-place finish in the 2019-20 Serie B campaign and Simy has been at the club since he left Portuguese club Gil Vicente in July 2016.

Ganago strike not enough as Lens lose against Gueye’s Paris Saint-Germain

The Cameroon international found the back of the net but his effort could not save the Blood and Gold from defeat at Parc des Princes

Ignatius Ganago was on the scoresheet as Lens lost 2-1 to Idrissa Gueye’s Paris Saint-Germain in Saturday’s Ligue 1 game.

Ganago was afforded his 13th league start of the season and utilized the opportunity to increase his tally for the Blood and Gold.

The Cameroon international’s effort was, however, not enough to help Franck Haise’s men continue their unbeaten run.

Senegal international Gueye also started the encounter for the Parisians and played a significant role to ensure his side secured all three points.

The midfielder was recently suspended from the Champions League after he was shown a straight red card during PSG’s defeat to Manchester City in the first leg of their semi-finals clash on Wednesday.

Lens started the encounter on the back foot allowing PSG to open the scoring in the 33rd minute through Neymar after benefitting from Julian Draxler’s assist.

Moments before the hour mark Mauricio Pochettino’s men were two-goal up after Marquinhos headed home Neymar’s cross.

Ganago then reduced the deficit for the Blood and Gold, firing his effort from close range beyond the reach of goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Mauro Icardi then thought he had opened the scoring in the 83rd minute when he hit the back of the net but the video assistant referee ruled out ht effort for offside.

Despite the effort from Lens to try and level matters, PSG held on to their lead to clinch victory at Parc des Princes.

Ganago featured for 69 minutes before making way for the Democratic Republic of the Congo international Gael Kakuta.

Gueye, meanwhile, played for 60 minutes before he was replaced by Marco Verratti and made one tackle, two interceptions as part of his contribution.

Ganago has now scored seven goals and provided three assists in 22 league games, amid other dazzling displays.

The forward will hope to help Lens return to winning ways when they take on Lille in their next league game on May 7.

Harry Kane discussing Qatar World Cup protest with fellow international captains

The Nigerian goalkeeper maintained her fantastic form in goal for the French outfit after ensuring her side's double against the hosts

Chiamaka Nnadozie was at her best between the sticks as she kept her fifth clean sheet for Paris following her side's 4-0 triumph over Issy in the French D1 Arkema encounter on Saturday.

The Nigeria international had made her long-awaited French D1 Arkema debut against Issy on October 10 and went on to help her side ground out a clean sheet, after a 5-0 triumph.

Following her superb performance so far this term, Nnadozie was handed her 11th starting role against Issy and she replicated her first leg fine form to ensure her side completed a season double.

On the heels of a 2-0 win over Fleury 91, Paris continued their impressive run as Thea Greboval opened the scoring seven minutes into the encounter at Stade Le Gallo.

Greboval went on to double the lead for coach Sandrine Soubeyrand's side with her second of the match in the 36th minute before Gaetane Thiney got the third from the spot four minutes from time.

After the break, Paris maintained their dominance in the encounter as Celina Hocine set up Clara Mateo to hit the fourth in the 57th minute to wrap up the triumph for the visitors.

Nnadozie lasted the duration of the match on her debut for Paris as her side claimed their ninth win of the season in style.

On the other hand, Senegalese-French born player Stephanie Bayo was in action for 62 minutes but could not save her side from defeat.

The win keeps Paris in fourth spot in the French log with 31 points from 18 games, while Issy are 11th with 10 points.

In their next fixture, Paris will welcome city rivals PSG on May 6, while Issy will visit leaders Lyon three days later.

Vela and Ruidiaz scores as MLS All-Stars down Liga MX All-Stars

The Porcupine Warriors proved too strong for The Royals in the matchday 23 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium

Asante Kotoko are back on top of the Ghana Premier League table following a 1-0 away victory over Legon Cities on Saturday.

Emmanuel Gyamfi's first half strike proved decisive in the matchday 23 tie at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Kotoko, who lost first position following a 2-1 defeat to Medeama last week, have moved back to the summit of the standings, at least temporarily, ahead of Sunday's round of games.

Legon, on the other hand, are caught up in the relegation zone in 16th position.

