Neymar, Danilo returns have Brazil dancing into quarterfinals

The players grab their medals and Schmeichel and Morgan lift the FA Cup trophy! Leicester can celebrate a historic victory, then, before they return to Premier League duty to try to secure their place in the Champions League next season. The way things are going for them, the sky is the limit. That's all for now. Goodbye!

Everyone associated with Leicester is overjoyed at this result. It's a testament to the club's ownership, which has gone about things the right way ever since Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha arrived. No doubt the players have done their late owner proud. Rodgers becomes the first boss to win both the English and Scottish FA Cups since one Sir Alex Ferguson. Chelsea become the first side to lose FA Cup finals in consecutive seasons since Newcastle United in 1998 and 1999. They need to pick themselves back up for the Champions League final.

It's Leicester City's day as they finally win the FA Cup on their fifth final appearance! The club's greatest-ever era continues thanks to Tielemans' wonderful second-half strike, a goal worthy of winning any game. Chelsea tried their best but had no answer to it late on, with Schmeichel's two astonishing saves from Mount and Chilwell and a dramatic VAR decision keeping them out.

90' + 6' FULL-TIME: CHELSEA 0-1 LEICESTER CITY

90' + 5' Leicester have everyone back. Morgan towers high to head Chilwell's ball in away. And that's it! Leicester have won the FA Cup for the first time ever!

90' + 3' Vardy wins a timely corner for Leicester down their left off Silva. Leicester try to keep it near the corner flag but Chelsea win the throw-in. Chelsea will have time for one more attack.

90' + 2' Vardy's caught offside from Maddison's throughball. Leicester are so nearly there.

90' After the brief euphoria of thinking they'd scored Chelsea now have to gee themselves up again for one last push. There'll be five minutes of added time.

89' NO GOAL FOR CHELSEA! What incredible drama here at Wembley. The officials watch the goal back again and Chilwell was fractionally offside. Leicester fans celebrate as if they've scored again. VAR's had some big moments in English football since its introduction. This might well be the biggest.

88' GOAL! CHELSEA 1-1 LEICESTER CITY! Chelsea force a late equaliser! Silva has time and space to ping a fantastic ball towards Chilwell who darts behind Albrighton to shoot from a tight angle. Chilwell's shot pinballs around in the penalty area and it goes in off the despairing Morgan! Hang on, VAR is checking whether Chilwell was offside...

87' Schmeichel makes an incredible save to tip Mount's snap shot from inside the box around the post! That's a heroic save by the Leicester captain, given the state of the game at the moment. Mount surely thought he'd scored.

86' Hudson-Odoi flings in a cross from the right and Fofana is there again to head it away. The 20-year-old Frenchman has been fantastic at centre-back for Leicester.

85' Leicester keep the ball following the corner and Vardy's backheel flick goes out for a Chelsea goal-kick. If Chelsea are going to score, it needs to be soon.

84' Vardy finds himself one-on-one with Silva and Silva sticks a leg out to put the ball behind for a Leicester corner. That was a fun battle between the two 30-somethings.

83' Rudiger gets stars in his eyes and fires high and wide from outside the box. Chelsea are getting nervy.

80' Soyuncu slips but still manages to punt the ball away from trouble as Werner hunts him down. Leicester's ambitions for the next 10 minutes look limited to hanging onto their lead.

78' Chance for Chelsea! Kante crosses in and Chilwell nods a header into the ground that it looks to be heading in at the far post. Schmeichel makes a fingertip save to keep it out. That's a big save in a game that hasn't had many of them. Chelsea get a corner off Albrighton but can't do anything with it.

77' Fofana heads another hopeful Chelsea cross away. Leicester now have everyone back in their own half.

76' Leicester will have to keep their wits about them now as Chelsea look to be turning to all-out attack. The 19-year-old Thomas receives some treatment before play resumes. What an occasion this is for the teenager to be part of.

73' Chelsea keep Leicester pinned in their defensive third until Maddison's caught by Azpilicueta. Chelsea are looking short of ideas.

72' Chelsea force a corner down their right which James takes high towards the far post. Leicester rush Chelsea all the way back to Kepa.

71' Jorginho misplaces his pass and Tielemans, the game's best player, seeks out Vardy straight away. Silva is in the right place to win the header.

70' Mount goes down in Leicester's penalty area under Soyuncu's fair challenge. To his credit Mount doesn't appeal for the penalty.

65' Chelsea look to come back quickly as Ziyech has an effort blocked from outside the box. Leicester survive the corner.

64' Tielemans has become the first Leicester player to score in an FA Cup final since Ken Keyworth in 1963 against Manchester United. Leicester fans will remember that goal for some time to come.

63' Pulisic is getting some final instructions in Chelsea's technical area. Both teams are looking to bring gamechangers off their bench now.

62' Chelsea see the corner out but not very far. This time Albrighton's cross is to no one in particular.

61' Leicester take the corner short and Albrighton forces another corner off Rudiger. Leicester's fans are making some racket. It must be inspiring to their team to hear them again.

60' Albrighton tries to beat Alonso near the corner flag and earns a corner out of it. Leicester ideally need to make this period of pressure count.

58' Silva knocks the ball over the top for Werner to chase and Schmeichel lets it bounce harmlessly out of play. Tuchel might want to start considering a change or two to his team.

56' Chelsea clear the initial corner but Leicester still have the ball. Tielemans sends in another dangerous ball and Alonso nods it out for a throw-in. Leicester are growing in influence.

55' The offside flag goes up against Werner and Leicester have possession. Tielemans's delivery into the box is promising and earns Leicester a corner.

