FC Zenit win Russian Premier League after decimating Kamano’s Lokomotiv Moscow

The Blue-White-Sky Blues have claimed the Russian top-flight diadem for the eighth time after tearing apart the Steam Locomotives

Francois Kamano’s Lokomotiv Moscow have surrendered the 2020-21 Russian Premier League title to FC Zenit St. Petersburg having suffered a 6-1 obliteration.

Heading into Sunday’s top of the table clash at the Krestovsky Stadium, the Steam Locomotives needed a win to stay in contention for the domestic diadem.

However, they were torn apart by the rampant hosts who had Sardar Azmoun score a hat-trick in the seven-goal thriller.

Following the outcome, Zenit have now emerged as champions of the competition for the eighth time with two games to spare.

Having won their last 13 games in all competitions on the bounce, Lokomotiv headed to Saint Petersburg with the ambition of causing an upset, but they were hit for six.

The hosts got off to a frustrating start as star player Wendel was subbed off for Sebastian Driussi in the 13th minute due to a serious injury. Nonetheless, they took the lead six minutes later courtesy of Artem Dzyuba.

Profiting from a poorly cleared ball by the visiting side’s backline, Driussi floated the ball past goalkeeper Guilherme.

In the 39th minute, Sardar Azmoun doubled the advantage after profiting from an assist from Driussi.

On the stroke of half-time, Azmoun completed his brace from the penalty spot following a foul by Brazilian defender Pablo.

A minute into the second half, the Iranian forward completed his treble to put his side four goals up when he slotted a one-time effort past Guilherme with Malcom floating a brilliant cross.

Sergey Semak continued with their breathtaking form in front of goal as Dzyuba increased the lead in the 51st minute.

Five minutes later, Kamano pulled one goal back for the visitors after stealing the ball from Yaroslav Rakitskyi before slotting past goalkeeper Andrey Lunev.

In the 67th minute, Malcom restored Zenit’s five-goal advantage with Dzyuba providing the last pass.

After featuring for 58 minutes, Guinean forward Kamano – who now boasts of five goals from 23 league matches – was taken off for Vitali Lisakovich in the 58th minute.

Whereas Cape Verde's Ze Luis was introduced for Fedor Smolov in the 65th minute.

With the title already lost, Lokomotiv will compete against Victor Moses’ Spartak Moscow for the second position – which is the league’s last Champions League qualification slot.

Okereke in action as Club Brugge hold Mukairu's Anderlecht

A late goal from Bas Dost helped Paul Clement's men snatch a point in Brugge on Sunday

David Okereke was in action as Club Brugge battled to a 2-2 draw against Anderlecht in the Belgian First Division A play-offs.

The Nigerian forward came on as an 80th-minute substitute for Ignace van der Brempt while his compatriot Paul Mukairu was an unused substitute for Anderlecht on Sunday.

After a goalless first 45 minutes at Jan Breydelstadion, Noa Lang opened the scoring for the hosts four minutes into the second half.

The lead did not last long as Anderlecht fought back with a leveller from Lukas Nmecha in the 64th minute and they turned the game around with a second goal from Jacob Bruun Larsen in the 86th minute.

Anderlecht were on the verge of grabbing maximum points but a late goal from Bas Dost denied them victory and both teams settled for a share of the spoils.

Despite the dropped points, Club Brugge remain at the top of the play-offs table with 39 points after their overall points at the end of the regular season were halved.

Paul Onuachu's Genk are second with 31 points after their 3-2 win over Royal Antwerp on Friday and Anderlecht follow in the third spot with 30 points.

Okereke scored four goals during the regular league season but he will be focused on helping Club Brugge secure maximum points when they visit Onauchu's Genk for their next match on Friday.

After sitting on the bench on Sunday, Mukairu alongside Ghana's Majeed Ashimeru will hope to steer Anderlecht to victory when they host Royal Antwerp for their match on May 8.

The Nigerian forward scored two goals in 23 appearances during the regular First Division A season.

Mukairu is currently on a season-long loan from Turkish Super Lig club Antalyaspor, where he made his professional debut in 2019 after leaving Abuja-based club FC Heart Academy.

The 21-year-old rose through the ranks in Antalyaspor and he scored three goals in 24 appearances during the 2019-20 Super Lig campaign.

Okereke, however, earned his Super Eagles debut in 2019 and he was an unused substitute in Nigeria's 1-0 win over Egypt in an international friendly match.

He also played a role in helping Dream Team VII qualify for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt two years ago with his goal in the 4-0 thumping of Libya.

Kaizer Chiefs have Cardoso and they have Hlatshwayo - Twitter reacts to Orlando Pirates' humiliating loss

Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the Gauteng Derby and some compared Tyson with the Amakhosi defender

Mamelodi Sundowns humiliated Orlando Pirates for the second time this season when they secured an emphatic 3-0 victory in a blockbuster PSL clash at Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It is Bucs' heaviest home defeat in the league since February 2012 when they were thrashed 3-0 by Swallows FC in the original Soweto Derby match at Orlando Stadium with Bennett Chenene, Mpho Maleka and Katlego Mashego all scoring for the Beautiful Birds.

