SAFF Championship 2021: Oscar Bruzon to replace Jamie Day as Bangladesh coach

The Bashundhara Kings coach will lead the Bangladesh national team for a period of two months...

Oscar Bruzon is all set to lead the Bangladesh national football team as interim into the 2021 SAFF Championship to be held in Maldives in October.

According to a report in risingbd, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) national teams committee on Friday have decided to relieve English coach Jamie Day as Bangladesh coach for a period of two months and replace him with Bruzon.

With the SAFF Cup to kick off on October 1 with its final on October 16, Bruzon will be set for his first assignment with a national team as the Spaniard has previously coached Spain, India, Maldives and most recently with Bangladesh Premier League champions Bashundhara Kings.

Bangladesh are presently on a seven-game winless run and have lost their last two friendlies against Palestine (2-0) and Kyrgyz Republic (4-1) earlier in September. They are set to open their SAFF Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on October 1, before facing India, Maldives and Nepal in a round-robin format. The top two teams will advance to the final.

Under Day since August 2018, the Bengal Tigers managed a record of W9, D5, L15 in 29 games and were eliminated from the group stages of the 2018 SAFF Championship.

It must be noted that under Bruzon, the Kings scored as many as 68 goals in all competitions this season, before ATK Mohun Bagan piped them to a spot in the 2021 AFC Cup Inter-Zone play-off semi-finals from Group D.

'Turin is still in his heart' - Raiola claims Pogba could make sensational Juventus return

The Manchester United star was a leading figure for the Old Lady between 2012 and 2016

Mino Raiola has claimed his client Paul Pogba could make a sensational return to Juventus in the summer.

Pogba's contract with Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the season and the star midfielder has yet to agree terms on a new deal.

His agent said that he could return to Juve, where he starred between 2012 and 2016.

What was said?

“Paul Pogba is out of contract in June, so we’ll talk with Manchester and we’ll see what happens," Raiola told Rai Sport. "Turin is still in his heart. There’s a chance that Pogba will return to Juventus, but it also depends on Juventus.”

Pogba to leave Man Utd?

Pogba's agent has tipped his client to leave Old Trafford on several occasions, most notably in December 2020, when he said: "It’s over for Paul Pogba at Manchester United."

Raiola continued: "Paul is unhappy with Man Utd as he is no longer able to express himself in the way that he would like and as he is expected to. Paul needs a new team, a change of air."

Pogba's record-setting start to 2021-22

The France international has been in fine form to begin the current campaign, notching an impressive seven assists in United's first four league matches. That tally is the most any player has registered in the first four games of a Premier League season.

Wolfsburg forward Marmoush completes St. Pauli loan move

After a season of adaptation at St Mary’s, the Ghana defender is beginning to demonstrate his worth, to rave reviews and interest from abroad

Transfer interest from Barcelona is hardly the ringing endorsement it once was, with the Spanish giants in such an uncharacteristically weak position following a half-decade of financial mismanagement.

However, perhaps the biggest marker of how much Mohammed Salisu has come on since his move to Southampton in the summer of 2020 is the fact that the Catalan side, according to Los Fichajes, have earmarked him as a replacement for none other than Gerard Pique.

That’s the same Pique who, in the minds of many, is lined up for at least an ambassadorial role at the club on the basis of his commitment and quality of service over close to 15 years.

There may or may not be a lot to it, but it was not all that long ago that the Ghana international was struggling to even get going at St Mary’s.

Following his signing from Real Valladolid, the 22-year-old was made to wait six months to make his debut for the Saints, and a further nine days to earn a maiden Premier League start.

First a muscle injury kept him out until November, then he suffered a hamstring injury at the turn of the year.

These setbacks lent themselves to a deeply unsatisfactory first year in Southampton colours, and even as sightings of him became increasingly frequent, the presence of more established options meant he was often used out of position at left-back.

Through it all, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl maintained the club would benefit in the long run from taking a slow, methodical approach to Salisu’s recovery and integration.

“He is still learning what we want to do here,” he told the Daily Echo last November. “It’s not so easy – the way we defend, it’s a little bit different, more ball-orientated, but I am very happy he’s here.

"He’s a long-term project and I am sure that he will play a lot of games for us.”

The Austrian manager has been proven right, albeit possibly in a shorter frame of time than he envisaged at the time.