53' Chelsea put together a decent passage of play with Jorginho finding Kante's run down the right. Kante thumps the ball towards the far post and Alonso's header at Schmeichel is a soft one.

52' Leicester are getting Maddison ready to come on. They'll be hoping the England prospect can give them more of a creative spark in midfield.

51' Tielemans' control lets him down and the Belgian slides in on Jorginho, taking him out. The referee lets Tielemans off this time.

50' Kepa sweeps up on the edge of his box with Vardy lurking. Leicester have stepped up a gear since half-time.

49' Soyuncu carries the ball up Leicester's left but soon plays himself into trouble. Perez goes safety-first by punting out for a throw-in, hurting himself in the process by catching Kante's foot. Thankfully it's just a minor knock.

47' Werner finds Mount on the underlap. The solid Fofana tracks Mount all the way and shepherds the ball out for a goal-kick.

46' Leicester start the second half brightly, making gradual inroads down their right. Alonso hacks Kante's pass out of play.

45' Chelsea get the second half of this cup final going. Neither side has made changes at half-time.

This is the first FA Cup final to be goalless at half-time since 2016 when Manchester United went on to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in extra-time. Both teams will be pleased with their first-half displays but their forwards have largely been quiet, especially Iheanacho who's this competition's top scorer this season. Can Chelsea go on to make their experience count?

It's been a tight, tactical game so far without much in terms of goalmouth action. Chelsea have edged the game but Leicester have arguably had the best chances, as James blocked Vardy's shot and Soyuncu had a few headers off-target.

45' + 2' HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

45' + 1' Soyuncu makes a sliding tackle to hand Chelsea a corner and a chance to end this first half on a high. Azpilicueta gets to Ziyech's cross first and Leicester hook it away. That's all for now!

45' There'll be two added minutes before the break. Tielemans floats an inviting ball into the box. Vardy's flicked header is of no concern to Kepa.

44' James sends this corner towards the far post and it sails out of play for a Leicester goal-kick. Leicester will be happy to go in level at half-time.

43' Albrighton plays a poor pass and Werner drives at goal, dragging his shot wide. It brushes off the underside of Fofana's thigh to hand Chelsea their fifth corner of the game.

42' Leicester get another opportunity to worry Chelsea from a set-piece down their left. Thomas is the one to take it this time. Soyuncu glances it wide at the near post.

41' Leicester are growing in confidence but there hasn't been much quality on show yet. Neither side has had a shot on target.

39' Ziyech slides in Werner and Fofana makes a fantastic double block to stop the German from testing Schmeichel. Leicester clear and Werner tries to salvage the situation by sliding in on Thomas. The referee's unimpressed and blows his whistle.

38' Leicester get a free-kick as Ziyech tackles Thomas by the touchline. Leicester haven't been troubled since Evans went off which is good news for them.

37' Perez jinks down the left and is met by James. Leicester keep the ball moving and Vardy can't control Albrighton's deep cross.

35' Mount fizzes across the Leicester penalty area from the left but can't find a teammate. Leicester get a welcome throw-in shortly after.

32' Evans drops to the turf. It looks like Leicester's veteran centre-back will be unable to continue. It's unfortunate for the Northern Irishman who brings valuable experience to Leicester's defence.

30' Leicester keep the ball at the back for a while as they regain their composure before Ndidi passes harmlessly out of play. Chelsea are on top but Leicester are still very much in this game.

28' Chelsea win another corner off Soyuncu. Evans heads Ziyech's cross out. Chelsea keep the pressure on though and Azpilicueta can't crane his neck enough to power Werner's flick-on into the net. It's a let-off for Leicester.

27' Werner blazes way over as Evans backs off to give the German a chance to shoot. Tuchel throws up his arms in frustration that Werner can't find the target.

26' Leicester fans are unhappy with a James challenge on Perez. Play continues.

25' Tielemans lines up a shot from range and Silva tracks the Belgian well to block. Ndidi gives away a free-kick on Werner to kill Leicester's momentum.

23' Seconds after he has a shot blocked, Mount drifts into an awkward position for Soyuncu and beats the defender to get another effort away. It takes a deflection and goes out for a Chelsea corner. Schmeichel grabs it first-time.

22' The rain is lashing down at Wembley as Chelsea go back on the attack. Ziyech stretches the play and passes inside to Alonso. The Spaniard can't get his feet together and Leicester clear.

20' Tielemans swings the free-kick in and Soyuncu's header loops over the crossbar. That's a decent opportunity for Leicester who've had the better chances so far.

19' Iheanacho latches onto a throughball and plays it onto Silva's hand. It's accidental but the Chelsea man did handle the ball. Leicester have a free-kick in a promising position down their right.

18' Iheanacho goes down after a challenge from Rudiger. The referee isn't interested.

17' Werner lures Evans out after him and buys a free-kick. Chelsea have had 70 per cent of the ball in the opening 15 minutes of this game.

15' Alonso is unable to find Werner with a sweeping crossfield pass and Leicester break. Castagne gallops down the right and fizzes in a low ball for Vardy whose shot is blocked by James. Leicester might have found a decent route to goal.

14' Rudiger, who's still wearing a protective face mask, has a pop from distance that predictably rolls wide. Leicester are holding their own for now.

13' Ziyech floats a high cross in from the left and Thomas lets it go out for a Leicester throw-in.

12' Tielemans slides into the back of Mount and scythes the Chelsea midfielder down. Leicester are leaving gaps in midfield at the moment as their front line ventures forward to press.

11' Ziyech lumps a hopeful ball forward that Schmeichel gathers. Chelsea look confident and are playing calmly and methodically.

10' Chelsea give the ball away and Leicester look to counter through Vardy. James holds off Leicester's veteran striker to watch the ball safely go out for a Chelsea goal-kick.

