'It was a crazy game' - England U21 boss Boothroyd laments historic Andorra draw

The Young Lions were pegged back by a last-minute goal to tie 3-3 against the tiny principality in their European qualifier

England Under-21 manager Aidy Boothroyd admitted that he was disappointed to drop points to minnows Andorra in an historic setback for the Young Lions on Wednesday.

Boothroyd's charges went into the game knowing that a win would seal their place in the UEFA U-21 Championships in 2021 after starting their qualifying campaign with six straight successes.

Andorra, meanwhile, languished bottom of the six-team group, having picked up just a single win over Turkey and a draw with Albania, but the clash proved far more uncomfortable for the visitors than anticipated, and Christian Garcia's late strike sealed a 3-3 tie for Andorra.

The Pyrenean principality's overall record at U-21 level now stands at two wins, eight draws and 47 defeat in 57 games, and Boothroyd was not happy with what he saw from his star-studded England line-up.

He said: “The result is a warning that we have to be bang on every time we play.

“It was a crazy game. Credit to our opponent. We expected to come here and win, but they were strong and direct and put men behind the ball. They were three poor goals to concede and the players are very down. We should have put it to bed. The pitch was a leveller.”

England can nevertheless seal qualification to next year's finals on Tuesday with victory over Turkey at Wolves' Molineux home, and there was some cheer at least for Eddie Nketiah, who equalled the U-21 goal record held by Alan Shearer and Francis Jeffers with his 13th strike in the age group against Andorra.

“Eddie is in esteemed company, isn't he. He took his goal really well, and a great pass from Eberechi Eze to play him in," Boothroyd said of the Arsenal youngster.

“I am really pleased with Eddie. He is the captain of the team when he plays, he is great off the pitch as well as off the pitch, and if he can emulate the guy he now shares the record with he'll have had a brilliant career at the end of it.

“It is just the beginning for him. Hopefully he can play regularly for his club and move on to bigger things with us.”

Aliko Dangote: The man who has been trying to buy Arsenal since 2011

The Alexandra-born player missed the team's final training session on Wednesday and the medical team is monitoring him

Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder Lebogang Manyama is racing against the clock to be fit for Thursday's match between Bafana Bafana and Namibia.

Manyama sat out Wednesday's training session due to lower back strain, the national team confirmed.

With this being Bafana Bafana's final training session, Manyama will have to undergo a late fitness test to determine if he will be fit for the encounter.

Manyama had been earmarked as the man to lead the Bafana attack by coach Molefi Ntseki.

This despite the former Cape Town City captain blossoming for Amakhosi this past season behind the strikers.

"In terms of how we want him [Manyama] to play, we’ve selected him as a striker. We will be working on him at training to prepare him for the position that we want him to play," said Ntseki after announcing his squad.

The 51-year-old mentor said while Manyama played as a striker before, his role upfront for Bafana Bafana would be different because of the opponents his team will be facing.

"He has played before as a striker but for the role that we are bringing him in is a different one. That’s why we have him as a striker even though people are saying he has done well as a midfielder for Chiefs," he added.

"We have more of a profile for him where he played as a striker and he did very well."

It is Ntseki who brought Manyama back into the Bafana setup for Afcon 2021 qualifying matches against Ghana and Sudan following his impressive performances at club level.

Prior to the call-up in November 2019, Manyama was last selected to represent his country in 2018.

His move from City to Turkey didn't do him a world of good in terms of cracking the nod for a spot in the Bafana Bafana squads.

However, his record of seven goals and nine assists in 32 matches across all competitions for the Glamour Boys this past season earned him yet another call-up to Ntseki's latest squad.

Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium: A 2022 World Cup venue with an Indian 'touch'

The former North West University student was unwilling to talk about the Soweto giants

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo has responded to reports linking him with new Premier Soccer League (PSL) club TS Galaxy.

The 29-year-old player is currently a free agent after being released by the Buccaneers earlier this week.

Mlambo is reportedly on the radar of Galaxy, who will be campaigning in the PSL during the 2020/21 season after purchasing Highlands Park's top-flight status.

A Sowetan source has revealed that the creative midfielder could reunite with his former coach, Dan Malesela, at Galaxy.

“The coach was told by the club not to say anything about the new signings until they are all unveiled sometime next week,” a source told the publication.

“The chairman will announce all the new signings as they are still busy finalising things at the moment.”

Malesela, who was re-appointed Galaxy head coach last month, coached Mlambo at Cape Town All Stars in the National First Division (NFD) and Chippa United in the PSL.

The Soweto-born player excelled under Malesela at Chippa and he was snapped up by Bidvest Wits prior to the start of the 2016/17 season.

Nicknamed Ten Ten, Mlambo helped the now-defunct Wits clinch the PSL title, Telkom Knockout Cup and MTN8, before moving to Pirates in June 2017.

When contacted by the same publication, Ten Ten was reluctant to comment with Pirates having terminated his contract by mutual consent.

“I don’t have anything to say for now. I don’t want to talk about the team [Pirates]. Can you please hold a bit to speak about me in the media, this is not the right time,” Mlambo said.

Mlambo was an influential player in his first two seasons with the Buccaneers under coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic.

The box-to-box midfielder also enjoyed game time under coach Rhulani Mokwena, who took over the reins after Micho's sudden departure in August 2019.

However, Mokwena was replaced by Josef Zinnbauer in December 2019 and Mlambo began struggling for game time.

The likes of Ben Motshwari, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Fortune Makaringe and Linda Mntambo were all preferred ahead of him and he has since parted ways with Pirates.

Video: Premier League prepares to welcome back fans - the managers' view

57' Campana goes for goal from the free-kick on the left flank, but he can only lift his effort straight into the gloves of Patricio.

55' OVER! Olmo has space 25 yards from goal and he goes for a strike, but he can only lift his effort harmlessly over the bar.

54' Dias has to act at the back to steer behind a long ball away from Canales in the box. The Manchester City defender is up to the speed of the game already after his arrival at half-time.

53' OFF THE BAR! Ronaldo creates space just inside the box and unleashes a powerful strike towards goal on his left foot. Kepa is beaten, but the ball cannons off the underside of the bar and bounces out. Sanches latches on the rebound, only to head over the bar.

52' Llorente tracks the run of Trincao, but he brings down the forward in the final third.

49' Portugal are able to clear their lines from the cross into the box with relative ease. It has been a slow start to the second half.

48' Canales goes down under a barge from Sanches, handing Spain a free-kick in a good position on the right flank.

46' We're back underway in this friendly game.

Spain will enter the break disappointed that they were not able to make efficient use of their possession. Both teams need to display a clinical edge in the second half to break the deadlock.

It's goalless at the break between Portugal and Spain in their friendly clash. La Roja were the better side for the majority of the first half, although the home team perhaps had the better chances before the interval. Gerard Moreno was denied by Rui Patricio in the early stages, while Daniel Olmo saw efforts from range saved. Raphael Guerreiro should have Portugal ahead, but he sliced his volley over the bar. Cristiano Ronaldo then missed a header in the closing seconds of the half.

45' HALF-TIME: PORTUGAL 0-0 SPAIN

45' CHANCE! Moutinho clips a free-kick into the box and Ronaldo beats the offside trap. He stoops to head towards goal, but can only direct his header wide of the left post.

43' MISS! Guerreiro should hit the target from 10 yards out. Sanches floats a cross to the back post where Ronaldo leaps to head across goal. Trincao nudges it back to Guerreiro to strike on the half-volley, but he slices his right-footed effort over the bar.