In four matches this season, Salisu has shone; restored to his natural centre-back position, he was voted Man of the Match in the Saints’ recent draw against Newcastle United, and this past weekend he received acclaim for shackling the ebullient Michail Antonio, no easy feat considering the form in which the ebullient West Ham United striker has started the season.

“They didn’t give [West Ham] time, and Salisu and Stephens really had it locked off with the way they were defending,” Arsenal legend Ian Wright gushed to the BBC after the goalless draw. “Antonio, we have seen all season so far, he has been roughing people up, but on this occasion, I thought they both dealt with him very well, they were just very good, very solid, in the right place and making clearances.”

It is an excellence that has sprung up out of necessity.

Denmark’s remarkable run to the semi-finals of the summer’s European Championship had the added effect of burnishing the reputation of Jannik Vestergaard. It therefore came as little surprise when Leicester, in need of a reliable centre-back in light of Johnny Evans waning health, swooped for the giant Dane on the eve of the new season.

Not a surprise, but losing a senior defender certainly had the potential to throw a spanner in Southampton’s works.

Thankfully, being forced to rely on Salisu on a weekly basis has done the Saints’ prospects no real harm, and the Ghanaian has risen to the challenge, bringing his physicality and dynamism to bear in a way that allows Hasenhuttl’s side to defend even higher up the pitch.

“On a man, Salisu is very strong,” the Austrian marvelled. “In the duels, he is very nasty because he is on them—that is his game.”

The other aspects – ability in possession, for example – are still being tailored, as Hasenhuttl readily admitted.

“He still needs to improve with the ball, I think. He is not a Vestergaard yet. We are growing slowly this way. This is not something you learn in one day. We are forcing him to play with the ball, not something he has done that often in his career.”

Even with Barcelona’s identity in question like never before, the principle of building play from the back and through the thirds remain dogma at Camp Nou.

If the links to Catalonia are true, one would expect they will be watching keenly to see how aptly Salisu picks up the possession game.

However, to look at his growth in those terms would risk missing out on what he is doing right now.

There are not many in his position holding their own in the Premier League at a similar age, and doing so while defusing some of the division’s most feared strikers.

It marks the Ghanaian out as a truly special talent, Barcelona or no.

Pep Guardiola makes Newcastle Premier League title admission

The former England captain, along with Jorge and Jose Mas, has taken on greater control and remains "more committed than ever"

Manchester United legend David Beckham has increased his stake in Inter Miami, with the former England captain saying he is "more committed than ever" to the MLS franchise.

Beckham is a co-owner of the Florida-based outfit but, along with Mas brothers Jorge and Jose, has taken on even greater control after finalising the buyout of Marcelo Claure and Masayoshi Son.

Inter Miami have also announced that Ares Management has "joined the club as a preferred equity investor".

What has been said?

Beckham told the club's official website: "We are immensely proud of the progress we’ve made over the past year and a half in Major League Soccer, and we are grateful to have had Marcelo and Masayoshi with us for the first part of our journey.

"I am more committed than ever to working with my partners and friends Jorge and Jose to build a lasting legacy, developing youth players from our academy, competing for championships regularly, and most importantly, rooting ourselves into the DNA of our community and South Florida."

Jorge Mas, who is CEO and managing owner at the DRV PNK Stadium, added on changes behind the scenes: "This is an important milestone for Inter Miami, and we thank Marcelo and Masayoshi for believing in bringing a team to South Florida.

"As we look toward the future, these ownership changes underscore mine, my brother Jose’s and David’s deep belief and commitment to the success of our football club.

"On the field, we firmly believe we are building the right culture and processes to lift trophies, and off the field, we will continue to harness the power of football to do positive things through our partnerships and our community efforts. We look forward to welcoming Ares as a strategic investor and together grow Inter Miami."

How are Inter Miami getting on in 2021?

Despite ambitious plans on and off the field, Inter Miami got off to a slow start in 2021.

Pressure began to build on manager Phil Neville as a result, with the ex-Manchester United and England star seeing questions asked of his ongoing presence.

However, a six-game unbeaten run is being enjoyed at present - while only one defeat has been suffered since a humbling 5-0 reversal against New England Revolution on July 22.

Inter Miami are now up to eighth in the Eastern Conference, one place and one point outside the play-offs.