8' Chelsea force another corner down their right but aren't able to create a scoring opportunity from it. Leicester certainly don't look scared of their opponents so far.

7' Interestingly, James has started to the right of Chelsea's back three while Azpilicueta is at wing-back. No doubt that's to combat the searing pace of Vardy.

6' It's been a good start by Chelsea as they win the first corner of the game off Thomas. James puts it into the box and it's headed out for a Chelsea throw-in.

5' Ziyech, starting on the left for Chelsea, looks to thread a pass through for the overlapping Alonso. Fofana spots the danger and intercepts it.

3' Leicester get their first shot of the game as Vardy lofts a shot into the arms of Kepa. It's a comfortable catch for the Chelsea keeper.

2' For the second time in the space of a minute and a half, Werner has beaten Soyuncu for pace to get the ball into the box. This time Leicester's central defenders sweep up.

1' Chelsea start the game on the front foot as Werner darts down their right and crosses low into Leicester's penalty area. Schmeichel gathers the ball easily.

1' The referee Michael Oliver blows his whistle and Leicester get this 140th FA Cup final underway!

The 20,000 fans lucky enough to be at Wembley cheer the players out onto the pitch where they're greeted by Prince William. As the administrative home team, Chelsea will play wearing their usual royal blue. Leicester will play in their maroon third kit. Becky Hill sings a stirring rendition of God Save The Queen. We're nearly ready for kick-off!

Chelsea are surely favourites to win this game due to their experience at this level. After all, they've reached a major domestic or European final in the last five consecutive seasons now. However, they've been more brittle at Wembley in recent years, losing four of their last seven trips here. Can Leicester make it fifth time lucky and lift the FA Cup for the very first time?

Thomas Tuchel makes five changes to the Chelsea side that lost to Arsenal in the Premier League midweek. Kepa stays in goal, while Rudiger, Kante, Alonso, Ziyech and Werner start. There's just the one change to Leicester from their win away to Manchester United last time out. Evans is fit to start so Albrighton drops to the bench. Schmeichel becomes the first goalkeeper to captain his team at an FA Cup final since David James in 2010.

Brendan Rodgers' young guns are a team on the up, but have they got what it takes to kick on and win silverware? Let's find out!

This is the 140th FA Cup final with Chelsea and Leicester becoming the 117th different pairing in the competition's showcase match. Chelsea know what it takes to win this competition. Hello! Welcome to our live text commentary of the 2021 FA Cup final between Chelsea and Leicester City at Wembley Stadium.

Why Japan is a different challenge than USWNT for Sweden

The Uruguayan striker was never a fan of a breakaway project that his current club signed up to, and he doesn't like technology much either

Edinson Cavani has taken aim at the Super League and VAR, with the Manchester United striker not a fan of two projects that have caused controversy for the Red Devils this season.

Anger at the ongoing presence of the Glazer family at Old Trafford has boiled over in the wake of the divisive decision to sign Premier Lague heavyweights up for a breakaway European competition.

Those plans were quickly ripped up, with owners in Manchester still bearing the brunt of protests, and Cavani has aired his surprise at seeing his current employers get involved with a proposal that threatened to rip the heart out of club football.

What has been said?

The Uruguayan frontman has told Dos De Punta: "When the Super League came around I told myself: 'That can't be possible - if it happens, what can we expect next?'

"I don't share its ideas at all. I am not in agreement with it. You mustn't deprive more modest teams the chance of playing in the Champions League.

"Or stop average clubs from dreaming of competing with the bigger ones, and having a place among the elite. You can't deny fans of these clubs the chance to have this experience."

What else has incurred Cavani's wrath?

The 34-year-old is clearly not a fan of change, with the South American also taking aim at the introduction of technology in modern football.

As a striker he is more open to VAR interference than most - with marginal offside decisions becoming the norm - and  feels that too much emotion is being taken out of the game.

Cavani added: "VAR takes away the charm and the essence of football.

"You don't know why a referee awards a penalty against you or rules you offside - or even how it works. It is difficult. You score a goal and then have to wait two minutes before you can celebrate.

"Or, even worse, you celebrate then they tell you it has been ruled out because your fingernail or your hair was in an offside position. Or else because one of your team-mates committed a minor foul that nobody noticed - 14 passes before you put the ball in the net.

"Us players don't count when things like this are brought in. It's a case of 'Play and keep your mouth shut - you earn lots of money'.

"Football is becoming a slog for us, even if there is some passion as well. You need to keep a cool head to put up with this routine for a long time."

Arsenal's midfield loanees of the 21st century - ranked

Many of the Blues fans are upset with the decision to start the Spaniard ahead of the Senegal international against the Foxes

Thomas Tuchel’s decision to start Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of Edouard Mendy in the FA Cup final has left Chelsea’s African fans fuming.

Mendy will start as a substitute as the Blues would be hoping to lift a ninth FA Cup final against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.

Following the errors that had crept into the Spain international’s game, the 29-year-old was signed from Ligue 1 side Rennes in a £22m ($31m) deal.

Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, the Senegal international has made an immense contribution as the Stamford Bridge giants bounced back from a shaky start in the 2020-21 campaign.

Unhappy by Tuchel’s choice, fans of the Roman Army have taken to social media to express their disappointment.

Ogonna Chukwudi: Madrid CFF sign Nigeria midfielder from CSKA Moscow

The Dutch centre-half is already at the top of his game, but believes important lessons can be taken from stars of other sports

Virgil van Dijk has cemented a standing among the global football elite, but the Liverpool centre-half is eager to scale even greater heights and has been using tennis legend Roger Federer as a source of inspiration.