41' Sanches lifts a cross into the box and Reguilon tries to hammer a volley clear. It strikes Ronaldo on the arm, and although he is a yard away, the referee awards a free-kick to Spain.

39' Ronaldo runs at Llorente in the left inside channel, but the defender holds his ground to dispossess the veteran with relative ease before clearing the danger.

37' Gerard Moreno works the ball towards Olmo, who again finds space on the edge of the box. However, he sees his effort charged down by Pepe.

35' Cancelo tries to find room down the right flank to release Trincao, but the forward is caught offside. Portugal are not clicking in the final third.

33' Spain exchange a series of passes on the edge of the box before finally Canales pulls the trigger, but his tame effort is blocked by Neves.

31' Moutinho lines up another corner and sends his delivery to the back post, but Silva heads wide of the left post under pressure from Garcia. Pepe gives away a foul anyway for nudging Llorente.

30' Moutinho lifts a cross into the box that Ruben Semedo attacks. The ball deflects off the back of a Spain player and travels well wide of the target, although out for a corner.

29' Pepe gets forward down the right and he gets clattered by Reguilon and Garcia. Portugal win a free-kick down the right flank.

27' Busquets catches Neves with a glancing arm and the home side win a free-kick in their own half. Portugal need to stem the tide somehow.

26' OVER! Ronaldo tries to break into the left inside channel for the hosts, but he gets repelled. He works the ball back to Sanches, who lifts his effort harmessly over the bar.

25' SAVE! Olmo takes a touch in the left inside channel and gets half a yard on Cancelo to strike at goal. Patricio reads the danger and is able to catch the ball.

23' Portugal have been starved of possession midway through the first half. The red shirts have not been able to string a series of passes together.

21' Reguilon slides in to try and rob Pepe on the left flank, but he catches the defender on the ankle. A sore one for the veteran defender.

19' Sergi Roberto fires a low ball into the box from the right flank. Rodrigo Moreno stabs an effort towards goal that is blocked by Pepe, but Gerard Moreno pounces on the rebound. The forward shoots, only to see his effort blocked by Patricio.

17' SAVE! Rodrigo Moreno gathers on the right flank again. He has support, but cuts in and goes for the strike on his left foot. Patricio has to get down to his left to make the stop.

16' Silva tries to release Ronaldo behind the Spain backline, but the forward is well offside as he receives the ball.

14' Ronaldo has not been able to get into the game as of yet. Portugal have had a very quiet start to the game.

12' SAVE! Reguilon bursts down the left flank and slides a pass inside to Olmo. He takes the ball on his right foot before striking at goal, only to drill his attempt straight at Patricio.

11' WIDE! Sergi Roberto feeds Rodrigo Moreno down the right flank and he cuts inside with menace. The forward lines up a strike at goal from 20 yards on his left foot that he bends just wide of the left post.

9' Kepa collects an offload from Garcia, but sends his clearance straight into touch looking for Reguilon. Not the surest of starts from the Chelsea keeper.

8' Spain have made a bright start to the contest and have Portugal encamped inside their own half.

7' Olmo surges down the left flank and he fires a low ball across the face of goal. Guerreiro clears the danger in the six-yard box before Canales fires over on the rebound.

6' Olmo continues to be active in the early stages and he draws a foul from Cancelo down the left flank.

5' CLOSE! Ceballos slides a throughball into the right inside channel for Olmo on the charge. He blasts a low strike across the face of goal that no white shirt attacks at the back post, letting the hosts off the hook.

2' Busquets lines up a drive on the follow-up from Patricio's save, but he sends his effort well over the bar. A bright start from the visitors.

2' SAVE! Olmo works the ball into the path of Gerard Moreno in the box and he takes a touch past Ruben Semedo to close in on goal. He shoots from close range, but Patricio spreads himself to make the stop.

1' We're underway in this friendly clash.

There are eight changes for La Roja from their win over Ukraine last time out. Only Reguilon, Olmo and Gerard Moreno retain their spots. Kepa gets the start between the posts despite being dropped by Chelsea. Sergi Roberto, Llorente and Garcia slide into the back four. Busquets, Ceballos and Canales occupy a three-man midfield, allowing Rodrigo Moreno to join Olmo and Gerard Moreno up front.

Portugal have made six changes to their side that beat Sweden last time out. Patricio retakes his spot between the sticks from Anthony Lopes. Dias drops to the bench as Ruben Semedo gets the start in the back four. Nevas and Sanches partner Moutinho in the middle of the park. Silva and Trincao get the nod to start alongside Ronaldo in the final third.

SPAIN SUBS: David de Gea, Pau Torres, Mikel Merino, Adama Traore, Jose Gaya, Sergio Ramos, Rodri, Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Jose Campana, Jesus Navas, Unai Simon.

SPAIN (4-3-3): Kepa Arrizabalaga; Sergi Roberto, Diego Llorente, Eric Garcia, Sergio Reguilon; Dani Ceballos, Sergio Busquets, Sergio Canales; Rodrigo Moreno, Gerard Moreno, Dani Olmo.

PORTUGAL SUBS: Nelson Semedo, Ruben Dias, Bernado Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Lopes, Danilo Pereira, William Carvalho, Rafa, Nuno Sequeira, Diogo Jota, Rui Silva, Joao Felix.

PORTUGAL (4-3-3) Rui Patricio; Joao Cancelo, Pepe, Ruben Semedo, Raphael Guerreiro; Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Renato Sanches; Cristiano Ronaldo, Andre Silva, Trincao.

Spain earned a late draw in their clash with Germany courtesy of a stoppage-time Jose Gaya strike. Luis Enrique's side then put four past Ukraine in their last outing to prove that La Roja are slowly becoming a dominant force on the international scene once again. Getting one over on their closest rivals will be firmly on their agenda tonight to continue their recent resurgence.

The veteran remains close to the peak of his powers and he will be angling for further goals after reaching the 100 goals for Portugal in his last international outing. Fernando Santos' men defeated Croatia and Sweden in their two Nations League matches in the last round of international fixtures. They've won five matches on the bounce and Santos will be keen to take the scalp of Spain this evening.

Portugal and Spain last met at the 2018 World Cup when they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Cristiano Ronaldo put on a clinic for his side scoring a hat-trick to save them from defeat. Diego Costa and Nacho Fernandez had put La Roja on course for victory before Ronaldo's late act.

Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the friendly clash between Portugal and Spain at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

FKF revises Premier League fixtures as Gor Mahia vs Tusker match postponed

53' Turkey nearly complete the turnaround! Unal finds Under with a throughball and the substitute tests Leno from the centre of the box. Germany's keeper is equal to it.

51' Germany look a little stunned by that goal. It was a fantastic strike. Having worked so hard to go in front in the first half, Low's side must now look to do so again.

48' Chances for Germany! Seconds after Waldschmidt fires over, Brandt receives a pass from the hardworking Havertz and has a shot blocked by Yokuslu. Gunok had been dragged out so it would otherwise have gone in.

46' The second half gets started here in Cologne. There are no changes from Germany's side.

Turkey have Gunok to thank that they've limited Germany's lead to one goal. The İstanbul Basaksehir made four saves in that first half, even if most of them were from distance. He couldn't do anything to stop Draxler though. That's the difference between these two teams for now.

Germany go in at the break one goal to the good after Draxler puts the hosts in front on the brink of half-time. Germany are good value for their narrow lead as they've been the more enterprising side. Turkey do look threatening on occasion though.

45' + 1' HALF-TIME: GERMANY 1-0 TURKEY

45' Rudiger humps clear Kilinc's cross. Germany are back in possession but Schulz is offside from Neuhaus' forward pass. There'll be one minute of added time in this half.