Kotoko coach Mariano Barreto made three changes to his starting team, restoring Mudasiru Salifu, Christopher Nettey and Godfred Asiamah into the set-up.

Legon relegated veteran Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan to the bench, instead putting faith in the likes of Jonah Attuquaye, in-form Hans Kwoffie and Niger forward Victorien Adebayor.

The away side broke the deadlock in the 13th minute through Okrah, whose touch on Fabio Gama's free-kick was enough to steer the ball into the back of the net.

Four minutes later, Kwoffie had a good chance to draw Legon level after picking up a through pass inside the box but his effort was blocked by goalkeeper Razak Abalora.

In the 22nd minute, The Royals were forced into an early substitution as Shamsu Alhassan picked up an injury and was replaced by former Kotoko attacker Baba Mahama.

Then Adebayor attempted to send a curling effort into the top left corner but Abalora was once again on hand to handle the danger.

Emmanuel Gyamfi, having fended off a challenge in the box, could have doubled Kotoko's lead but his strike flew just wide.

Just back after the break, Gyamfi found himself in a good position once again, attacking from the right-wing, but his shot from the edge of the box flashed across the face of goal.

Attuquaye responded with a shot for Legon but his effort just outside the box went off target.

In the 66th minute, Nettey was picked out by a Gama pass but the final shot was denied by goalkeeper Winfred Honu.

Legon had a glorious chance to equal the score when Mahama went on a dangerous run from the centre circle in the 68th minute but the attacker's attempt to shoot through the legs of onrushing Abalora saw the ball go straight into the goalkeeper's body.

Gyan was then introduced into the game in place of Kwoffie in the 75th minute in The Royals' search for an equaliser.

Four minutes to full-time, Salifu Mudasiru was set up by Gyamfi for a shot but the midfielder's half volley flew over the bar.

After five minutes of injury time, the referee brought the game to an end.

How to watch Millonarios vs America de Cali

Millonarios clinched their play-off spot with a game to spare thanks to a last-gasp win over Bogota rivals Santa Fe.

The hosts went into injury time 1-0 ahead, only to see Millonarios hit in the 91st and 97th minute to turn the tables.

Another win on the final weekend over Deportivo Cali helped the giants into third place in the Apertura.

America were the last team to seal their spot in the top eight, having gone into the last round tied on 26 points with Medellin.

The Diablos Rojos dispatched Tolima while Medellin fell to Once Caldas, eliminating them from contention.

Their reward was a quarter-final meeting with Millonarios, with the Bogota team prevailing 2-1 in the first leg in Cali which saw a player sent off on both sides.

Minamino didn’t feel deserving of Premier League medal & wants to prove worth at Liverpool

Although the Hornets bowed to the Bees, the striker revealed that his team are hoping to end the 2020-21 campaign on a high

Isaac Success disclosed Watford are aiming to end the Championship season on a high despite losing to Brentford on Saturday.

Marcus Forss' goal and Ivan Toney’s penalty in the second half powered Thomas Frank’s Bees to a 2-0 triumph over the Hornets at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The defeat comes a week after the Vicarage Stadium giants sealed their return to the Premier League thanks to a 1-0 defeat of Millwall.

Reacting to the loss, the Nigerian who was brought in for Tom Cleverley in the 31st minute claimed his team would be upset after losing to the play-off contenders.

“Brentford are a top team and they’ve been competitive since the beginning of the season,” the former Granada player told Hive Live.

“We tried to get the three points but unluckily for us, we’re leaving the stadium with no points.

“The boys have been giving everything in training week in, week out, even after the promotion.

“We’ve been fully focused on the coming games, so everyone will be upset right now in the dressing room but we’ll go home, get back to training and try to get the last three points of the season next weekend.”

Xisco Munoz’s men were without injured Kiko Femenía, Nathaniel Chalobah, Carlos Sanchez, Ismaila Sarr and Joao Pedro, and then lost both Joseph Hungbo and Cleverley during the opening half-hour.

As if the changes disrupted the team’s game plan, the 25-year-old stated: “Not really because the players coming in can fit into the positions and the tactics of the team.

“I think the boys were just a little bit heavy and fatigued because it’s been a long season.

“We wanted to come here and get the three points, but now we’re looking to finish in style against Swansea.”