This time, second-half goals from Ricardo Nascimento, Peter Shalulile and Lyle Lakay inspired Sundowns to an impressive win over the Buccaneers, who also lost 4-1 to Masandawana in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final match in Tshwane on April 15.

Many unhappy Pirates fans took to social media to express their dissatisfaction regarding their team's performance and some slammed Thulani 'Tyson' Hlatshwayo with the experienced defender being compared with Kaizer Chiefs centre-back Daniel Cardoso

Here is how Twitter reacted to Pirates' embarrassing defeat:

Bayern strike late to secure third-straight win

The Sierra Leone international got his maiden goal for the Superhoops, to the pleasure of his club’s assistant manager

John Eustace has expressed his delight with Osman Kakay following his first goal for Queens Park Rangers.

The Sierra Leonean defender was on target as the Superhoops secured a 2-0 away victory versus Stoke City in Saturday’s EFL Championship encounter.

Charlie Austin had given the visitors a 17th-minute lead before the African sealed the win against Michael O'Neill’s team 20 minutes prior to full-time after profiting from a Stefan Johansen assist.

Impressed by the 23-year-old’s performance, QPR’s assistant manager waxed lyrical about his display.

“You could see how pleased everyone was for Ossie to get that goal, even the subs and the guys at the side of the pitch,” Eustace told the club website.

“He's such a good, honest player who has a fantastic attitude. And he's a model player for the club.

“He's come through the system and everyone's proud of him. That'll help him finish off what's been a good season for him.

Following knee surgery for boss Mark Warburton, Eustace led the team against the Potters at bet365 Stadium.

“I've spoken to the gaffer and he was obviously very pleased with the performance,” he continued.

“What pleased me was the way the boys stuck together when we weren't as fluid as we wanted to be. In the end, we kept a clean sheet against a really tough team.

“Full credit to the back five - they put their bodies on the line. They should be really pleased to keep a clean sheet here because this is a tough place to come and get one.

“We also scored two really good goals - one as a result of the shape work, we've been doing all week to set traps, and for the second goal we broke on the transition with lots of pace and power.”

Unlike last season where he had limited playing time, Kakay has featured in 27 league games with one goal to his credit in the 2020-21 campaign.

He is expected to marshal his team's backline when they welcome Luton Town to Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on the last day of the English second-tier season.

Sources: Spurs boost as Sessegnon set to return

The Amsterdam club became kings of the Netherlands once again on Sunday after last league season was cancelled due to the pandemic

Ajax have claimed their 35th Eredivisie title after the Dutch giants won the league on Sunday with three games to spare.

Sunday's 4-0 victory over Emmen was enough to lift Ajax back to the top of Dutch football after seeing last season abandoned due to the coronavirus, while also securing a domestic double after beating Vitesse Arnhem 2-1 in the cup final two weeks ago.

In total, Ajax have won the title in five of the last 10 seasons.

What was said?

“We were very solid throughout the season, we had a fairly high lower limit," said manager Erik ten Hag, who recently signed an extension with the club amid interest from Tottenham.

"That’s why we lost very few matches. And we peaked at the right times. We also had the worst schedule.”

Asked to rate the campaign out of 10, Ten Hag added, “It is very high. A 7.5 or an 8, I don’t know. It’s hard to say, I’ll leave that to you.”

'I'm always hungry'

Midfielder Dusan Tadic, who joined the club from Southampton in 2018, says he remains hungry for more trophies with Ajax, especially after missing out on the title last season.

Ajax were top of the table last season when the season was cancelled, leaving the Eredivisie without a champion. Now back atop Dutch football, Tadic has claimed his second title with the Dutch side, but he doesn't want it to be his last.

"I wanted this, the club wanted this and the people want this," Tadic told NOS. "I'm always hungry, that's the most important thing."

Tadic added that he was disappointed to lift the trophy in an empty stadium, although Ajax fans did gather outside the stadium in celebration.

"This is different," says Tadic. "We play for the people."

Defender Daley Blind added: "We are living in a difficult time. We have to stick to the rules, but let the fans go wrong. Personally, I think it's fantastic that they are outside."

JKT Tanzania 2-3 Namungo FC: Visitors seal their place in Tanzania Cup quarter-finals

Rhino Rangers, Biashara United, Mwadui FC, Azam FC, Yanga SC, Simba SC, and Dodoma Jiji FC are the other teams in the last eight

Namungo FC survived a late rally from JKT Tanzania to win 3-2 and make it to the quarter-finals of the Tanzania Cup on Sunday.

Reliants Lusajo scored a hat-trick or the visitors with Musa Said and Najim Magulu scoring for the hosts.

Namungo reached the final last season where they lost to 2-1 to Simba SC, and were aiming to advance from the Round of 16 after struggling in the Tanzania Mainland League.

For JKT, this was an opportunity to challenge for the game well and needed just 23 minutes to get their first goal. Goalkeeper Mrisho Musa fumbled a seemingly harmless ball from Fredy Tangalo, it fell to Lusajo who had no problems in tapping the ball into an empty net.

Four minutes later, the forward doubled the advantage after Monday George was dispossessed by Stephen Sey and he passed the ball to Lusajo, who kept his cool to complete his brace.