43' The corner's straight into the arms of Gunok. That's disappointing for Germany who are starting to build up speed.

41' Great save by Gunok! The Turkey keeper keeps out Waldschmidt's shot from the edge of the box which is heading for the bottom left corner. It'll be a Germany corner.

39' Henrichs' ball in is booted away by Ayhan. Turkey are handling the pressure from Germany at the moment but they'd surely prefer a breather.

37' Germany go hunting again but it breaks down as tSchulz, the Borussia Dortmund left-back, playing wing-back here, is unable to keep Rudiger's pass in play.

35' Turkey are defending well at the moment. Henrichs is fouled by Kaldirim just as Germany are constructing their latest attack on goal.

33' Kaldirim concedes a corner for Germany, the first of the game. It's no sweat for Turkey's defenders who clear it.

31' Germany have had 67 per cent possession of the ball so far. Turkey look handy on the counter-attack though.

29' Germany's spell of pressure ends when Draxler accidentally catches Karaca in the face. Karaca wins another free-kick shortly after as he's brought down by Neuhaus. The Alanyaspor, winger's in the wars today.

27' There's a flurry of chances for Germany! Gunok dives low to keep out Brandt's fizzed shot from range and Neuhaus' follow-up flashes harmlessly across goal. Germany are starting to assert themselves now.

25' Yazici sends the free-kick into the box from near the halfway line. Germany deal with it without much fuss as Leno catches Tufan's snap shot.

23' Another free-kick goes Turkey's way as Draxler goes in with a high foot on Yokuslu's shin. Germany's tackling hasn't been great so far.

21' Germany toy with Turkey just outside their box. The hosts look confident and full of ideas. Henrichs' cross causes some confusion among Turkey's defenders and Schulz takes a touch before smacking a volley into the side netting.

19' Yazici tries a dipping first-time effort from 25 yards out when a throw-in lands to him. There's not really enough power on it to threaten Leno who claims it comfortably.

17' It's all a little scrappy at the moment. Rudiger slides in on Karaca when the ball's already gone. The defender's going to see a card of some kind.

15' Karaca is caught offside from Gunok's direct ball from the back. Shortly after, Gunok stops Neuhaus' routine effort from the edge of the box. Not a bad way for Germany's rookie midfielder to get himself noticed.

13' Yazici finds some space in the box after a promising dart forward by Turkey. The Lille midfielder takes a shot but it's well over the bar.

11' Rudiger gives away a free-kick as he fouls Karaca just to the right of Germany's box. Yazici sends the ball in and Karaca smacks it on the half-volley. It ricochets off a Germany defender and the hosts clear.

9' Waldschmidt. the new Benfica striker, goes on a run forward but is blocked before he can create a chance of note.

7' Germany have made a decent start to the game. They get a free-kick down their right as Tufan clips Havertz. Turkey deal with it without much difficulty.

5' Germany have the ball in the net but it's offside. Waldschmidt's shot from Henrichs' cross is blocked by the outstretched leg of Gunok and it rolls to Draxler who slots home. Draxler is the offender on this occasion.

3' The two sides ease into the game. Germany in particular are getting a feel for the ball early on.

1' And we're underway!

1' f

The two sides are out on the pitch in Cologne. Germany will play in their home kit of white shirts and black shorts. Turkey will play in their all-red away strip.

There isn't anything at stake here for either side, of course, but there's a chance here for a few players to make a good impression. It'll be interesting to see if any players on display can force their way into their coach's thinking.

Germany make eight changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Switzerland last time out. Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Neuhaus makes his senior debut for his country. There are seven different players in Turkey's starting 11 from the team that drew 0-0 with Serbia in September.

SUBS: Orkun Kokcu, Ozan Kabak, Mahmut Tekdemir, Dorukhan Tokoz, Umut Meras, Ugurcan Cakir, Cengiz Under, Kenan Karaman, Mert Muldur, Abdulkadir Omur, Ahmed Kutucu, Gokhan Akkan.

TURKEY (4-2-3-1): Fehmi Mert Gunok; Nazim Sangare, Merih Demiral, Kaan Ayhan, Hasan Ali Kaldirim; Okay Yokuslu, Ozan Tufan (c); Efecan Karaca, Yusuf Yazici, Emre Kilinc; Enes Unal.

SUBS:Robin Gosens, Niklas Stark, Lukas Klostermann,  Jonathan Tah, Mahmoud Dahoud, Matthias Ginter, Jonas Hofmann, Nadiem Amiri, Kevin Trapp.

GERMANY (3-1-4-2): Bernd Leno; Emre Can, Robin Koch, Antonio Rudiger; Florian Neuhaus; Benjamin Henrichs, Julian Draxler (c), Kai Havertz, Nico Schulz; Gian-Luca Waldschmidt, Julian Brandt.

Joachim Low's Germany enter this game on the back of two consecutive 1-1 draws with Spain and Switzerland in Group A4, while Turkey got a bore 0-0 draw in Serbia last time out. Both teams will be looking to experiment here as they bid to improve their recent fortunes.

Germany and Turkey's preparations for their next round of UEFA Nations League fixtures continues here in a friendly meeting of two international teams who have yet to get a win in 2020.

Hello! Welcome to our live text commentary of this international friendly match between Germany and Turkey at RheinEnergieStadion, Cologne.

North Macedonia stun Germany with late winner

54' Berghuis and Hateboer attempt a smart one-two down the right flank, but Berghuis overpowers the return pass and it dribbles agonisingly away for a goal kick.

52' Pizarro jinks his way towards the byline before lashing a venomous delivery across the face of goal, but it evades all the onrushing Mexican attackers and the hosts clear.

50' The hosts settle into the half comfortably with a long, patient spell of possession knocking it around their refreshed back four.

48' Mexico will be disappointed with their profligacy in front of goal in that first period. The away side produced three dangerous shots inside the box in the opening 45 minutes but failed to hit the target with a single one of them.

46' Mexico get the second half underway.

As it's a friendly, you'd imagine there'll be a glut of substitutions as the second half progresses with both teams experimenting ahead of important games.

The sides head into the interval at 0-0 after an entertaining first half. Both teams showed plenty of attacking intent throughout, but it will be Mexico wondering how they aren't ahead with Jimenez twice missing the target when left unmarked inside the box. The hosts, meanwhile, enjoyed a brief spell of pressure around the half-hour mark, but Berghuis failed to convert when through on goal.

45' + 1' HALF TIME: Netherlands 0-0 Mexico

44' The Netherlands win a free-kick 40 yards from goal near the left-wing and they push defenders upfield to try and take advantage. Inexplicably, though, Berghuis and Depay work a chaotic routine that results in the former passing to himself from the set-piece providing Mexico with a free-kick of their own!

42' Jimenez deftly controls a high ball, before laying it off carefully to Guardado who lashes a shot wildly over the bar from 20 yards.

40' Gallardo charges ambitiously up the pitch from right-back before hitting a neat pass into the feet of Pizarro, but the attacker can't quite create enough space for a shot and the hosts clear.

38' Corona shimmies past Hateboer before dinking a cross towards the back-post where Moreno can't quite contort himself to acrobatically volley it at goal.

36' Jimenez goes close again! Pizarro twists past a number of challenges inside the box and draws a number of defenders into his orbit, before releasing a neat pass to an unmarked Jimenez who powers a low shot just wide of the far post from 12 yards!

34' Depay has been at the heart of the hosts' resurgence in this half: the striker has amassed two key passes and two shots while providing the Netherlands with much-needed attacking momentum.