UCL clash between Lyon and PSG postponed

The Blues boss remains optimistic when it comes to agreeing fresh terms with a Germany international attracting admiring glances from afar

Thomas Tuchel remains optimistic regarding Chelsea's chances of tying Antonio Rudiger to a new contract, with extension talks ongoing with the commanding Germany international defender.

Goal can confirm that the 28-year-old centre-half, who is in the final year of his current deal at Stamford Bridge, is attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

They are closely monitoring a situation that could end in free agency, but those in west London are doing all they can to ensure that the Champions League winner is not allowed to slip through their net.

What has been said?

Asked for an update on Rudiger's situation ahead of a Premier League derby date with Tottenham on Sunday, Tuchel told reporters: "I hope that they find solutions, but it's not only between coaches and players, and what we wish for. And that's why it's between the club, the players and the agent at the moment.

"We hope that they find the solution and everything I can say, he plays excellent, and since a long time very consistent, on a very high level.

"I see him very calm and focused, and it's not a distraction for him. So everything is in place, and give things the time they need. Sometimes it needs a bit longer, sometimes things are very fast.

"There's no news from my side, and I think that Toni feels very, very good at Chelsea, he feels very respected by his team-mates and he feels the importance that he has in the team and in the squad. That's well deserved because he delivers, he feels the love from the supporters when he plays.

"He's in the strongest league in Europe, in a big club, so not many reasons to change that. But in the end it's between him and the club, and that's in good hands. I am calm and relaxed, whatever has to happen will happen."

Why do Chelsea want to keep Rudiger?

Tuchel has stated on a regular basis that he would like to see a fellow countryman commit to fresh terms.

That is because Rudiger has become an integral part of his plans since another managerial change was made at Chelsea back in January.

Tuchel took the reins from Frank Lampard and quickly identified Rudiger as a player that would help him to deliver on great expectations.

A man that has been in English football since the summer of 2017 is now up to 155 appearances for the Blues and has been an ever-present through six fixtures in all competitions this season.

Chelsea, who sit joint-top of the Premier League table at present with 10 points taken from four games, are also hoping that a new deal will soon be announced for Rudiger's fellow centre-half Andreas Christensen.

Bayern Munich midfielder Coman underwent surgery because of a heart problem, reveals Nagelsmann

The winger had to have an operation for a "minor cardiac arrhythmia" said his manager, but says he should be back in a couple of weeks

Bayern Munich midfielder Kingsley Coman has had to undergo minor heart surgery, Julian Nagelsmann has said.

France international Coman was discovered to have a small disturbance in his heartbeat which was affecting his breathing, the Bayern manager revealed, meaning he had to go under the knife. However, the Bayern coach insisted that the operation is a relatively minor procedure.

Coman is therefore expected to return to full training in a couple of weeks, but will certainly miss the Bundesliga club's next few matches.

What has been said?

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Bayern Munich's Bundesliga clash with Bochum this weekend, Nagelsmann revealed: "'King' had an operation yesterday, he had a minor heart rhythm disturbance. I'll explain that with my little medical expertise.

"There are two strands that activate the sinus node. One of them was cut off so that there would be no additional blow. Sometimes he had less air for a short time and was less productive. That's why we did a long-term ECG (electrocardiogram) and found something that could be fixed quickly.

"He'll start cardio on Tuesday. It won't take much longer than a week and a half or two before he's back in team training."

Is Coman's heart issue a serious problem?

While the news that Coman has had heart surgery sounds dramatic, Nagelsmann moved to soothe concerns.

He said: "It sounds much more dramatic than it is. He is doing very well, he has minimal wound pain.

"It's not so blatant, several people have that, but it makes a difference whether my greatest effort is to go to the refrigerator and get a cool light beer - or whether I'm a competitive athlete."

Which games will Coman miss?

Coman is out of the game against Bochum, and will also be unavailable for the trip to Greunther Furth on September 24.

Bayern will hope Coman is fit for their next Champions League fixture, at home to Dynamo Kiev on September 29, but a more likely target may be hosting Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on October 3 - or potentially returning after the international break which will follow.

Durand Cup 2021: FC Goa finish Group B atop, Army Green progress

Goa's Muhammed Nemil has now scored three goals in three games...

Former champions Army Green have joined FC Goa in the quarterfinals from Group B of the ongoing 2021 Durand Cup in Kolkata.