The two goals were a wake-up call for the hosts who struggled to get the ball in scoring positions. For Namungo, they played without tension as they were not under pressure having scored two early goals.

Two minutes to the half-break, Lusajo got his third of the game, when a long ball from the goalkeeper was flicked by Adam Salamba to the forward, who looped the ball past Musa to make it 3-0 in the first half.

After the break, the hosts came back strong, hoping to reduce the deficit and get back into the game.

However, beating their opponent's defenders was a tall order. They got a lifeline in the 70th minute when Said managed to beat the defenders and the goalkeeper.

In the 88th minute, JKT got their second goal when the ball was handled in the danger zone by Jaffari Mohamed and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Magulu sent goalkeeper Johnathan Nahimana the wrong way to score his fourth of the campaign. But the equalizer was not coming and Namungo made it to the last eight.

Rhino Rangers, Biashara United, Mwadui FC, Azam FC, Yanga SC, Simba SC, and Dodoma Jiji FC are the other teams in the quarter-finals.

Jack Grealish says Man City will use European heartbreak as motivation in title race

That is all from this LaLiga fixture, until next time!

A 3-2 win here pushes Barcelona up to second in LaLiga, two points behind Atletico Madrid, who they host next Saturday. That clash will play a large part in deciding who wins the league, given there is only four league games left to play. Valencia next face Real Valladolid as the hosts look to improve on their 14th-place standing in the Spanish top-flight.

Barcelona win 3-2 on the road to keep the pressure on league-leaders Atletico Madrid. After a fairly quiet first half, Gabriel headed home a second-half opener, despite Ter Stegen's best claims for a foul from Soler's corner. Messi then had the chance to respond from the penalty spot, however, his effort was saved but the Argentine made up for it moments later by scrambling home on the rebound from Pedri's shot. Griezmann's tap-in put the visitors ahead before a wonderful free-kick from Messi seemed to have sealed the game. An equally impressive right-footed long-range strike from Soler gave Valencia hope, however, they couldn't find a late equaliser at the end.

90' + 4' FULL-TIME: VALENCIA 2-3 BARCELONA

90' + 3' Griezmann has the chance to drive down the left flank but instead he finds Messi in the centre. The Argentine fakes to shoot, dancing around two or three tackles before playing backwards to retain possession and waste some more vital seconds.

90' + 1' There will be four minutes of added time as Roberto and his team-mates take an age to wander up the pitch towards a throw-in in the right-hand corner.

90' The visitors head clear on the edge of the area and Oliva looks to recreate Soler's goal but he smashes a right-footed effort from a similar distance high into the stands.

88' De Jong takes charge as he coasts past two tackles before Wass stops his progress, just as the Dutchman thought he had made it through the middle towards Cillessen's goal. A vital intervention by Wass keeps Valencia in the game.

86' Ter Stegen, already on a booking, takes his time as he bounces the ball in his hands before going long. Gracia paces about on the touchline and his side have four minutes plus additional time to find a late equaliser.

85' Barcelona are winless in their last three games at Mestalla in LaLiga (D2 L1), their worst such run without a win away against Valencia since April 1992 (D3 L2). Their winless run is set to end here, if they can hang on for five or so more minutes.

82' De Jong dummies a pass, letting the ball run past him and into the area. Diakhaby gets caught by surprise and the ball clips his hand but the referee waves play on. Despite Barcelona's appeals for a penalty, the referee disagrees and VAR sticks with the original decision.

81' Messi dances past a couple of tackles in the middle before feeding Griezmann to the right of goal. The French forward looks to cut back to Messi but Moriba gets in his way and the visitors manage to intervene.

80' Messi drives into the box, evading a tackle on the right before attempting to offload to De Jong. Gabriel, however, is on hand to intercept before the Dutchman gets the opportunity to test Cillessen.

77' Roberto twists and turns past Diakhaby inside the area on the right but his cross towards the back post is overhit. Alba recovers before sensibly opting to play backwards as this game approaches its final ten minutes.

73' There is a little bit of a lack of communication between Pique and Araujo, which invites Gomez to attack to the left of goal. Pique recovers, however, sweeping a right-footed clearance away before seeing the offside flag has gone up against Gomez anyway.

72' Barcelona have scored in each of their last 26 LaLiga matches (65 goals), their best league scoring run within a single season since June 2013 (38 matches and 115 goals overall).

71' De Jong is disappointed with the referee's decision as he is deemed to have fouled Soler in the middle. The hosts get another chance to cross from a set-piece but Araujo does well to head away before blocking on the rebound outside the area.

67' Wass and Soler combine to bring down Messi outside the area and the away side get a free-kick, 20 yards from goal in the centre. The midfield duo protest their innocence but they have offered another chance to the Argentine.

61' Gracia looks to be preparing some changes on the touchline. The hosts had the lead for all of seven minutes and their head coach will be frustrated in the manner in which they offered Barcelona a route back into the game.

59' Messi has scored 30 goals in 36 games against Valencia in all competitions. Only against Sevilla (38 in 43) and Atletico Madrid (32 in 42) has the Argentine scored more goals in his career.