32' Mexico attempt a rare foray forward as Guardado looks for the run of Pizarro, but De Vrij races across to intercept the throughball and clear.

30' After a nervous start, the Netherlands have settled into this game. Depay is beginning to frequently pick up dangerous positions and his teammates have responded by pushing forward to surround him and pin Mexico back.

28' The hosts win another free-kick in a dangerous area - this time it's out on the right-wing near the touchline. However, Berghuis' eventual delivery is miscued and Talavera strolls out to claim it under no pressure.

26' Babel continues his lively five minutes by latching onto a clever, cushioned header from Depay before screwing his shot well wide from 20 yards.

24' Babel darts dangerously towards the box, but Herrera steps in expertly to cleanly dispossess the attacker just as the Mexico defence was getting nervous.

22' Babel wins a dangerous free-kick for the hosts 25 yards from goal in a central location, and Depay steps up to hit a fierce shot that clips off the wall and away for a corner that amounts to nothing.

20' Strong save from Talavera! Depay finds a pocket of space 25 yards from goal and he uses it to slip Berghuis in behind the defence with an incisive reverse pass! However, Berghuis' first touch forces him wide and his eventual shot from a tight angle is beaten confidently away by Talavera.

18' The hosts have really struggled to adapt to Mexico's high press so far and it's resulted in a number of mistakes that have led to clear chances for the away side.

16' Corona misses another chance for Mexico! This time it's Krul's turn to cheaply surrender possession as he clears it to Guardado who slips a pass into the path of Corona, who jinks inside Wijndal before drilling a low effort inches wide of the near post from 12 yards!

14' Jimenez wastes a huge chance! Pizarro robs Hateboer on the edge of the area after pressing high up the pitch and he immediately rolls it into the path of Jimenez who proceeds to hit a side-footed effort inches wide unmarked from eight yards! If that was on target Krul would have stood no chance!

12' Corona is down clutching his face after colliding with De Vrij, but after a brief delay for treatment, it looks as though he'll be okay to continue.

10' Mexico have dominated so far: they've moved possession urgently into dangerous areas and on a number of occasions Corona has almost managed to engineer the space to create chances.

8' Corona beats Wijndal with a deft feint before attempting to pick out the run of Jimenez into the box, but Van Dijk anticipates the cross and steps in to clear.

6' Pizarro wins a throw-in deep inside the Netherlands half after some neat play down the left flank, but by the time the set-piece is taken the hosts' defence is well set and they clear again.

4' Corona delightfully skips past Wijndal near the right touchline but he's lacking in support and he opts to turn and pass it back into the Mexico defence.

2' Mexico start with a burst of intensity as Jimenez charges through the heart of the pitch, but Wijnaldum tracks back diligently to poke it away from the attacker.

1' The Netherlands get the first half underway.

The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick off is just seconds away!

De Boer’s next three fixtures will be difficult to navigate. They take on Bosnia away from home, before having to deal with Italy and Spain – a win today could be vital to build confidence ahead of this run.

Mexico, meanwhile, make wholesale changes to the side that beat Guatemala last time out. At that point they had no European-based players available, but today talismanic striker Raul Jimenez returns up top.

The Netherlands make six changes to the side that lost to Italy during the last international break. Most notably, Frenkie De Jong drops out of the midfield, enabling Koopmeiners to make his international debut.

SUBS: Rodolfo Cota, Nestor Araujo, Gerardo Arteaga, Luis Romo, Jorge Sanchez, Gilberto Sepulveda, Jonathan Dos Santos, Omar Govea, Diego Lainez, Orbelin Pineda, Henry Martin, Alan Pulido.

MEXICO: Alfredo Talavera; Jesus Gallardo, Edson Alvarez, Cesar Montes, Luis Rodriguez; Hector Moreno, Andres Guardado, Hector Herrera; Rodolfo Pizarro, Raul Jimenez, Jesus Corona.

NETHERLANDS: Tim Krul; Hans Hateboer, Stefan De Vrij, Virgil Van Dijk, Owen Wijndal; Georginio Wijnaldum, Donny Van De Beek, Teun Koopmeiners; Steven Berghuis, Memphis Depay, Ryan Babel.

Meanwhile, this is a rare opportunity for Mexico to measure themselves against world-class opposition after a run of six straight victories since losing to Argentina a year ago.

Hello and welcome to live commentary of this international friendly between Netherlands and Mexico. While this game doesn’t initially seem to have much riding on it, there is actually plenty of importance for the hosts. New manager, Frank de Boer takes charge of his first game today after replacing Ronald Koeman who left for Barcelona recently – and, naturally, he’ll be desperate to kick off with victory.

Late Maguire strike fires England past Poland

53' Moldova are now without a clean sheet in the last 11 international games. Their last clean sheet came in a 1-0 win against Andorra.

51' CHANCE! Good opportunity for Moldova to pull one back as the visitors manage to break into the final third and Cociuc squares the ball back across goal to Rata, who tries to fire the ball towards goal, but Cristante gets in the way and blocks the effort.

48' Italy win a couple of corners at the start of the second half, but Moldova manage to defend them well and clear the danger.

46' The second half is under way!

It will be interesting to see if Italy continue to play with the same high press and intensity in the second half, they will want to score a few more goals and gain even more confidence ahead of the Nations League games in a few days time.

Italy hold a comfortable 5-0 lead over Moldova at the break after first half goals from Cristante, Caputo, two from El Shawaary and an own goal. Moldova started the game well and had the best chance to open the scoring early on, but Sirigu denied Nicolaescu. However, it then didn't take Italy long to find their groove and they then looked like scoring every time they played the ball in behind, as they went on to put five past Moldova in the opening half.

45' + 2' HALF-TIME: ITALY 5-0 MOLDOVA

45' There will be a minimum of one minute added time played at the end of the first half.

43' Mancini will be very happy with his sides performance in their first half, will they be able to keep it up and score a few more in the second half?

41' Late push towards goal here by Moldova, they have managed to keep hold of the ball and work their way up the pitch, but their end product is poor and Sirigu in the Italy goal comfortably gathers.

39' There's not long left to play at the Artemio Franchi Stadium before the end of the first half now, will we see any more goals before the half-time whistle?

36' BLOCKED! Italy manage to get in behind once again, this time with Lazzari down the right wing and he pulls the ball back to Bonaventura on the edge of the box, but his shot is well blocked

34' Italy are unbeaten in their last 16 games, a run that started with a 1-1 draw against Ukraine in October 2018.

32' We're past the half an hour mark now and it's Italy who lead 3-0 in Florence and it has been a dominant performance by the hosts. Moldova are struggling to get a touch on the ball at the moment.

28' It looks like Moldova are about to make their first change of the game here, perhaps an injury picked up, or just a tactical change as the visitors have struggled to get onto the ball in the last 10 minutes or so.

26' Almost! Berardi goes so close to getting on the end of a chipped ball into the penalty area, it was just too high for the winger and Koselev came off his line and gathered.

25' It's going to be very difficult for Moldova to get back into the game now, they are dropping deeper and deeper into their own half, soaking up the pressure.

23' GOOOAAALLL! Italy double their lead it's 2-0! Biraghi plays a superb ball between the lines in the Moldova defence and Caputo races onto it, completely unmarked and he then provides a composed finish and he slots it past Koselev.

20' It's all Italy now, they are pressing forward in search of a second goal to double their lead just moments after going ahead in the first half.

18' CHANCE! Great save by Koselev to deny El Shaarawy after he raced through on goal, just beating the offside trap and he tries to chip the ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. However, the keeper makes himself very big and sticks out a strong arm to turn the ball out of play for a corner.