The Netherlands international has been showered with praise over recent years, with the commanding 29-year-old making the art of defending look easy at times.

In that sense he is already of the Federer mould - with the enigmatic Swiss famed for his seemingly laid-back approach to earning success - but those at the top of any sporting field are always looking for marginal gains that will make them even better.

What has been said?

Van Dijk falls into that category, with the Dutchman - who has sat out much of the current campaign through injury and is set to miss this summer's European Championship - saying in a new book by Leo Moynihan called 'Thou Shall Not Pass: The Anatomy of Football’s Centre-Half': "Some people suggest I make the game look easy, but trust me, every game is very tough.

"We play against world-class strikers, very physical strikers, and never am I thinking, ‘This is easy.’ Maybe though, I want my opponent to think I am.

"Look at Roger Federer. If you see him play tennis, you think he doesn’t sweat. Mentally, that must be so tough for his opponent, who will think he’s not trying."

Van Dijk added on trying to emulate a man with 20 Grand Slam titles to his name: "Sometimes I think like that. Try to get into the head of the opponent, not by talking to him, not by kicking him, but trying to make him think that if he is going to play well or score today, he’s going to have to step up.

"Yes, you have to be confident in your own ability, otherwise people will walk all over you. There are other ways to win games; you don’t have to kick or curse people out."

Van Dijk's record at Liverpool

The Reds made Van Dijk the most expensive defender in world football when luring him away from Premier League rivals Southampton for £75 million ($106m) in January 2018.

He proved to be one of the final pieces in a trophy-winning jigsaw for Jurgen Klopp, with a long wait for major silverware brought to a close in 2019.

Liverpool claimed the Champions League crown that season, before going on to end a 30-year wait for title glory in the English top-flight a year later.

Sandwiched between those successes were UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup wins, with Van Dijk becoming a talismanic presence at the heart of the Reds' defence.

He has been a big miss for Klopp's side this season, having suffered knee ligament damage, but is now up to 130 appearances for the Merseyside giants and is tied to a contract through to the summer of 2023.

Willian Jose: Things to know about the Wolves frontman

Thomas Tuchel has started the Spaniard ahead of the Senegal international for Saturday’s showdown against the Foxes

Edouard Mendy will start as a substitute when Chelsea take on Leicester City in Saturday’s FA Cup final.

According to the Blues’ starting XI revealed on social media, Kepa Arrizabalaga will be in goal against Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes, while the Senegalese is a substitute.

Whereas, Argentina’s Willy Caballero will play no part in the crunch tie billed for Wembley Stadium as he was axed by the Blues boss.

The decision is understandable as the club’s second choice has played in most of the games in the tournament for the Stamford Bridge giants.

Mendy was lured from Ligue 1 outfit Rennes in a £22m ($31m) deal as the six-time English top-flight kings sought to find greater stability between the sticks as costly errors had crept into Arrizabalaga’s game.

The 29-year-old has since proven to be one of the bargain signings of the season, keeping 13 clean sheets in his first 17 games for the London side since the start of January.

Veteran Nigerian coach Henry Abiodun has tipped him to become one of the world’s best custodians.

“He has been one of the major differences. Even before Frank Lampard was shown the way out. He has been able to make an impressive impact since he came in,” Abiodun told Goal.

“Now that he has a very solid back three, he’s going to continue doing better. With the defensive formation right now, he [Mendy] cannot do much wrong. So far so good, I am impressed with his performance and I think, he will continue to build his confidence.

“He is on his way to writing his name in gold in world football and also becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the world

“So, Mendy is a pride to Africa as a continent. I think what the future holds for him is great and hopefully, he doesn’t suffer any injury.”

Meanwhile, Morocco international Hakim Ziyech will lead the Blues attack alongside Timo Werner and Mason Mount in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

On the other end, Kelechi Iheanacho will start from the bench for the King Power Stadium side.

While Rodgers’ team would be hoping to win the title for their first time ever, the Blues are aiming to win the iconic diadem for the ninth time since they first won it during the 1969–70 season.

Brendan Rodgers among contenders as Barcelona consider managerial options

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not take part in the upcoming European Championships due to injury, Sweden's national team has confirmed.

The AC Milan striker pulled up with a knee injury in the second half of the Rossoneri's recent 3-0 thumping of Juventus.

Head coach Stefano Pioli has originally hoped the injury was merely a knock but it now appears the 39-year-old will need a substantial amount of time to recover.

What happened to Ibrahimovic?

The veteran forward was competing in the midfield for a ball when he went down with what appeared to be a non-contact injury. He persisted for a couple of minutes but ultimately needed to be replaced by Ante Rebic.

After the match, Pioli said: “Ibra wasn't fit before the game, now he feels pain in his knee and we hope it's nothing too serious.”

Ibrahimovic subsequently missed Wednesday's clash with Cagliari, with Pioli adding that his main goal threat was merely suffering from a “slight sprain”, but it now appears that the injury is worse than originally feared.

What have Sweden said?

In a statement released on Saturday via Twitter, Svensk Fotboll said:

“Today, Zlatan has informed [head coach] Janne Andersson that his injury will stop him from participating in the European Championships this summer.

“Get well, Zlatan, we hope to see you on the football field again soon!”

Moyes unsure how 'realistic' Lingard deal is as West Ham wait on Man Utd decision

The Hammers boss remains keen on keeping a loan star at the London Stadium, but accepts that a big call rests with the Red Devils

David Moyes is unsure how "realistic" a permanent deal for Jesse Lingard will be for West Ham, with Manchester United yet to make a definitive call on the midfielder's future.

The Hammers took a calculated gamble on the England international during the winter transfer window after seeing him frozen out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans at Old Trafford.