56' PENALTY TO BARCELONA! Messi chips over the top for the forward run of De Jong into the area. Lato recovers and looks to have headed back to Cillessen. The referee, however, spots Lato has handled the ball to intervene and awards a penalty to the hosts. VAR has a quick check and sticks with the original decision.

55' Messi sends in a corner but Cillessen outjumps Araujo to claim above the centre-back. For his bravery, the referee gives Cillessen the free-kick, despite taking a different view on the earlier challenge on Ter Stegen for the opening goal.

54' Griezmann looks to respond for his side, striking a left-footed attempt into the chest of Guillamon and out for a corner on the left for the visitors.

52' OVER! The hosts, buoyed on by Gabriel's opener, go close again through Correia. Lato cuts inside from the left, feeding the perfect throughball to Correia on the opposite side of the area. The right-back has escaped the attentions of Alba but can only smash a right-footed effort over the bar with just Ter Stegen to beat.

49' CHANCE! Gomez leads the Valencia counter-attack as he races through the middle before choosing the unselfish option of rolling through his striker partner into the area. Guedes takes one touch to beat Pique, going one-on-one with Ter Stegen before firing his shot into the feet of the goalkeeper.

48' The second half starts as the first ended, with Barcelona dominating possession outside the area, knocking it around to drag the Valencia defence from side to side. The visitors do win a free-kick in the left-hand channel, however, they opt to go short and keep the ball at feet.

46' Referee Martinez gets the second half underway!

Koeman will be satisfied with his team's first-half showing, however, they need to be more clinical here. The Dutch manager may want to introduce the likes of Dembele or Moriba if the game remains level in the second half. Gracia, in contrast, will be happy with his side's performance but he too will want them to be more clinical on the counter-attack when the chance presents itself.

Barcelona started strongly, with Pedri nearly opening the scoring in the third minute after a wonderful, intricate move from the visitors. Araujo and Messi have both gone close for Koeman's men, however, neither have beaten Cillessen. Down the other end, Gaya looked like beating Ter Stegen but dragged his effort wide of the target. These sides go in at 0-0 at the break, in a game which Barcelona desperately need to win.

45' + 1' HALF-TIME: VALENCIA 0-0 BARCELONA

45' Another cross comes in from the left, this from De Jong. Pedri moves back to latch onto the ball, however, he catches Racic to offer the hosts a free-kick inside their own area and a well-deserved breather.

44' Griezmann's frustrations are audible as he becomes the next of the away side's attackers to go inches away from one of Alba's cross. The left wing-back is repeatedly finding space to provide teasing deliveries and it seems only a matter of time before one gets turned past Cillessen.

42' Gomez goes down holding his head after being caught by Araujo's knee in the middle. The referee waves play on, much to the annoyance of Gracia on the touchline as the Valencia head coach gets into a disagreement with the fourth official.

41' Dest does excellently as he races inside to cover for Pique and intervene as Guedes looks to lead a counter-attack. Moments before, Pedri was inches away from getting on the end of Alba's cross but Cillessen pushed away the danger in front of the Spanish youngster.

39' The visitors probe for two or three minutes with the ball outside the area but they can't break down the Valencia defence. Araujo, De Jong and Dest all try to cross or play through intricately but the hosts stand firm as they continue to defend deep.

37' Gracia has collected points in four of his seven games against Barcelona in LaLiga (W1 D3 L3), but also suffered his biggest defeat as a manager in the competition against them (0-7 as Osasuna boss in March 2014)

33' A first corner of the game comes on the right for Valencia. The hosts go short from the set-piece and Barcelona clear with ease as the likes of Gabriel and Guillamon are nowhere near the cross.

31' CLOSE! Messi cuts inside from the right of the area and goes down under the pressure of Gaya. The referee awards a set-piece, 20 yards from goal, which Messi takes. The Argentine whips over the wall but his left-footed strike also goes just over the bar as he set his sights on the top right corner.

30' Lenglet tactically fouls Gomez inside Valencia's half to stop the hosts from quickly breaking. Despite the French defender's cynical intervention, he escapes a booking from the referee, perhaps moving onto his last warning.

28' Gomez makes a run into the area, waiting for the cross from the left-hand channel by Gaya. The left-back delivers, however, Ter Stegen is on hand to intervene before the forward can challenge the Barcelona goal.

26' SAVE! Gaya, who has been the hosts' best attacking outlet so far, powers to the byline on the left and pulls back to the edge of the D. Racic runs onto his captain's offload, attempting to place a right-footed shot towards the bottom left corner, where Ter Stegen saves without having to parry away.

25' Griezmann wanders inside, reaching the away side's area before rolling through for Alba. The left wing-back whips another low cross across the face of goal but this time Gabriel manages to get a toe on the ball to divert it away from the incoming Messi inside the six-yard area.

24' No other team has scored more goals from high turnovers this season in LaLiga than Barcelona (6), while Valencia are the only team that has failed to score this way this season in the competition.

23' Pedri hesitates on the edge of the area and Soler catches the back of his ankle as he pokes away a clearance. The referee sees it differently, allowing play to go on before VAR confirms there is no need to award a penalty.