17' Bonaventura goes for goal with a wild strike from around 30 yards out, however, his strike is poor and the ball flies well over the Moldova crossbar.

15' Moldova will be happy with their start so far, they have stopped Italy from creating any chances so far and they have had the best opportunity of the game so far.

13' The last time these two sides faced each other was in October 2005 during qualification for the 2006 World Cup and Italy won both games, 2-1 at home and 1-0 in Moldova.

11' Italy are dominating the possession charts, but Moldova are playing a good high pressing game and it is keeping the Italians out of the danger zone, whilst also looking threatening on the break.

9' Both teams have important Nations League games following this match and it will be a vital warm-up match ahead of the competitive fixtures.

7' CHANCE! Moldova with the first opportunity of the game as Nicolaescu forces Sirigu into making an excellent save to deny him in the opening goal. Rata plays a lovely ball in behind the Italy defence and Nicolaescu beats his marker and tries to fire the ball into the far corner of the net. However, Sirigu does well to get a hand to it and palm it away to safety.

5' Moldova win the first corner of the game, after a lovely quick counter, however, the ball is played to the edge of the penalty area to Platica, who drills his shot well wide of the Italy goal.

2' Italy have started on the front foot as expected here, they are pressed the visitors high straight from the kick-off and forced the error which handed them possession.

1' We're under way!

The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all of the match action!

Moldova have made just four changes to their starting XI, with Mudrac, Reabciuk, Caimacov and Vitalie Damascan all dropping out of the team and they have been replaced by Craciun, Marandici, Suvorov and Nicolaescu.

Italy have changed their entire starting line-up to the side that beat the Netherlands last month, with Roberto Mancini opting to give some new players a chance in the team. Sirigu replaces Donnaumma in goal and Caputo is given the leading role up front, whilst El Shaarawy captains the Azzurri.

MOLDOVA SUBS: Petru Racu, Nicolai Cebotari, Eugeniu Cociuc, Victor Mudrac, Stanislav Namasco, Oleg Reabciuk, Alexandru Epureanu, Dinu Graur, Nicolae Milinceanu, Mihail Caimacov.

MOLDOVA (3-5-1-1): Alexei Koselev; Veaceslav Posmac, Artur Craciun, Igor Armas; Sergiu Platica, Vadim Rata, Catalin Carp, Artur Ionita, Denis Marandici; Alexandru Suvorov, Ion Nicolaescu.

ITALY SUBS: Jorginho, Emerson, Vincenzo Grifo, Riccardo Orsolini, Danilo D'Ambrosio, Angelo Ogbonna, Moise Keane, Marco Silvestri, Stefano Sensi, Kevin Lasagna, Alessandro Florenzi, Alessio Cragno.

ITALY (4-3-3): Salvatore Sirigu; Manuel Lazzari, Gianluca Mancini, Francesco Acerbi, Cristiano Biraghi; Manuel Locatelli, Bryan Crisante, Giacomo Bonaventura; Domenico Berardi, Francesco Caputo, Stephan El Shaarawy.

Meanwhile Moldova have contrasting fortunes, they are without a victory in over a year and their previous fixture against Slovenia ended in a 1-0 defeat, which leaves them bottom of their Nations League group.

Italy are unbeaten in two years at international level, with their last defeat coming against Portugal in the previous edition of the Nations League. They beat the Netherlands 1-0 last time out to sit top in their group.

Manula tips Simba SC to eliminate FC Platinum from Caf Champions League

The Chelsea pair and Dortmund's young star attended a surprise birthday party for the striker, flouting social distancing laws

Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho will not play any part in England's friendly with Wales on Thursday after breaking coronavirus protocol, confirmed Gareth Southgate.

The trio were pictured attending Abraham's 23rd birthday party on Sunday evening, which with a reported 20 guests exceeded the laws on social gatherings during the pandemic.

Chelsea star Abraham later apologised for the breach, stating that it was a surprise party he had no knowledge of but that he "deeply regrets" his "naivety".

Sancho also regretted his actions, explaining via an Instagram post that "I would like to apologise for breaking the government guidelines and although I was unaware upon arriving of the numbers attending, I take full responsibility for my actions. I will make sure moving forward that I learn from this."

Southgate, who left Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden out of this latest squad after the pair also broke Covid rules during the last international window, accepts their contrition, but will not use any of the three in England's latest outing while they may also be excluded for Sunday's Nations League meeting with Belgium

"I think the players have already accepted they were in the wrong," he said. "They had broken those lockdown guidelines that were there. I have to be careful being on my moral high-horse when we aren't in camp with the team.

"We do have an issue with the Covid guidelines and making sure any players that comes in is as lower risk as possible. We are having to monitor the players, they are being tested today and tomorrow, we have to check for further symptoms. They obviously miss the game v Wales."

Southgate went on to clarify he took no offence from Jose Mourinho's slip, calling him 'Gary' on more than one occasion during a recent Tottenham press conference.

"I have to say that he messaged me anyway to apologise," said Southgate. "I knew because he has called me Gary before, in a news conference. I had no issue with that at all - I said there is only one Gareth (Bale) he needs to get right and he will score all the goals for him this year.

"In terms of the players, we have to look after all the players. I have been a player and I didn't like it when managers took a risk with me but they never did. We don't want players missing any football - I'm not prepared to risk players' welfare."

Wenger would return to Arsenal 'if needed' but does not 'expect' Gunners comeback

The Super Eagles have again missed out on appearing in the latest edition of the popular EA Sports franchise

FIFA 21 will released this week, and while gamers will be able to play as all of the world’s biggest clubs, they won’t be able to take control of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The West African are one of the many African nations who have been neglected on the game, as while FIFA offers fans the prospect of playing with a range of international teams, Caf only receives meagre representation.

Of the countries available on the game, there will be some African teams included, with the likes of Egypt, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire and South Africa all playable on the game.

It’s great news for fans of these nations, but too many supporters of Africa’s national teams are set to be left disappointed.

This has nothing to do—as some have suggested—with the teams’ standing in the world game.

None of the six top-ranked African teams in the Fifa World Rankings have been included in the video game, this is a list that includes Senegal (20th), Tunisia (26th), Nigeria (29th), Algeria (35th), Morocco (43rd) and Ghana (46th).

Egypt—currently ranked 51st in the world—are the top African team who are playable, which will come as a bitter blow of fans of those clubs at the pinnacle of the standings currently.

Some have speculated that Nigeria aren’t present on the game because EA Sports don’t have the licence to use the Super Eagles, but this isn’t entirely accurate.

While they may not have access to use the rights of the national side, that alone doesn’t prevent them from including the West African giants in the game.

This year—as has been well publicised—EA Sports have the rights to use neither Portugal nor Italy in this year’s game, but both have been included without their official federation logos anyway.

Even club sides Juventus and Roma, neither of whom gave EA Sports permission to use their official branding, have been included, albeit with unofficial, alternative names.

Super Eagles fans will surely be disappointed to learn that even South African giants and PSL heavyweights Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have been included on the game, while they have been overlooked.

The last time Nigeria were available on a FIFA game was FIFA 2008, and it’s too long for fans in Nigeria and the many Super Eagles fans of Nigerian origin around the world.

Look at the way that Nike are cherishing and relishing their relationship with the Nigeria national team—and the commercial success that partnership has led to.

Why can FIFA not see the value of including the Super Eagles in the latest edition of the franchise, and ensure that Nigerian gamers around the world can play with their heroes in the West African giants’ famous green?