Watford would be aiming to end the season on a high when they welcome Andre Ayew’s Swans to Vicarage Road on May 8.

Success has struggled to establish himself at Watford since teaming up with the side from Spanish side Granada in 2016.

The former Nigeria U17 wonderkid has managed seven goals in 51 league appearances for the English second-tier club due to injury problems and a loss of form.

Uganda's Ikpeazu fires Wycombe Wanderers to victory as Mikel's Stoke City fall to QPR

The Uganda forward secured maximum points for the Blues but it doesn't change their relegation fate

Uche Ikpeazu scored the only goal as Wycombe Wanderers secured a 1-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth in Saturday's Championship encounter.

The 26-year-old found the back of the net in the fourth minute to separate both teams as the Blues grabbed maximum points at Adams Park.

The effort took Ikpeazu’s tally to six goals after 30 Championship appearances this season but it didn't stop Wycombe Wanderers from going down to League One.

Gareth Ainsworth's side is at the bottom of the league table with 40 points after 45 games.

Although they are three points away from safety with a game remaining in the second division, Wycombe Wanderers have a -33 goal difference - the lowest in the league.

Ikpeazu played the entire duration alongside Zimbabwe's Admiral Muskwe while his compatriot Jordan Zemura came on as a second-half substitute for Bournemouth.

Elsewhere in Stoke City, former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel played from start to finish as the Potters suffered a 2-0 loss to Queens Park Rangers.

Sierra Leone midfielder Osman Kakay doubled QPR's lead in the 70th minute after Charlie Austin's first-half opener and Senegal goalkeeper Seny Dieng was also in action for Rangers and kept a clean sheet between the sticks.

Ibrahima Konate: Could Liverpool target hold the key to Reds resurgence?

The RB Leipzig defender is reportedly drawing admiring glances from Anfield, and could reinvigorate the champions following a lacklustre title defence

Sunday’s meeting with Manchester United at Old Trafford is one that could have serious implications for Liverpool’s season.

The Reds are, at the moment, only a point off a place in the top four, but the very real prospect of losing – on a ground where they have not won since 2014, no less – could see them fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since Jurgen Klopp’s first season in charge at the club.

While it is impossible to exhaustively prescribe the root of their struggles this term, a combination of injuries, the accumulated fatigue of chasing and overhauling a historic Manchester City side under Pep Guardiola, and the effect of the Covid pandemic on the global footballing calendar have all contributed to a poor campaign by Liverpool’s standards.

That those injuries all seemed to hit the same department of the team can be considered unfortunate, but for large portions of the season the Reds’ approach to the whittling down of their options at centre-back was oddly passive.

The loss of Virgil van Dijk, hailed as the single most transformative acquisition of all in the Klopp era, was bound to affect the team’s rhythm and security, but it need not have been terminal. However, further long-term knocks to Joe Gomez and Joel Matip demanded addressing right away, but only at the end of the January window did the club act, bringing in the duo of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies from Schalke and Preston North End respectively.

By that point, the damage was pretty much done.

It appears now that a lesson has been learnt, albeit belatedly.

Recent reports are linking RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate to the Merseyside club, with some sources claiming it is only a matter of time before the Reds pay the release clause for the 21-year-old centre-back of Malian descent.

That would significantly swell the number of centre-backs at Kirkby, but with Matip prone to injury, Gomez’s form inconsistent even pre-injury, Kabak struggling to properly adapt to the demands of Klopp’s system, and both Nathaniel Philips and Rhys Williams as yet unready for the very top level, there can be no pretence: there is certainly room for a player of Konate’s ability.

Standing at 6ft 4in and possessing tremendous speed across the ground, he is a dominant defensive presence who, for many, is even better than his much-vaunted teammate Dayot Upamecano, who will join Bayern Munich in the summer.

“In terms of his playing style he is very good at tackles due to his physique,” says Goal Germany editor Stanislav Schupp. “Pace, positioning, intercepting passes and building from the back are also among his strengths - that's why he's sometimes compared to Virgil van Dijk.”

Watch Konate, and it is easy to see where the parallel comes from.

He brings the same air of quiet calm when defending that means he is rarely out of control, uses his frame well to get in front of attackers and times his interventions almost impeccably.