A spark has been rediscovered by the 28-year-old in east London, with nine goals and three assists helping him to become a Premier League Player of the Month winner, but it remains to be seen where he will be playing his football in 2021-22.

What has been said?

West Ham boss Moyes remains keen on getting another agreement in place, but told reporters on his chances of landing Lingard: "I'm not sure how realistic it is.

"I think Jesse has enjoyed himself, I hope he has, we've enjoyed having him.

"Manchester United, he is their player so they can decide what to do with him. If they choose that they want to let him go then I'd hope he'd consider us as one of his options."

The bigger picture

The Hammers' efforts to bring Lingard back next season may be aided by the addition of European competition to their schedule.

Moyes' men remain in contention for a top-four finish, and a Europa League spot at worst, with their manager adamant that he would welcome continental action of any kind.

The Scot added, with West Ham back in action against Brighton on Saturday: "European football for a club like us, folk would be saying you don’t want to be playing European football on a Thursday and then [League] on a Sunday, all that carry on. I do. I want it bad. I want the players here to want it bad. They’ve been getting it in the ear off me for six to eight months so for that I really want it.

"When you get a chance you’ve got to take it. We’ve had a smell of Champions League, we’ll keep trying to go for it but that has got a little bit less likely than maybe it was a couple of weeks ago.

"If there is some way you want to be rewarded for the season you have had, I think European football will be that reward.

"We all watch it, we all know about it, many of us have been involved in it, there are players here who have played in European games before. I think we want to try and get in amongst it.

"I don’t know if I will be saying that if I was in it and worrying about getting teams and whatnot together. But overall, I’m not considering any of that at the moment.

"I can only consider trying to win the next game. We might not make it, but I think we have got a good chance, and I want us to keep on going and try and do it."

Vaz Pinto: Gor Mahia to search for dynamics as they face Nairobi City Stars

The Portuguese tactician is happy to see action return as he prepares K’Ogalo for their first match against Simba wa Nairobi

Gor Mahia coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto has stated they have committed themselves to win their matches with dynamism when they resume FKF Premier League action against Nairobi City Stars on Sunday.

The Kenyan champions were struggling when the league took a break owing to Covid-19 pandemic but with the team readying for their first match in 55 days, the Portuguese tactician has shed some light on their approach to matches when action resumes.

“Our last game was about 55 days ago, we are happy to be back but we look at the physical integrity of the players with apprehension,” Vaz Pinto told the club’s social media pages.

“We go in search of dynamics and with a lot of commitment for victories.”

His sentiments are echoed by team captain Harun Shakava, who stated: “The break really affected the flow and momentum because we had started pushing hard and the team was gelling but I think as time rolls, we will get the momentum back in both trainings and games.”

K’Ogalo had suffered a dip in form when the action was halted were as they had already suffered six defeats in 14 matches and were seventh on the 18-team table with 22 points.

In an earlier interview, the coach explained his happiness at seeing the top-flight return but warned that he will have to protect his players’ injuries since he anticipates a congested fixture list.

“It is very good when you come back to your job, we missed this a lot and it’s important to improve again our players to be ready to resume the action and to be honest we are ready for the action,” Vaz Pinto told Goal.

“It was very good today [Tuesday], training together, not only the coach missed such training sessions but also the players, and they have put in a lot of commitment, and these training sessions were very good and now we are very anxious to resume the league.

“Because the schedule changed again we need to plan about the new schedule because of that tomorrow [Wednesday] we have a meeting with my staff to plan this again.

“But what we expect of course is one schedule, not like very crowded because we stopped playing around 50 days ago and this is too much and it is not easy for the players.

“We need to prevent injuries and big injuries because we did not have enough time to do a new pre-season and now we have maybe short time to prepare for the first game and we need to take care about our players this is now what we are planning and my hope is to prevent injuries.”

Apart from Gor Mahia versus City Stars, other matches set for Sunday include Mathare United against Vihiga United while Bandari will host Bidco United.

LIVE: Freiburg vs Bayern Munich

10' Close! Sane cuts inside from the right, before drilling an 18-yard strike narrowly wide of the near post!

8' Grifo will most likely be key if Freiburg are to pull off an upset today. Grifo has had a hand in 17 Bundesliga goals this season (nine goals, eight assists). Since detailed data collection began in 2004/05, only two players have ever been directly involved in more goals for Freiburg in one top-flight campaign: Papiss Cisse (22 in 2010/11) and Max Kruse (19 in 2012/13).

6' The hosts have made a confident start so far. They've settled quickly and have enjoyed plenty of possession, while also stifling Bayern when defending.

4' Kimmich trips Grifo on the edge of the box, presenting Freiburg with a promising crossing opportunity. Grifo elects to try an audacious shot from the set-piece though, and it swerves comfortably wide of the far post.

2' Flekken scuffs a clearance towards Lewandowski, but Hofler just manages to get there first to prevent a mishap.

1' Freiburg get the first half underway.

The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick off is just seconds away!

In Bayern’s 6-0 win over Gladbach last time out, Robert Lewandowski scored three or more goals in one game for the fifth time in the Bundesliga this season – only Gerd Muller has ever managed this more often (six times in 1971/72). Lewandowski is now one goal away from Muller’s 40-goal record campaign from 1971/72.

Bayern make three alterations to the team that thrashed Gladbach 6-0 last weekend: Pavard makes way for Sule in defence, while Coman and Musiala are replaced in attack by Gnabry and Sane.

Freiburg make one change to the side that defeated Koln 4-1 last time out – Santamaria slots into midfield in place of Yannik Keitel.