22' Koeman's side are relentless in their pressure high up the pitch as they look to force Gracia's men into a mistake. On this occasion they win the ball on the right, however, Dest loses out one-on-one with Gaya and the opportunity fades away.

20' CLOSE! Valencia have the chance to counter-attack after winning possession on the halfway line. Gaya rushes up in support, receiving the ball from Guedes and making it to the area before dragging a left-footed attempt just wide to the right of Ter Stegen's goal. Barcelona were caught sleeping there and they are lucky the full-back didn't punish them.

18' The visitors play lovely, flowing football on the move, with Messi finding De Jong and the midfielder rolling in Alba. The left wing-back reaches the byline, firing a low, left-footed cross across the face of goal but there is no forward to turn it past Cillessen.

16' Lenglet clatters into the back of Guedes to offer the home side a free-kick, 35 yards from goal to the right of centre. Soler and Lato stutter before delivering and Pique manages to smash a clearance away inside the area under relatively little pressure.

14' Messi and De Jong exchange a one-two but the former can't quite get to the ball as he races into the hosts' area. The Dutch midfielder seems to be enjoying himself more here, having moved forward into midfield after covering for Pique at centre-back in the last month or so.

13' SAVE! Messi clips a free-kick, around 35 yards from goal, over the Valencia defence and towards the penalty spot. Pique looks like getting to it but it finds Araujo, who volleys a right-footed effort at Cillessen from close range. The goalkeeper parries away a save and the hosts hook a clearance away inside the six-yard area.

12' Guillamon pulls out of defence to win the ball back but ends up fouling Pedri 35 yards from goal. Koeman's men will have a set-piece to the left of goal, which Messi stands over as he watches his defenders come forward.

11' Valencia are unbeaten in their last eight home games in LaLiga (W4 D4), the joint-best ongoing run without a loss at home of any team in the competition, alongside Athletic Club (W3 D5).

10' The away side manipulate possession from side to side, with Lenglet eventually going more direct and finding the head of Griezmann. The French forward gets in front of his man inside the area but can only send his headed effort well over the bar.

9' Despite Pedri's close effort in the third minute, it has been a fairly slow start to proceedings here. The hosts are sat deep inviting Barcelona, who are remaining patient, to attack. The visitors have seen the majority of the ball and are encouraging their wing-backs to push as high up the pitch as possible.

7' Gomez uses his experience as he backs into Lenglet on the left of the Barcelona defence. The referee doesn't fall for the forward's tactics, however, as he awards the away side a free-kick in their own half.

6' Griezmann acts as a decoy, letting a throughball run through his legs for the incoming Dest. The right wing-back powers forward but his progress is stopped by Gabriel, who calmly knocks back to his goalkeeper and Valencia regain possession.

5' Gaya roams forward, forcing Dest to follow him and chase a long ball on the left flank. The left-back has the beating of the American, however, the assistant has their flag up for offside and the move comes to an end.

3' WIDE! Intricate passing outside the area by the visitors sees de Jong break into the box, after a smart pass by Griezmann. The Dutchman opts to tee up Pedri, who fires a right-footed strike just wide of the right-hand post. A great Barcelona move, which deserved a goal, will serve as a warning sign for Gracia's men already.

2' Alba searches for Griezmann in the left-hand channel in the opening stages, however, Correia gets his first touch to intervene before the Frenchman can capitalise.

1' Referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez gets this game underway!

Valencia have won just one of their last nine games against Barcelona in LaLiga (D4 L4), although that was this exact fixture last season (2-0). Valencia have not won back-to-back games at home against the Catalans in the competition since 2007, both under Quique Sanchez Flores.

Koeman opts for four changes after disappointment against Granada. At the back, Mingueza and Umtiti are replaced by Araujo and Lenglet, who will work either side of Pique in the visitors’ three-man defence. Dest comes in for Roberto, who has only recently returned from injury, while Pedri replaces Moriba to join De Jong in midfield.

Gracia makes three changes from his team’s draw at home to Alaves. Musah and Gameiro drop to the bench as Correia and Lato come into the starting line-up. This change means Wass will move forward into midfield and Guedes will operate as a forward alongside Gomez. The other change sees Cillessen return in goal for Domenech, who moves to the bench.

SUBS: Samuel Umtiti, Riqui Puig, Neto, Arnau Tenas, Trincao, Ousmane Dembele, Sergi Roberto, Matheus Fernandes, Oscar Mingueza, Miralem Pjanic, Ilaix Moriba, Junior Firpo.

BARCELONA (3-5-2): Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet; Jordi Alba, Pedri, Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Sergino Dest; Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi.

SUBS: Manu Vallejo, Yunus Musah, Lee Kang-In, Mouctar Diakhaby, Cristiano Piccini, Christian Oliva, Ferro, Denis Cheryshev, Eliaquim Mangala, Jaume Domenech, Kevin Gameiro, Alex Blanco.

VALENCIA (4-4-2): Jasper Cillessen; Jose Gaya, Gabriel Paulista, Hugo Guillamon, Thierry Correia; Daniel Wass, Uros Racic, Carlos Soler, Toni Lato; Goncalo Guedes, Maxi Gomez.