He is also, like Van Dijk, adept at bringing the ball out; unlike the Dutchman though, he can do so through dribbling past pressure and bursting into midfield, a skillset that would give Liverpool an added dimension both in build-up and attacking transition.

Indeed it is that propensity for the unusual that has marked him out for greatness for quite a while, and that makes him such a fascinating defender. If he has not begun to properly realize that potential, it is as a result of an unfortunate injury record that has denied him a run in the team to further his development.

“This season he's struggled a lot with injuries, which is why he has only played 13 matches in the Bundesliga so far, starting seven times," Schupp says. "Still, he is one of the biggest talents in Leipzig's squad.

“When signing him back in 2017 former Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick said about him: ‘He's so good that he could play for Real Madrid or Barcelona one day.’ Last month [Julian] Nagelsmann also spoke about Konate and said: ‘He's a great talent, a very good player who has a lot of potential. He has the playing class and also the playfulness that I like.

"He always does crazy things in training, something not very typical for a central defender.’”

Alongside Van Dijk, Konate would form an even stronger defensive partnership than Liverpool had before.

He also handily provides the option of using a different shape at the back (he is well-versed in playing in a back three, being that has been Nagelsmann’s preferred system at Leipzig) should Klopp be minded to evolve the team’s tactical identity in search of fresh impetus next season.

Until the Dutch Colossus returns, however, Konate may be the key to ensuring the Reds do not begin 2021/22 already playing catch-up to the league’s heavy hitters.

Simba SC 2-1 Kagera Sugar: Mnyama roar into quarter-finals in Tanzania Cup

Tanzania Cup defending champions Simba SC came from a goal down to defeat Kagera Sugar 2-1 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Saturday to seal their place in the quarter-finals.

Erick Mwaijage struck for the Sugar Millers, but Bernard Morrison and Meddie Kagere replied to ensure Mnyama advanced.

The two teams had recently met in the Tanzania Mainland League assignment and Wekundu wa Msimbazi claimed a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Chris Mugalu and Luis Miquissone.

It seemed the lesson had been learned by the Sugar Millers who started the game at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam better. They limited their opponents space to play with the soggy pitch, also making it tough for players to pass the ball.

Both teams struggled to create scoring chances and it seemed the first half would end goalless but it changed a minute to the break. Yusuph Mhilu passed the ball to the advancing Dickson Mhilu who crossed the ball to the danger zone, and Mwaijage rose highest to head the ball past Taifa Stars custodian Aishi Manula.

The defending champions came harder after the pause, pressing for an equalizer.

They were eventually rewarded in the 56th minute. Luis Miquissone skipped a challenge to cross the ball from the right. Captain John Raphael Bocco missed it but the Ghanaian Morrison was there to tap the ball home.

The scorer became the provider 10 minutes later; Kagera lost possession in the danger zone and the Ghanaian managed to pass it to the unmarked Kagere whose first-time effort found the back of the net.

In another Round of 16 match played at the Jamhuri Stadium, Dodoma Jiji also made it to the last eight after a 2-0 win over the Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC).

Samson Hamisi managed to beat the defenders before unleashing a fierce strike which hit the crossbar after just 20 minutes. The rebound fell to Seif Karihe who converted to make it 1-0 in favour of his team.

Dodoma doubled the advantage with four minutes to the break courtesy of Dickson Ambundo.

Yanga SC also made it to the last eight after their controversial 1-0 win over Tanzania Prisons on Saturday. Mwadui defeated Coastal Union 2-0 to advance.

Tuchel tops Mourinho to make Premier League history with 11th Chelsea clean sheet

The Blues boss has secured more shutouts through his opening 15 games than any manager before him in the English top flight

Thomas Tuchel has made Premier League history, topping former Chelsea managers Jose Mourinho and Luiz Felipe Scolari in the process.

The German tactician has made the desired impact at Stamford Bridge since being asked to succeed Frank Lampard in January.

He has secured a top-four standing, FA Cup final berth and a spot in the Champions League semi-finals, with success in west London being built on the sturdiest of defensive foundations.

What is the record set by Tuchel?

Chelsea's latest outing saw them collect a 2-0 derby victory over neighbours Fulham, with Kai Havertz bagging a match-winning brace.

That result has cemented the Blues' standing in fourth spot with four games left to play.