SUBS: Benjamin Pavard, Bouna Sarr, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Corentin Tolisso, Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman, Manuel Neuer, Marc Roca, Javi Martinez.

BAYERN MUNICH (4-2-3-1): Alexander Nubel; Niklas Sule, Jerome Boateng, Lucas Hernandez, Alphonso Davies; Joshua Kimmich, David Alaba; Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry; Robert Lewandowski.

SUBS: Lucas Holer, Woo-Yeong Jeong, Janik Haberer, Jonathan Schmid, Yannik Keitel, Dominique Heintz, Keven Schlotterbeck, Chang-Hoon Kwon, Benjamin Uphoff.

FREIBURG (4-4-2): Mark Flekken; Lukas Kubler, Philipp Lienhart, Manuel Gulde, Christian Gunter; Roland Sallai, Nicolas Hofler, Baptiste Santamaria, Vincenzo Grifo; Ermedin Demirovic, Nils Petersen.

Bayern, meanwhile, secured the Bundesliga title last weekend and they’ll be looking for two wins in their final two games to break the 80-point mark for the season.

Hello and welcome to live commentary of this Bundesliga fixture between Freiburg and Bayern Munich. The hosts enter this one safely placed in ninth after two wins from their last five games and they’ll be hoping to finish their last ever game at the Schwarzwald-Stadion with a victory today, before they move into their new home for the 2021/22 season.

Antonio Conte is pound for pound the best coach in Europe

The Brewers resumed their top-flight action with a frustrating result against the hard-fighting Bankers at Ruaraka Grounds

Tusker FC suffered a setback in their FKF Premier League title race after a 0-0 draw against KCB in a match at Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday.

The Brewers came into their first match after the resumption of football with the aim of picking up maximum points so as to stretch their lead at the summit of the 18-team table but they could not break down a resilient KCB side, even after they were reduced to ten men.

Tusker coach Robert Matano opted to hand Sammy Meja his first start for the Brewers while Rogders Aloro was paired in the defence alongside Eugine Asike, with James Macharia leading the attacking line.

Playing in the muddy pitch after the heavy rains which pounded Nairobi City and its environs on Friday night, Tusker mastered the conditions with passing football and their best chance in the half came in the 20th minute when captain Hashim Sempala exchanged passes with Apollo Otieno but his final shot went inches wide.

The Brewers continued to knock at the door of the Bankers and in the 40th minute Macharia dribbled past KCB defenders Baraka Edage and Harun Thomas, but once again his final effort was easy for goalkeeper Michael Wanjala to deal with.

The two teams went into the half-time break tied at 0-0 and after the resumption, KCB had good chance to break the deadlock but Henry Onyango saw his free header saved by Emery Mvuyekure.

Matano then moved to make a double change for Tusker in the 65th minute as Macharia came off for Luke Namanda while Henry Onyango came in for Otieno.

Immediately after the change, Tusker nearly broke the deadlock as Aloro curled in a beautiful free-kick which keeper Wanjala pushed out for a fruitless corner-kick.

KCB were then reduced to ten men after Curtis Wekesa was sent off for a bad tackle but despite the numerical advantage, Tusker could not snatch a win as the two sides settled for a draw.

The Brewers will remain at the top with 37 points from 17 matches while Kariobangi Sharks, who beat visiting Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 on Friday, will remain second with 31 points, the same as third-placed KCB.

Tusker: Emery Mvuyekure, Kevin Monyi, Sammy Meja, Eugine Asike, Rodgers Aloro, Hashim Sempala ©, Luke Namanda, Apollo Otieno, Henry Meja, Jackson Macharia, and Boniface Muchiri.

Things we learned from the first legs of the Champions League quarter finals

The England international admits he is not yet at the level that will allow him to fill a starting berth alongside some iconic figures

Marcus Rashford has left himself out of a dream Manchester United six-a-side team, but has found spots for club legends such as Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand.

At 23 years of age, a highly-rated product of the Old Trafford academy system is in the process of trying to cement a lasting legacy of his own.

He admits that, despite hitting 88 goals for the club through 269 appearances, he is not there yet and must look to iconic figures from the past to fill a fearsome small-sided line-up.

What has been said?

Asked during a Q&A session on Instagram to piece together a dream six-a-side team made up of United players, Rashford said: "Right, I'm going to go with most players from the teams that I watched when I was growing up.

"I'd probably have [David] De Gea, but it was a close one between him and [Edwin] Van der Sar.

"When I was a kid Van der Sar was one of the best keepers and obviously playing with David has been great, so I'd have to put David in there."

On his selections in front of a Spanish goalkeeper, Rashford added: "At the back I'd have Rio Ferdinand.

"I'm all-out attack there. I'd have [Paul] Scholesy in front of Rio, [Ryan] Giggs on the right, Ronaldo on the left and Rooney up front.

"I'm not putting myself in. Not yet."

Why did Rashford make those choices?

De Gea is the only member of United's current squad that has a Premier League title to his name, having figured in the last of Sir Alex Ferguson's successes back in 2013.

Ferdinand claimed six top-flight crowns across his 12 years with the Red Devils, along with two League Cup wins and a Champions League triumph.

Ronaldo also formed part of that European win from 2008 and collected the first of his five Ballons d'Or while in Manchester, hitting 118 goals in 292 appearances.

Scholes and Giggs, like Rashford, stepped out of the youth ranks to become senior stars for United, with the Class of '92 defining an era in English football.

Rooney was snapped up from Everton in 2004 and left 13 years later as the club's all-time leading scorer - hitting 253 goals across 559 outings - and with five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, three League Cups, a Champions League, Europa League and Club World Cup win to his name.

Rashford added: "Him [Rooney] and Ronaldo were my two favourite players growing up, so to get an opportunity to play with him was an unbelievable experience."