'It is not good enough' - Arteta desperate to revive Arsenal's fading fortunes

Looking at the two benches, it's hard to imagine Ukraine's night is going to get any easier as the night goes on...

It's been a simple night's work for France so far. Ukraine started well enough but found themselves on the back foot when debutant Camavinga hooked a gorgeous overhead kick into the top corner, and it's been all France since then. Giroud fired in a rocket from the edge of the area before heading in a simple second on his 100th appearance for his country. It looked as though he had a hat-trick from a corner shortly after, but his marker Mykolenko had instead turned into his own net.

45' + 2' HALF-TIME: FRANCE 4-0 UKRAINE

45' + 1' One minute of stoppage time.

45' Oof! For a second it looks as though Aouar has scored an absolute worldie. Pavard fires a cross past the far post and Aouar hits it, almost Zidane-like, on the volley with a high left foot. He connects well but his shot fizzes into the side netting.

43' Another good save from Mandanda! Malinovskyi hits a low, left-footed effort from range after coming in from the right. It's hit hard and it swerves away from Mandanda in the air, but he reacts well and stretches out a foot as he dives the other way.

41' Shaparenko gets Ukraine's first shot on target with a free-kick. It's a long way out and out wide on the right, but he fires a powerful effort through a crowd of players and Mandanda does pretty well to keep it out.

38' Good save Bushchan! Digne has been a constant threat down the left tonight and he finds himself in space again, firing in a low cross to Martial. The Manchester United forward controls it and hits a snapshot at goal, but the keeper reacts sharply to turn it behind.

38' Pavard heads Digne's cross across goal from the right and Aouar looks to steal in behind and turn it in, but Bushchan sees him coming and takes the catch.

36' And just like that, a Ukraine shot appears! It's a difficult chance for Malinovskyi as he swipes first-time at a bobbling cross from the left. He can't keep his left-footed shot down, and Mandanda watches it over.

35' With 35 minutes played, France have had 12 shots, and seven on target. Ukraine have had zero.

33' A deflected pass almost spins in behind for Zubkov, but Upamecano snuffs out the danger, holding off his opponent and clearing for a throw-in.

31' A corner from the right falls to Lenglet. He can't control his shot as smoothly as Tolisso, and is spins over.

30' That should be 3-0! A deep corner from the left finds Tolisso in space on the other side of the area. He controls it well and hits a sharp half-volley, but Bushchan is able to tip it over. Great save.

29' Aouar delivers a decent free-kick in from the right touchline, but Lenglet has to bend too far down and he can't control his header, which goes well over. Given his head was at about knee height when he made contact, he might have been better off going for a volley.

27' Yarmolenko is caught offside as he looks to break in behind, but Mandanda had come out and beaten him to the ball anyway.

25' Giroud is making his 100th appearance for France tonight, and that's his 41st goal. A wonderful way to cap the occasion.

23' Camavinga tries his luck! Pavard pulls off a beautiful backheeled flick to keep a high cross alive, spinning the ball back to Camavinga at the edge of the area. He hits it first time but it fizzes over the bar.

21' Mandanda comes out to claim a cross from the right and while he does take a clean catch, he cleans Makarenko out in the process. It looks like a heavy blow but he's back up and running after a moment.

20' This has felt very much like an international friendly so far. Not a lot of bite in it.

18' Yarmolenko comes infield from the right, looking as though he wants to find room to shoot but instead lifting a clever ball over the line of defence for Malinovskyi. The Atalanta star can't control it though, and it bobbles through to Mandanda.

17' Ukraine started the game pretty confidently, seeing all of the ball in the opening five minutes. It's looking like a long night for them now - they're camped in their own half and not really threatening on the break.

15' Aouar bends a right-footed shot towards the far post from the left side of the area, but Bushchan watches it bounce wide.

14' Martial pulls a decent save from Bushchan. He wins the ball high up the pitch and drives into the area before hitting a powerful left-footed shot towards the near post. The angle is very tight and the keeper rightly saves it, but it was well-struck.

12' Not many fans have been allowed into the Stade de France tonight, but there's a good little round of Allez Allez Allez going round at the minute. It's nice to hear football fans singing again.

11' Camavinga had only scored two goals in his senior career before tonight, but he's picked out a beauty less than 10 minutes into his international debut.

8' The corner is only half cleared at first and Upamecano almost finds space to shoot, but he's crowded out and eventually the ball is scrambled away.

7' Pavard crosses from the right, and Tolisso does well to win a corner as he stops it flying straight into the side-netting.

6' First chance of the game! France put together a patient move through the centre which eventually finds Digne in space to the left of the area. He measures a cross to his fellow full-back Pavard at the back post, but he side-foots an awkward first-time effort over the bar.

5' France have their first real spell of possession in the match. They fizz the ball about smoothly in the Ukraine half, Camavinga and Aouar getting their first real touches, but it doesn't come to anything.

4' Makarenko pops up in space on the left and puts in a low cross, but it's a hurried effort and it goes straight to Mandanda. He had more time than he realised there.

3' Ukraine have had all of the ball in the opening couple of minutes, but they haven't done anything with it.

2' Zubkov is fouled by Camavinga by the touchline on the Ukraine left. The youngster looks eager to make his mark on this game already.

1' We're off and running!

The teams are on their way out onto the pitch. We'll have the national anthems, and then we'll be ready to go.

These sides have only played two games each in 2020, after Covid-19 disrupted the international football calendar. France edged past Sweden 1-0 before beating Croatia 4-2 in a repeat of the 2018 World Cup final, while Ukraine beat Switzerland 2-1 before being thrashed 4-0 in Spain.

Rennes sensation Camavinga makes his senior international debut at just 17 years old, as does the 22-year-old Aouar. Ukraine goalkeeper Bushchan is also making his debut as Shevchenko looks to find a successor to the veteran stopper Andriy Pyatov. Ukraine were left short of goalkeeping options due to Covid-19, so 45-year-old Shovkovskiy - who retired in 2016 - makes the bench.

SUBS: Olexandr Shovkovskiy, Eduard Sobol, Igor Plastun, Serhiy Sydorchuk, Roman Yaremchuk, Viktor Tsygankov, Volodymyr Shepeliev, Roman Bezus, Oleksandr Karavaev, Yevgen Cheberko.

UKRAINE (4-2-3-1): Georgiy Bushchan; Bogdan Mykhaylichenko, Vitaliy Mykolenko, Illia Zabarnyi, Yukhym Konoplia; Ihor Khatarin, Yevhen Makarenko; Oleksandr Zubkov, Andriy Yarmolenko, Ruslan Malinovskyi; Mykola Shaparenko.

SUBS: Hugo Lloris, Mike Maignan, Presnel Kimpembe, Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe, Kingsley Coman, N’Golo Kante, Lucas Hernandez, Wissam Ben Yedder.

FRANCE (4-4-2): Steve Mandanda; Lucas Digne, Clement Lenglet, Dayot Upamecano, Benjamin Pavard; Houssem Aouar, Steven Nzonzi, Corentin Tolisso; Anthony Martial, Olivier Giroud.

Didier Deschamps’ world champions will be looking to find their rhythm ahead of their upcoming Nations League matches with Portugal and Croatia. Ukraine, now managed by legendary forward Andriy Shevchenko, have two daunting fixtures of their own coming up as they play Germany and Spain.

Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of this international friendly match, as France host Ukraine at the Stade de France in Paris.

McKinstry furious at Mamelodi Sundowns as Onyango misses Uganda camp

The keeper was among the 26 players named in the squad for the nine-day training camp during the Fifa break

Uganda coach Jonathan McKinstry has hit out at Mamelodi Sundowns after the club reportedly refused to grant keeper Denis Onyango a chance to train with the national team in Dubai.