It also saw them collect an 11th top-flight clean sheet under Tuchel, from just 15 games with the former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss calling the shots.

No Premier League manager before him can claim to have emulated those efforts, with Mourinho and Scolari opening their respective spells in English football with 10 shutouts from 15 fixtures.

Any other business?

While Havertz was the hero for Chelsea against Fulham, his fellow countryman Timo Werner put in another lively display.

The Germany international continues to struggle for goals, but did tee up another against the Cottagers.

His second-half assist allowed Havertz to double his return for the day and wrap up a welcome three points.

Werner is now into double figures for goals (10) and assists (11), becoming the first man to hit that mark for Chelsea since Eden Hazard in 2012-13.

He is also one of just five Premier League players to have achieved that feat this season - with the others being Harry Kane, Bruno Fernandes, Son Heung-min and Marcus Rashford.

PSG confirm arrival of Luis Campos as new sporting advisor

The match in Soweto comes just two weeks after Masandawana thrashed the Buccaneers 4-1 in a Nedbank Cup quarter-final tie at Loftus Versfeld

Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise believes both of his former clubs will be highly motivated when they meet at Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a league encounter.

Having beaten Pirates so emphatically recently, Masandawana were looking well-placed for a domestic double of the Nedbank Cup and league title.

But they’ve since been eliminated from the Nedbank Cup by TTM, while some poor results in the league have seen them being overtaken at the summit, following AmaZulu’s 1-0 win over Golden Arrows on Saturday.

Bucs meanwhile will still be stinging from the cup loss, according to Modise. And commenting in his role as a SuperSport TV presenter, he’s expecting the match to live up to its billing.

"When you think of these big teams you think of that goal from Hlompho Kekana at Orlando Stadium,” Modise said in reference to Kekana’s long-range shot from the halfway line which beat Wayne Sandilands in a 3-1 win for the Brazilians in November 2017.

"You know, there's always some memories which comes from Orlando Stadium, especially with this type of fixture. So I'm expecting fireworks because now the pressure is on Sundowns.

"And also for Orlando Pirates as well - the wounds are still fresh from that [defeat] in the cup, so they also want to banish those wounds and bring a victory, especially to the fans.

"And also put themselves in a better position on the log. What AmaZulu are doing now is [giving belief] to more teams that are chasing."

Like Sundowns, Pirates have played 23 league games. AmaZulu, top with 50 points, have played 26 matches.

Bucs are trailing Usuthu by 11 points, and so a win against Masandawana would close that gap to eight points, and with two games still in hand, they may then be in with an outside chance at the title themselves.

Sundowns, chasing a fourth consecutive league title and an 11th in total in the PSL era, will move to 51 points if they win in Soweto on Sunday.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Hunt blames 'old Achilles Heel' for Bloemfontein Celtic setback

The Glamour Boys had started the match with great intensity and were two goals up inside 13 minutes, only to allow Phunya Sele Sele to snatch a draw

Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt was happy with the effort his men gave him but was displeased with the defending in their 2-2 league draw with Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Saturday.

After two well-taken early goals, a Happy Mashiane free-kick and an Eric Mathoho header, it was looking good for Hunt's charges.

But things unravelled as Celtic cut through the Amakhosi defence to pull a goal back through Neo Maema in the first half before Victor Letsoalo equalised with a 54th-minute penalty after a clumsy challenge by Siyabonga Ngezana.

For Hunt, there were positives and negatives to take from the match.

"Great performance again, I thought it was a good performance on Wednesday when we lost 1-0 [against Chippa United at the FNB Stadium]," the former Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United coach told Chiefs media.

"I thought it was a good performance again today. But the old Achilles Heel of our team, you know, is defending.

"I always say you can't win anything without good defending, defending starts from the front."

Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi as well as both goal scorers, Mashiane and Mathoho, were forced to leave the action after getting injured, another factor Hunt feels may have contributed to the final outcome of the game.

"A bit unfortunate, as I said the whole season, we have been making changes, forced changes, before half time, after half-time," he added.

"In football it sometimes throws you off a little bit. But in saying that, I thought we had the better of the chances, we had more than enough to win the game.

"But you can't come away and score two goals and then draw the game, you should have been defending better, but it is what it is.