Barcelona missed the chance to top the table as they fell to a shock 2-1 defeat against Granada in midweek. Ronald Koeman’s side sit in third, five points behind league-leaders Atletico Madrid but with a game in hand. Koeman was also sent off during the Granada clash, meaning he will serve a two-match suspension and be absent from the touchline here.

A disappointing campaign for Valencia has left them in 14th position, a standing which could further worsen with Barcelona and Sevilla to play in two of their next three league games. Last time out, the hosts drew 1-1 with Alaves, making it five LaLiga fixtures without a win. However, Javi Gracia’s team have only lost three of 16 home league fixtures this season, so by no means will they be pushovers against Barcelona.

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the LaLiga fixture between Valencia and Barcelona.

Rachel Sebati and Letago Madiba were impressive as Fatih Vatanspor progressed to the final of the Turkish Kadinlar Ligi, after a 1-0 semi-final victory over Fomget Genclik on Sunday.

Sebati and Madiba continued to propel their side in the competition, contributing two and one goals, respectively, for their new side, following their arrival from champions ALG Spor last summer.

To reach the last four, Fatih had finished runners-up in Group A with six points to reach the last eight of the tournament before Thursday's 4-3 win on penalties over Konak Belediyespor.

Having knocked out five-time winners Konak, Fatih were eager to reach the final of the competition and handed the South African duo starting roles and they shone in their side's triumph.

After inspiring the comeback against Konak, Zelal Baturay's 13th-minute strike was all Fatih required to guarantee their passage to the final at the Arslan Zeki Demirci Sports Complex.

Sebati was in action until the 68th minute of the match, while Madiba featured from the start to finish against Haydar Sahin's ladies.

The result means Fatih will feature in the final against the winner of the second semi-final between holders ALG Spor and Bekistas on May 5.

The Banyana Banyana duo will be seeking to help Fatih to maiden domestic title success in the final and also celebrate their back-to-back league title triumph in Turkey.

‘The Scudetto is home!’ – Fans celebrate Inter Milan's Serie A triumph

Antonio Conte’s men have claimed the Italian elite division crown after Atalanta stuttered against Sassuolo on Sunday

Football fans have taken to social media to celebrate Inter Milan’s first Serie A title in 11 years.

Antonio Conte’s team sealed the diadem as Atalanta played out a 1-1 draw against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium – a result which leaves the Milan outfit with an unassailable 13-point lead with four games left to play.

Inter knew they were on the brink of glory after securing a 2-0 away win against Simeon Nwankwo’s Crotone on Saturday evening.

Conte's side also boasts of the best defensive record in the division and the second-best attacking record behind Atalanta, while their +45 goal difference is currently superior to all of their rivals.

This triumph brought Juventus’ long-running era of dominance to an end and this has been a major talking point on Twitter.

Why Neymar didn't attend Pele's funeral

Downs took the lead in the 57th minute through a Nascimento penalty, Shalulile netted in the 76th minute and Lakay fired in an 80th minute free-kick

Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer was not too despondent after his side’s 3-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in a league match played at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Pirates had still been in with a chance of a result before two quick-fire goals wrapped it up for Sundowns with 15 minutes to play.

"They [Sundowns] have very good individual players, we know this. But this was also the conditioning aspect when you lose the ball easily," Zinnbauer told SuperSport TV after the match.

"It was not because of the structure that we lose the ball, it was more the concentration in the passing lines, from the passing what we want."

The likes of captain Happy Jele, talisman Thembinkosi Lorch, number one goalkeeper Richard Ofori and striker Zakhele Lepasa are just some of the Bucs players currently injured.

And at the end of a long season, as well as a trip this week to Nigeria to play Enyimba in the Caf Confederation Cup, Zinnbauer insinuated that fatigue could also have been an issue on Sunday.

"But we have to understand, we have so many injured players at the moment. We have a long, long travel in the last two days," he added.

"We have not one training session on the field. Yesterday a little bit, but you cannot train, you need the power for [Sunday's] game. Then you don't have the concentration and we have not a big squad at the moment, we cannot make a lot of changes in the last weeks.

"It's always the same players on the field, Sundowns have a little more and in such games you need such players - Happy Jele, Lorch, [Terrence] Dzvukamanja, they have experience in such games.

"You have then the chance to bring these players [from the bench] to have an impact, or you have them from the starting line-up."

In closing, the German reiterated that he was content with the performance, if not the score, against the Brazilians.

"With this performance, I have no fear in the next games," he concluded.

PL clubs spend £1.5bn to break transfer record

Astonishing scenes at Old Trafford saw the Premier League match with Liverpool postponed on Sunday afternoon

Manchester United’s match against Liverpool dominated the Premier League news agenda on Sunday – although not for the reason that such a derby typically does.

Prior to the encounter, which was subsequently postponed, hundreds of Man Utd fans protested against the ownership of the Glazers, who tried to push the club into a European Super League against the will of the supporters.

Inevitably, this has led to fans from the Old Trafford pitch to the other side of the world taking to social media to voice their opinions on the matter.