When do Arsenal & Tottenham play each other in the North London derby in 2022/23?

The Buccaneers were forced to play their last continental match against Enyimba without a substitute gloveman

Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauerhas confirmed the return of goalkeepers Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane from injury while saying long-term absentee attacker Thembinkosi Lorch “might” be available for Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup quarter-final, second leg clash against Raja Casablanca.

The Soweto giants have been depleted in the goalkeeping department with Wayne Sandilands and Elson Sithole the only available goal minders.

But with Sithole not registered for the Confederation Cup, Sundowns were forced to travel to their final group match to Enyimba without a keeper on the bench.

Zinnbauer has also said that Lorch, who last played in February, could be back together with captain Happy Jele and Thabang Monare.

“It sure has been a problem [injuries to Ofori and Mpontshane], but we will have one or both of the players available on Sunday,” Zinnbauer told the media.

“We have to decide now which player has come back better from the injury. We have two days now, and we can have a look at which player is ready for the game. And the other injured players, we don’t have 100 percent information on which player is coming back. Maybe Happy will come back, Monare or Lorch.

“We will work on it but we have been waiting for a long time for these players and I hope tomorrow [Saturday] latest, [we find out] if one of these players is back. [Terrence] Dzukamanja is out, but I hope [Bongani] Sam comes back but Gaba [Frank Mhango] is back now. I hope they are all ready and we will then have a good choice [of selection] we can make for our starting line-up and the bench also.”

Ofori has not played since March, while Mpontshane has been out since April and has missed Pirates’ last five games.

The Buccaneers will be facing a Raja side who were the 2018 Confederation Cup champions and Zinnbauer talks about their title chances.

“It is important that we have a good result and if you have a good result we will be looking forward to next Sunday and then you have a big chance you can go to the semi-finals,” said Zinnbauer.

“That is the reason why we work, we want to win the title. But we know this opponent is one of the best in this competition. If we win this game we get into the semi-finals, then you have to think about winning the title. But first, we have to win these games.”

Manchester United 0-0 Real Sociedad: Player ratings as Red Devils qualify for last 16

With their first Scudetto for a decade in the bag, the Morocco winger sees no reason why the Nerazzurri cannot go on to conquer the continent

Achraf Hakimi believes that Inter can create a dynasty of domestic and international success under Antonio Conte's guidance, after they ended Juventus' decade-long reign at the Serie A summit.

The Nerazzurri won their first Scudetto since 2010 earlier this month under the ex-Bianconeri legend's hand, ending his former club's extensive tenure as champions of Italy.

The result means that Inter will be the club to beat next term, but the Morocco international does not feel that their crown will be a once-in-a-lifetime success, arguing that their manager's vision could pave the way for a period of dominance at home and abroad.

What did Hakimi say?

"The ambition, the project and Conte's words are what convinced me to join," the 22-year-old told Sportweek, having arrived at San Siro from Real Madrid last year.

"He called to tell me he wanted me. He asked me what I saw and and wanted in my future, then he explained how we would play. It made me feel important.

"Here, there is a project that begins with Conte, with his young players. If it continues, we will be able to open a cycle that will lead us to dominate in both Italy and Europe."

Modern mixed fortunes for Nerazzurri

Since Inter last lifted the Champions League in 2010, with a triumph over Bayern Munich, they have struggled to capture the heights they once scaled when it has come to continental football.

They saw quarter-final and round-of-16 exits over the following two seasons, before enduring a six-term absence from Europe's biggest competition owing to underpar domestic form.

Last season, they did reach the final of the Europa League under Conte, but were outgunned by Sevilla in Cologne, losing a 3-2 thriller.

Amrouche: Algerian tactician reveals why he turned down Kaizer Chiefs

The experienced coach also discusses why Amakhosi are bound to struggle against Simba SC

Adel Amrouche has revealed why he turned down Kaizer Chiefs when the club was looking to replace former head coach Ernst Middendorp.

Amakhosi dismissed German tactician, Middendorp, after his charges were beaten to the 2019/ 20 PSL title by their Gauteng rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. Several tacticians were lined up for the job, one of them being the 53-year-old who was seen as the one who could take Chiefs to the next level.

"After Middendorp's exit, Chiefs wanted me, actually they made contact and we discussed," Amrouche told Goal on Saturday.

"However, I could not agree because I was still contracted by Botswana. It is not good to break a contract, once I have made an agreement with someone, it is like that, it has to be honoured.

"I just couldn't break my agreement with Botswana, and it is the reason why I turned down Chiefs."

On Saturday, the South African heavyweights will be playing their counterparts from Tanzania, Simba SC in the first leg of the Caf Champions League quarter-final.

The Algerian believes Amakhosi will struggle to beat Mnyama in the competition.

"Looking at Simba, they have had a good season and they have quality players who are effectively competing," Amrouche stated.

"They have the momentum and all players are motivated and determined to make it to the next stage. From the beginning of the competition, they have been consistent.

"But for Chiefs, things have not been good, they lost some good players and did not replace them. They have also struggled to get the right balance and some gel is missing. As a result, their confidence levels have been affected as well and it is the reason I believe they will struggle."

The former Harambee Stars coach has been heavily linked with the vacant coaching position at Uganda Cranes after the exit of Johnathan McKinstry.

"As initially stated, I respect my contracts, and breaking them is least in my mind," Amrouche continued.

"Currently, I have two months remaining in my contract with Botswana. From there, I will know where to go; but for sure, I will not renew it since I have achieved what I wanted.

"It is time for a new challenge elsewhere."