"If the players weren't giving everything, that would be a problem. But they're giving everything every week, they're trying and working hard and that's the most important thing in football."

Yanga SC vs Tanzania Prisons: Why did TFF hire 'blind' referee, asks Asukilie

Wananchi controversially eliminated the administrative side from the competition and the captain is still angry with the officials

Tanzania Prisons captain Benjamin Asukile is unhappy about what he describes as poor officiating and favouritism in the 1-0 loss to Yanga SC in the FA Cup.

In the game played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on Friday, Yacouba Songne was the hero for Timu ya Wananchi as his 55th-minute goal secured the quarter-final berth for his side.

However, the administrative charges were denied a massive chance to equalize as the referee ignored calls for a penalty even after it was obvious Lamine Moro had fouled Jeremia Juma in the danger zone.

The skipper has blatantly stated the referee was not fair on the game and it affected his team.

"It is not that we had a bad game, we struggled to get our fluency in the game because [Yanga] had also added another person on the pitch, referee," Asukile told reporters after the match.

"So if your opponent has the referee on his side, you cannot beat him. But in terms of playing, we were the best side.

"The referee denied us a penalty and when we inquired, he said he did not see the incident. So why should [Tanzania Football Federation] give responsibilities to blind referees who cannot see game-changing incidents?"

Prior to Friday's game, the two teams had met twice in the Tanzania Mainland League and both rounds had ended 1-1.

In another game played on Friday, Mwadui also made it to the last eight after defeating Coastal Union 2-0 at Mwadui Complex.

Rashid Roshwa opened the scoring for the hosts in the 14th minute when he capitalized on poor defending at the back. Wallace Kiango had played a good ball from the right flank but the clearance went as far as the forward, who did not hesitate to convert.

The provider became the scorer 10 minutes later, this time around beating his marker with pace before shooting past the custodian.

Simba SC are the defending champions after beating Namungo FC in last season's final 2-0.

However, the latter managed to play in the Caf Confederation Cup considering the fact that Wekundu wa Msimbazi had already qualified for the Caf Champions League by virtue of winning the league.

LIVE: Crotone vs Inter

Inter are unbeaten in 17 Serie A games, their longest unbeaten streak in a single season in the competition since February 2008.

Inter have scored 13 goals in five games against Crotone in Serie A, an average of 2.6 per game – there have been three wins for the Nerazzurri, a draw and a Rossoblu win.

Inter manager Antonio Conte, meanwhile, makes two changes despite his team's 1-0 victory over Hellas Verona last time out. Match-winning substitute Darmian starts at left wing-back, while Sensi slots into midfield. Perisic and Eriksen, respectively, drop out of the starting line-up and are named amongst the substitutes. Arturo Vidal and Aleksandar Kolarov remain sidelined due to injury.

Crotone head coach Serse Cosmi makes just one change following his side's 4-3 victory over fellow relegation strugglers Parma as Zanellato drops to the bench, with Benali taking his place in midfield. Striker Samuel Di Carmine misses out through injury.

Inter substitutes: Alexis Sanchez, Ivan Perisic, Andrea Pinamonti, Ionut Radu, Andrea Ranocchia, Daniele Padelli, Roberto Gagliardini, Christian Eriksen, Matias Vecino, Danilo D'Ambrosio, Ashley Young.

Inter XI (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni; Achraf Hakimi, Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Stefano Sensi, Matteo Darmian; Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez.

Crotone substitutes: Niccolo Zanellato, Eduardo Henrique, Gian Marco Crespi, Giuseppe Cuomo, Luis Rojas, Emmanuel Riviere, Milos Vulic, Marco Festa, Luca Marrone, Pedro Pereira, Jacopo Petriccione, Andrea Rispoli.

Crotone XI (3-5-2): Alex Cordaz; Lisandro Magallan, Vladimir Golemic, Koffi Djidji; Salvatore Molina, Junior Messias, Luca Cigarini, Ahmad Benali, Arkadiusz Reca; Adam Ounas, Simy.

If Inter defeat bottom-of-the-league Crotone - whose imminent relegation would be mathematically confirmed if they fail to win - and Atalanta do not beat Sassuolo tomorrow, the Nerazzurri will be confirmed as Serie A champions for the first time in over a decade.

Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Serie A fixture between Crotone and Inter.