What has been said?

Not everyone is treating it so seriously, though

Uganda Cup: KCCA FC down Maroons FC, Police FC dim Bright Stars

The Premier League sides took wins in the first leg engagements as the domestic tournament heads to its peak

Kampala Capital City Authority FC picked up a 2-0 win over Maroons FC in a Uganda Cup Round of 16 first-leg tie on Wednesday at Luzira Prisons.

Herbert Achai and Hassan Jurua scored the goals that helped the Kasasiro Boys see off the Big League side away from home.

A combination between Sadat Anaku and Gift Ali almost broke the deadlock in favour of the Kasasiro Boys but the former's shot flew over the bar from close range in the 15th minute.

They, however, got the opener in the 14th minute when Achai found the back of the net after connecting with Hassan Jurua's cross.

Jurua and Achai combined well again in the 26th minute but the latter's header was saved by the Maroons' goalkeeper. Vincent Zziwa almost equalised for the home side but goalkeeper Charles Lukwago did well to deny his opponent with a goal-line clearance.

Morley Byekwaso made changes in the 65th minute when Anukani and Moses Aliro replaced Andrew Kigozi and Ali.

Jurua scored the second goal for the Premier League side in the 67th minute after they were awarded a penalty.

KCCA could have earned the third goal in the 80th minute but Anaku could not find the back of the net. Steven Sserwada beat his markers to lay the ball on Anaku's path who could not stretch the lead further from a good position.

Byekwaso made three changes when Juma Balinya - who has been out due to injuries - as well as Mazengo Loro and Keziron Kizito came on for Dennis Iguma, Sserwada and Achai in the 82nd minute.

KCCA would have picked up a bigger win had Pius Obuya scored from the penalty spot in the 90th minute.

Meanwhile, Police FC defeated Premier League rivals Bright Stars 4-1 to take the first-leg advantage at the Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

Ben Ocen scored in the second minute to put Police on the front foot before Joseph Janjali got the equaliser for the visitors in the 15th minute.

Yusuf Ssozi restored the lead for the Cops in the 23rd minute before Ocen's brace in the 35th minute extended the lead for Abdalla Mubiru's side.

Police's first change in the 51st minute saw Muwada Mawwejje leave as Mubarak Nsubuga came on. Thereafter Derrick Kakooza and Herman Wasswa replaced Brian Mululi and Frank Tumwesigya in the 72nd minute.

Kakooza scored the fourth goal for Police in the 75th minute after he connected with to delivery from Ocen. Mubiru made the last change in the 82nd minute when Duncan Ssenide came on for Ocen who had been very influential on the game.

Lewandowski brace leads Barca past Villarreal

The Millonario can take a big step towards the play-offs with victory on Sunday against the struggling hosts

Argentine football begins its program for 2021 with the playing of the Copa Liga Profesional.

All games are live streamed on Fanatiz and you can sign up to watch free here.

Boca was crowned 2019-20 league champions in March after coming out on top during the 23-game season, and also triumphed in the following Copa Diego Armando Maradona, which ended in January.

In lieu of beginning a new league season, the Argentine footballing authorities have instead sanctioned another cup competition, which will run from February to May.

The 26 Primera Division clubs have been split into two groups, with each side playing each other once.

In addition there will be one inter-zonal game every week, where Boca and River, Racing Club and Independiente and the rest of Argentina's Clasico rivals will face off in a series of clashes.

The top four teams from each group then advance to a play-off stage, which will take place in a straight knock-out format in order to yield a single winner.

Fanatiz has the rights to the Copa de la Liga Profesional worldwide, excluding Argentina, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Israel, Russia, Sweden and the Balkans.

How to watch Banfield vs River Plate

Banfield began the Copa in fine form after making the final of the preceding Copa Diego Maradona, with three wins in their opening six games.

Since then results have tanked, though, with the Taladro's fortunes not helped by seeing almost their entire team test positive for Covid-19 at the start of April.

They now need a win over River to keep their hopes of the play-offs alive.

River suffered a setback last week when they went down 2-1 to San Lorenzo.

Aside from that slip recent results have been positive, leaving them inside the play-off positions with just two games to play.

They have also made a good start to the Copa Libertadores, tying against Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro before downing Junior in their last match.

Aubameyang equals Sanchez’s Arsenal mark vs Newcastle United

The Gabon international was in fine form as the Gunners defeated the Magpies in Sunday’s English elite division outing

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has matched Alexis Sanchez’s Arsenal mark following his goal in the club’s 2-0 away defeat of Newcastle United on Sunday evening.

With his effort against the Magpies, the African striker has now scored in all three of his matches against Steve Bruce’s men in the 2020-21 season.

He is the first Arsenal player to score in three separate matches against an opponent in a single season since Sanchez versus Hull City in the 2014-15 campaign.

Additionally, the former Borussia Dortmund man has also scored in each of his last five appearances against Newcastle in all competitions, to become the first player from the North London side to score in five consecutive matches against the same team.

In the process, he is within touching distance of Olivier Giroud’s feat during his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Before joining Chelsea in 2018 for an undisclosed fee, the France international netted in six straight games against Aston Villa between 2013-2016.