Matano: Tusker's minds and hearts are on the FKF Premier League title

The veteran tactician maintains the Brewers will continue to push for the title as they face the Bankers in their return to action

Tusker FC coach Robert Matano has stated their minds and hearts are set on winning the FKF Premier League title as they resume action with a clash against KCB on Saturday.

The Brewers were enjoying a good run in the top-flight which had seen them cement their place at the top of the 18-team table and ahead of their resumption fixture against the Bankers, coach Matano has urged the team to continue from where they left in the first leg of the season.

“It is good to be back because we have been idle for a while now, almost two months and we are pleased to be getting back to business,” Matano told the club’s official website. “We started training last week and this was our second week.

“We desire, are willing, and ready to continue from where we left. It is not so easy especially after staying out for almost two months without training but we are ready to bounce back.

“Everybody was affected but we will work hard to continue with our rhythm and make sure we defend our place. We want to continue with the same spirit. We are still willing to move forward.

“We want to play a match at a time and get results, everybody wants to win and our consistency will be key, our aim, our minds, and hearts are willing to fight for the title.”

In a previous interview, Tusker captain Hashim Sempala revealed every player in the team is currently dreaming of winning the title in this campaign.

“It is my dream and everyone is dreaming about it [to win the title], some of the players have been here, we have been together for a very long time and we are trying to at least lift everyone up so we can get that happiness of winning the title,” Sempala told Goal on Friday.

On their return from the lockdown which halted football for almost 50 days, Sempala said: “First of all we thank God for coming back safely from the prolonged lockdown, and as players, we are happy to be back on the ground because it is our job it is our work, that we play football, we want to make fans happy, our sponsors happy.

“It is true we were on the right momentum [before the league was stopped], fine and everyone expected us to be rising up but right now I know we are a bit down but since we came back we are trying too much so we can catch up with lost time and the best fitness level and also to be together as a team and catch up with the rest of teams.

“It is our determination to get back to good fitness level, we are trying to catch up, we are trying to be together we are trying to focus mostly as we are looking to tackle a game per game.”

Tusker are leading the 18-team table with 36 points from 16 matches.

New twist as Safa denies Ntseki appointment as Broos’ Bafana Bafana assistant coach

The local football governing body has provided a new twist concerning the composition of the national team’s technical bench

Safa has poured cold water on reports Molefi Ntseki is returning to the national team set-up as assistant coach to Hugo Broos.

After Broos was quoted as having told SAfmRadio that he is roping in Ntseki to be his second assistant coach, the local football mother body moved in to add a new twist to the development.

It had been widely-speculated that Ntseki was coming back to the national team fold, nearly two months after he was fired as Bafana head coach.

“Contrary to widespread news, Safa would like to clarify to all football fans that the association has not appointed any local assistant coach for Bafana Bafana,” Safa said in a statement.

“The name making headlines is not the association's position. The Safa NEC [national executive committee] will appoint a local assistant coach soon.”

Ntseki had previously served in the same role as Bafana assistant coach to Stuart Baxter, before being elevated to the head coach position following the Briton’s departure.

Broos already has Macedonian-Belgian Cedomir Janevski as his first assistant coach and he expressed his intention to have a local coach as part of his backroom staff.

"My local assistant coach is the former Bafana coach, Molefi Ntseki. I have met with him twice already and the man is an encyclopedia," Broos told SAfmRadio.

"He knows all the players here and he's happy to be assistant again. That's good to me because I asked him."

This comes after Broos disclosed that his first assistant will be Macedonian tactician Cedomir Janevski earlier this week.

"I asked Safa about a second assistant coach and they asked me what do you think about him [Ntseki] and I said if he's fine with being second again then I have no problems, and I met with him and he's a good football person," Broos continued.

"I can tell you that he's a football person and a good coach. He knows everything about the players and their backgrounds. I was impressed when I met him because he is a football person."

The anticipation to see who will come in as Bafana second assistant coach continues for now.

LIVE: Can Man United keep pace in race for second place?

The Nigeria international has spoken excitedly about the competition and looks forward to playing in the final against the Blues

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed how his dream of playing in the FA Cup final is fast becoming a reality.

The 24-year-old will be expected to feature for the Foxes when they take on Chelsea in the final of the competition on Saturday.

Iheanacho played a key role in helping Brendan Rodgers’ men reach the final of the tournament, scoring four goals, including his match-winning strike in the semi-finals of the FA Cup against Southampton.

The Nigeria international has revealed how he used to watch the competition as a kid and now looks forward to winning the trophy.

“I watched the FA Cup when I was little and now, I get the chance to play in the final. It’s really amazing, it’s a dream come true,” Iheanacho said, as per Leicester Mercury.

“I didn’t expect the goal to come like it did, but we are in the final now, we are really happy, but we need to get back, work hard and hopefully win the final.

“We did it together, we did it as a team. Without the team, we could not do it, it is not a one-man show.”

Iheanacho has forged a productive partnership with Jamie Vardy this season which has helped him to score 18 goals across all competitions.

The Super Eagles attacker hopes they can continue their fine understanding in the final of the FA Cup at Wembley.

“The partnership between me and Jamie is outstanding. His running off the ball is really good, he took the defenders on and cut it back,” he continued.

“He’s got the pace, he’s got everything, he’s a great player and hopefully we can work together to win the final.”

Iheanacho has been with the Foxes since the summer of 2017 when he teamed up with the side from Manchester City.

He had previously struggled to make much impact for the Foxes but this season he has started establishing himself at King Power Stadium.

Iheanacho’s form also contributed to Leicester’s current third spot on the Premier League table behind Manchester City and Manchester United.

The centre-forward will hope to add to his tally for the Foxes before the end of the 2020-21 season.