The skipper was among the players named in the squad for the nine-day training camp in Dubai but according to McKinstry, he was denied the chance to link up with the rest of the squad by the South African champions.

A statement published on the Federation of Uganda Football Association (Fufa) official website has stated: "Uganda coach Jonathan McKinstry is disappointed captain Dennis Onyango will not be part of the team’s training camp in Dubai.

“The captain was stopped from joining the rest of the team in camp with his club Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa citing several reasons.”

McKinstry has also issued a separate statement showing his frustration at the decision by Sundowns to deny the player the chance to train with the Cranes.

“We are very disappointed in Mamelodi Sundowns' position regarding not releasing Denis Onyango for international duty during the October 2020 Fifa dates," explained McKinstry.

“Whilst they have released other team members for international duty for their respective nations; they communicated to us on Monday of this week [two weeks after receiving notification of invitation for the player] they wished to keep Denis Onyango with them on the basis that he would have to quarantine upon return to South Africa.

“As a national team, we have been clear we would not call players to this camp who would have to quarantine on return to their respective clubs. [Eg. Players based in Israel and USA].

“We asked Sundowns for evidence of the regulation regarding quarantine, and they were only able to provide information regarding tourists arriving in South Africa, and not residents as is the case for Onyango.

“Upon further checking on our side, the SA Government position would appear clear regarding any potential quarantine in that: Exceptions exist for business travellers with rare and critical skills, diplomats, investors, repatriated individuals, and professional athletes.”

The statement continued: “Despite all of this, and direct dialogue between myself [Head Coach], our national team's officer and staff from Sundowns, their position has remained the same.

“At this point, we must continue on with the camp so we maximise the benefit to all other members of the team.

“We would like to state however that Denis Onyango has always been eager to join us in Dubai and we feel he has been put in a very difficult position by his employers. As such we attach no blame in this situation to the player who remains a key part of our plans for Afcon 2022 and World Cup 2022 qualification.

“Mamelodi Sundowns are one of the leading clubs in Africa, and this situation, in our opinion differs greatly from the levels of professionalism we have come to expect from them over the years.”

Derrick Nsibambi, who turns out for Smouha FC in Egypt, is another foreign player who missed the training camp in Dubai.

Partey’s father confident Arsenal will qualify for Champions League

The Ghanaian midfielder’s arrival is expected to bolster the Gunners chances of returning to Europe’s elite competition

Jacob Partey, the father of new Arsenal midfielder Thomas, is full of confidence that his son’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium will bring Champions League football next season.

The Ghana international was a transfer deadline day signing from Atletico Madrid after his £45 million release clause was activated.

His addition is seen as a big plus for Arsenal, who have improved under Mikel Arteta’s watch, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield in the space of a month.

Partey’s inclusion will be vital to Arsenal’s chances of sealing a Champions League berth that is looking to be a seven-horse race this term. The North Londoners last competed in the elite tournament during the 2016-17 season.

Partey has had lots of experience in the Champions League, playing 40 times, which stretches back to the 2015-16 season when Atleti reached the final but lost out to city rivals Real Madrid.

One of his most memorable displays came in last season’s Round of 16 second leg tie with Liverpool at Anfield which the Spanish side won 3-2 and 4-2 aggregate.

“Champions League has been one of the arguments with regards to Partey’s move to Arsenal but then having helped Atletico Madrid to book qualification in the competition over the years, I’m sure he can help Arsenal to do same,” Partey Snr. told Bryt FM.

“I wasn’t keen about Partey playing in the Champions League because he must work hard and make history with his new club. I’m looking forward to seeing him and his club qualifying to the 2021-22 Champions League competition."

Partey Snr. also believes his son has the strength to adapt to the physical demands of playing in the Premier League. He is also eager to see his son pull on the Arsenal shirt and is pleading for Ghanaians to throw their support behind the country’s vice-captain.

“In fact, my son’s move to Arsenal is the best. Players at some point in time move to different clubs. At this point, my son will play with his heart for the club to succeed,” he continued.

“I have heard the debate that the aggressiveness in the Premier League is much higher than that of the Spanish league but I believe Partey has what it takes to participate in England. Partey has the strength to play in the Premier League and excel.

“Partey moving to Arsenal comes with great joy. I’m sure he is going to deliver for the club. He will be an integral member of the team and command the midfield as well for the team.

“I cannot wait to see him in the Gunners jersey because I’m optimistic he will surely shine. His best is even yet to come. I will plead with Ghanaians to pray behind him and other Black Stars players.”

Partey is presently on international duty with Ghana as they are set to tackle Mali and Qatar in friendlies.

He will hope to make his Arsenal debut when the Gunners travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City in a crunch Premier League game on October 17.

ISL: Jamshedpur's Owen Coyle set to arrive in India

Jamshedpur FC boss Owen Coyle along with striker Nerijus Valskis and defender Peter Hartley will arrive in India on Thursday...

Jamshedpur FC head coach Owen Coyle will be the second manager in the Indian Super League (ISL) after ATK Mohun Bagan's Antonio Lopez Habas to arrive in India on Thursday.

Coyle will be accompanied by his coaching staff, Lithuanian forward Nerijus Valskis and English defender Peter Hartley and they will reach Goa on Thursday morning. They will self-quarantine themselves for 14 days before kicking off pre-season training.

Owen Coyle's son Owen Coyle Junior had posted a farewell message for his father before he left for India.

The Indian players of the club have already reached Goa and are in self-isolation. This is indeed good news for the club faithful.

The Men of Steel have made quite a few quality additions to their squad this season. Aside from hiring Owen Coyle, they also managed to rope in Chennaiyin's star striker and ISL's Golden Boot winner Nerijus Valskis.

Defender Tiri left the club to sign for ATK Mohun Bagan but the Men of Steel have brought in Nigeria's Stephen Eze and former Motherwell FC skipper Peter Hartley to guard the heart of the defence.

Among new Indian recruits, they have signed Indian international winger Jackichand Singh from FC Goa.

Liverpool's upcoming fixture list including Everton, Real Madrid and Man Utd clashes

The Three Lions have opted for the Everton goalkeeper in big games, but his form has dipped and the Burnley and Manchester United stoppers are in line

Gareth Southgate has declined to back Jordan Pickford as his No 1 for England, opening the door to Manchester United's Dean Henderson and Burnley's Nick Pope.

England have a trio of fixtures in the next week, with a friendly against Wales on Thursday followed by two UEFA Nations League matches against Belgium and Denmark

With Pickford having struggled for form in the past year with Everton, Southgate has opened the door to competition and he will use the upcoming friendly to start Henderson or Pope.

"We know that Jordan has made errors, Nick actually made errors at the weekend and Dean has only played the League Cup games in changed line ups for the opponents so it is a very close contest," Southgate said ahead of Thursday's game. "All three, we wouldn’t have any hesitation of putting in goal.

"We will make a change tomorrow because it is a good opportunity to get other people on the field, and if you are taking goalkeepers away who are not getting the opportunity to play then that’s one of the hardest things.

"We have had keepers over the years who have retired because they have found it a really difficult situation to handle, so I think for the harmony of the squad and group, we have to give people the opportunities to show what they can do, as well as to have the competition. It is a very tight call.

"I always go back to the fact Jordan’s performances for us have been excellent. I am not oblivious to his performance at Everton but there can be lots of factors within individual performances at their clubs and we have got to try and help them be in their best form with us, regardless of their situation with their clubs."

Meanwhile, a host of England hopefuls made late transfer moves to boost their hopes of making Euro 2020 in the summer of 2021.