Following back-to-back defeats against Everton and Villarreal, Mikel Arteta’s side travelled to St James' Park with the ambition of ending their poor results.

Five minutes into the game Mohamed Elneny put them ahead by volleying the ball into the bottom left corner of Martin Dubravka's net thanks to an assist from Aubameyang.

That was the Egypt international’s maiden effort in the English elite division since joining them from Swiss top-flight side Basel in 2016.

Interestingly, that was achieved in his 66th appearance for the 14-time FA Cup kings in the competition, with what was his 49th shot.

Of the 129 players to score for Arsenal in the Premier League, only five have had to wait longer for their first goal - Gael Clichy (110th appearance), Lee Dixon (95th appearance), Tony Adams (76th appearance), John Jensen (72nd appearance) and Emmanuel Eboue (71st appearance).

While Elneny was in action from start to finish against Bruce’s side, Aubameyang was substituted for Nicholas Pepe with 12 minutes left to play.

For Ghana’s Thomas Partey, he was introduced in place of Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard in the 85th minute.

This result moves the Gunners up to ninth on the table and they will now turn their attention back to the Europa League, as they welcome Villarreal in their semi-final second leg.

Newcastle United remain 17th, nine points above the relegation zone and they face Leicester City next time out.

A second European final beckons for the Nigerian following the Calatans' semi-final victory over the French giants

Asisat Oshoala was in action for Barcelona as they progressed to the final of the Uefa Women's Champions League, following a 2-1 semi-final, second leg triumph over Paris Saint Germain on Sunday.

The Nigeria international had featured in the 1-1 first-leg draw against the French giants a week ago, following her return from a month-long period on the sidelines due to a foot injury.

In Paris, Jenni Hermoso gave the visitors a 13th minute away lead but Marie-Antoinette Katoto levelled matters moments later to force a first leg stalemate at Stade Municipal Georges Lefevre.

In the reserve tie, Lluis Cortes' ladies knew a win will guarantee a second final in three consecutive attempts and Leila Ouahabi set up Lieke Martens to open the lead in the eighth minute.

Despite their slim lead, Barcelona maintained pouring attacks and found the back of the net when Martens doubled the lead with her brace off Caroline Graham Hansen's assist in the 31st minute.

PSG, however mounted pressure and eventually found a response when Marie-Antoinette Katoto pulled one back three minutes later.

After the break, the two sides created several chances, including through substitute Oshoala but could not add more as the hosts claimed a win at Ciudad Deportiva Real Madrid Campo.

The result means the Catalans are through to the final of the competition, where they will slug it out with the winner between English side Chelsea and German giants Bayern Munich on May 15.

Oshoala was in action for the final 11 minutes of the match after she came on as a 79th minute replacement for Aitana Bonmati.

On her debut season, the Nigerian had made history as she became the first African to score in the Champions League final and also the first for the Catalans in 2019, following a 4-1 defeat to Lyon.

This season, the Super Falcons star also achieved another historic feat when she netted Barcelona's 100th Champions League goal in their quarter-final win over Manchester City in Monsa.

With four Champions League goals this season so far, Oshoala will hope to celebrate her maiden European title later this month.

However, her immediate task will be to add to her 15 league goals tally for Barcelona to surpass her 20-goal mark last season.

Aribo shines as Rangers secure victory over rivals Celtic

The Nigeria international was on parade as the Gers triumphed over John Kennedy’s men at Ibrox Stadium

Joe Aribo featured prominently as Rangers secured a 4-1 victory over Celtic in Sunday’s Scottish Championship group game.

The 24-year-old has been delivering consistent performances for the Gers this season and at Ibrox Stadium, he was handed a chance to continue the fine showings.

The Nigeria international was afforded a starting role forming a three-man midfield along with Steven Davis and Glen Kamara.

The reigning champions started the game impressively, making several moves to try and get an early goal in the encounter.

Their efforts paid off when Kemar Roofe hit the back of the net in the 26th minute after receiving a fine assist from Ryan Kent.

Shortly after the opener, Celtic suffered a big blow when they were reduced to 10 men after Callum McGregor received his second yellow card and was subsequently sent off.

John Kennedy’s men made attempts to try and come back into the game, notwithstanding they were one-man short and leveled matters in the 30th minute through Odsonne Edouard after he was set up by Kristoffer Vassbakk Ajer.

Three minutes later, Alfredo Morelos handed Steven Gerrard’s men the lead from an assist from Glen Kamara.

Roofe then completed his brace in the 57th minute following a timely assist from Borna Barisic before substitute Jermain Defoe sealed the victory moments before the end of the game.

Aribo featured for the duration of the game, struck three shots, made one key pass, completed three dribbles and had 66 touches on the ball as part of his contribution in the encounter.

His compatriot and teammate Leon Balogun was not listed for the encounter, along with South Africa international Bongani Zungu.

Aribo has now made 42 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists, amid other dazzling displays.

The midfielder will hope to continue his fine performances when Rangers take on Livingston in their next league game on May 12.

Aribo has been with the Gers since the summer of 2019 when he teamed up with the club after leaving Charlton Athletic.