One such player is Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek who found himself sidelined under Frank Lampard and opted for a loan move to Fulham. Southgate is keen to see the midfielder play regularly after bringing him to the World Cup in Russia

"Whenever I speak to players about these sorts of situations, first and foremost, they have got to do what’s right for their career," he added. "England is a consequence of that further down the line.

"I think when you make career decisions, you want to be playing football, so if there’s more likelihood of playing football regularly at Fulham, given the amount that Ruben has unfortunately missed through injuries. Then for his own development and the enjoyment of his career, then I think that’s key.

"If he can play well, then getting back in the England team gets on the radar, but he has missed nearly 18 months. He was really unfortunate to get the injury because he was having a super spell going into the latter stages of the Europa League

"He misses nearly a year, then just as he is getting back to fitness, we have a pandemic. So he has missed a huge chunk and it is very unfortunate. We know the talent that he has, we know what he is capable of so hopefully he can play regularly for Fulham and go from there."

Both Amakhosi and the Brazilians have new coaches but they will be determined to get their season off to a winning start

The league has already confirmed that MTN8 games will be played behind closed doors.

According to a fixture list circulating on social media, Mamelodi Sundowns will begin their title defence with a visit to Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.

Orlando Pirates have a trip to Durban to face AmaZulu for their opening league fixture of the new campaign.

While all eyes will be on the match between Amakhosi and Brazilians, there are other encounters to look forward to.

Baroka FC, who recently suspended coach Dylan Kerr, will be at home against Maritzburg United on October 24.

There will be there more fixtures on the same day with Bloemfontein Celtic hosting Golden Arrrows at Dr Molemela Stadium.

Cape Town City are scheduled to take on Chippa United at Cape Town Stadium while SuperSport United will be at home against Black Leopards at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Swallows beat the automatic promotion from the NFD while TTM and TS Galaxy bought Bidvest Wits and Highlands Park respectively, and it will be interesting to see how the pair three clubs fare in the top-flight.

Both Swallows and TS Galaxy have been busy in the transfer market in preparation for the upcoming season, and expectations are high on both teams.

The two matches (Stellenbosch vs Swallows and TTM vs TS Galaxy) will take place on Sunday, October 25.

The second batch of fixtures will see Kaizer Chiefs visit Chippa United in Port Elizabeth on October 27 while Mamelodi Sundowns will be at home against TTM a day later.

Arsenal fail physical test at Everton as Dyche makes instant impact

The Argentine believed he had a good chance to overtake Bernd Leno but when he failed to do so, he knew it was time to leave north London

Emiliano Martinez claims he was told there was a "95 per cent chance" he would be Arsenal's starting goalkeeper this season.

Despite his claim, Martinez did not find himself the Gunners' No 1 to begin the season and quickly moved to Aston Villa in a £20 million ($25m) transfer.

Martinez joined the Gunners in 2010 from his hometown club Independiente and spent much of his time at Arsenal on loan.

After Bernd Leno was injured near the end of the 2019-20 season, however, Martinez finally stepped in as No 1 and performed well while helping the Gunners win the FA Cup in August.

“I was finally the No1 and I was ready for it," Martinez told the Independent. "It took 10 years to get there. You train as a goalkeeper every day, but nobody prepares you for the story of your life.

"Nobody trains you to be frustrated, nobody trains you to cry. What about when you don’t play for four months? Will you keep going or will you be mentally dead? I could’ve done so much more over the years, but finally the world started to see what I’m capable of."

Martinez featured against Liverpool in the Community Shield in August and helped Arsenal lift that trophy, their second piece of silverware clinched at Wembley in the space of a month.

The 28-year-old felt that after he played well against Liverpool he could have a shot to overtake Leno as Arsenal's starter, and was told as much leading into the team's Premier League opener at Fulham. When he was not the starter in that match at Craven Cottage, he decided it was time to leave the Gunners.

“I thought if I played well that game [the Community Shield], I would be No.1, but afterwards it still wasn’t clear who was going to start in the league," Martinez said. "I was told that there was a 95% chance I would start against Fulham, but I just thought, ‘why not 100%?’ Something didn’t feel right. Everyone wanted me to stay, but that’s when I decided to go.

"I wasn’t upset or emotional, I was proud I did it. When I arrived at Arsenal, there were nine goalkeepers in front of me. Every year I had to prove myself, but I left as No.1. That was my story done there."

MLS: Roldan helps Sounders past Galaxy, Higuain struggles on debut

Infantino met tournament organisers and played in a seven-a-side match at the 60,000-capacity venue, which will host the opening match in 2022

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been left impressed by Qatar's preparations for the 2022 World Cup.

Infantino met with the tournament organisers during a whistle-stop tour of Qatar on Tuesday.  He visited the Al Bayt stadium, a 60,000-capacity venue designed to resemble a traditional Arab tent, and also took part in a seven-a-side match there. The striking arena is set to be inaugurated in the coming months and will host the opening game of the World Cup on 21 November 2022.

“It is an absolute pleasure to play football at this amazing stadium where on 21 November 2022, we will kick-off the greatest FIFA World Cup ever,” said Infantino.

“Al Bayt Stadium is incredible: a true football stadium. It has a real football feel and a local touch. The tented shape makes it truly unique, and the Arabic patterns in the roof are just beautiful. I am speechless," gushed Infantino.

Qatar Government and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) have implemented stringent health and safety protocols to protect workers at the various World Cup 2022 project sites from COVID-19. They have already inaugurated three venues - Khalifa International, Al Janoub and Education City stadiums - which are fully operational now. Three more venues – Al Bayt, Al Rayyan and Al Thumama – are in the final stages of construction.

All eight venues are set to be completed well in advance of the tournament and the FIFA Supremo threw his weight behind Qatar's work.

“I am very pleased with Qatar’s progress ahead of the tournament. We have seen the plans, but when you see in reality, it is even more impressive. Qatar has been able to continue to advance during the last six months when the world stood still – from infrastructure preparations to important developments such as the recent labour reforms announced by the Government. If I was confident before, now I can say I am even more,” added Infantino.

“In 2022, everything will be close by and fans from all nationalities will have the opportunity to gather in the same public areas and enjoy Qatar’s mild temperatures at this time of the year. It’s a World Cup like no other was or will ever be.”

H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary-General of the SC, highlighted the work done by Qatar in ensuring no stone is left unturned in their bid to 'Deliver Amazing' in 2022.

“We are immensely proud to be hosting the Arab World and Middle East’s first World Cup in 2022.

“With that pride comes a sense of responsibility, and that factor is enhanced since the world has had to come to terms with COVID-19.  We are optimistic that by kick-off in November 2022, we’ll be ready to welcome fans from every continent here in Qatar to celebrate together, unified by their shared passion for football.

“It was a pleasure to welcome President Infantino to Al Bayt Stadium today (Tuesday). Al Bayt is particularly meaningful to us, representing the town of Al Khor, and the culture and history of Qatar through its special design.  We’re all looking forward to the first ball of the FIFA World Cup 2022 being kicked in this stadium two years from now.”

Nasser Al Khater, CEO, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC, focused on the fans and stated that the country was looking forward to hosting fans from all over the world in 2022.

“When it comes to World Cup infrastructure, we’re in a great position with construction nearing 90% completion across all projects,” said Al Khater.

At this point on the road to 2022, our focus is now shifting from delivering infrastructure to refining and optimising the detailed operational planning and fan experience for the tournament. We are also now significantly stepping up our promotion of the tournament to ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to attend and enjoy this unique World Cup.”