The Gaurs' 5-0 win over Jamshedpur meant the end of the latter's Durand Cup campaign, while Army Green downed Sudeva Delhi 1-0.

Army Green through to the quarters

Army Green rode on a solitary striker by Deepak Singh (51') to beat Sudeva Delhi at the Mohun Bagan ground in Kolkata, on Friday.

The Greens had their first chance in the ninth minute, but Lallawmkima's header was blocked by Sudeva goalkeeper Sachin Jha, who also kept out the shot off the rebound by Shubham Rana. Jha kept the I-League outfit in the game for as long as he could, with a few more saves through the half.

Sudeva would also have themselves to blame for not taking the lead as William Pauliankhum failed to make the best of his opportunity from close range in the first minute of the second half.

With an inch perfect pass by Dip Mazumdar for the eventual winner, it was up to Deepak to guide the ball past Jha in the 51st minute.

FC Goa steamroll Jamshedpur FC

FC Goa dismantled Jamshedpur FC 5-0 at the Salt Lake stadium, on Friday, to finish as Group B leaders, having scored nine and conceded just once in the group games.

Devendra Murgaokar (20', 44') and Muhammed Nemil (46', 81') contributed with a brace each, with Princeton Rebello (26') also on target.

Brandon Fernandes' corner was met by a free-header by Murgaokar to put the Goans ahead, only minutes before Rebello doubled the lead from close range. The half was wrapped up with another strike by Murgaokar who was at hand to tap in the rebound of the save off Brandon's shot at goal.

With a three-goal lead at the break, Nemil applied the finishing touch after Alberto Noguera did all the spade work.

Towards the end of regulation time, the 19-year-old turned up once again, with another stunning goal from distance after the curler against Sudeva in the last game.

FIFA 22 ratings: Goretzka sets record as Bayern Munich star becomes first player with card with over 80 in all categories

The Germany midfielder, who extended his contract this week, has made history in the popular video game series

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has made history with his high ratings in FIFA 22, the latest edition of the popular video game franchise.

The 26-year-old's card in the game has ratings of over 80 in all six categories - pace, dribbling, shooting, defending, passing and physicality.

With an overall rating of 87, it makes Goretzka the first player ever to have stats of 80 or more in every single category on a gold player card.

How does Goretzka rate?

While there are several players in the game with a higher overall rating, none are as well rounded as Goretzka. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, for example, are overall rated at more than 90, however both only having ranks of 34 in the defending category.

Gortezka meanwhile scores highly in every category. His highest stat is 86 for physicality, followed by 84 for his dribbling ability, 82 in both shooting and passing, while he has got 81 for both his pace and defending.

His overall rating of 87 is also his best ever in FIFA, and is up three points from his rank in the 2021 version of the game.

A good week for Goretzka

The news of his excellent FIFA stats is another boost for Goretzka, who this week signed a new contract with Bayern Munich to end speculation linking him with a transfer to Manchester United.

The Germany international has agreed a new five-year deal with the Bundesliga champions until 2026, with his old contract due to expire at the end of the season.

With minor details having been ironed out following talks in the last few weeks, Goretzka has signed a deal expected to be worth between €12 million and €15m (£13m/$18m) a year

Goretzka joined Bayern from Schalke in 2018 and has won the Bundesliga title three times, the DFB-Pokal twice, the DFL Supercup three times and the Champions League in 2020, as well as the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. He has scored 25 goals in 118 competitive games for the Bavarians and has earned 38 caps for Germany.

Guardiola refuses to apologise after clarifying comments over Man City crowd

The Catalan coach came under fire after appearing to be critical of supporters following the Champions League victory over RB Leipzig

Pep Guardiola says he will not apologise for comments about Manchester City fans and believes his words have been misinterpreted.

After the 6-3 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, the City boss said that he "would like more people" on Saturday for the Premier League clash with Southampton.

His comments resulted in a backlash from some supporters who felt he was being critical after a crowd of 38,062 at the 53,500-capacity Etihad Stadium watched the game against the German side, with the away section empty except for a handful of fans.

What's been said?

"Did I say after the game against Leipzig that I was disappointed that the stadium was not full?" Guardiola told a news conference. "An interpretation is an interpretation, I am not going to apologise for what I said. I don't say anything wrong, I'm surprised about what happened about this.

"It's not the first time I said in my career, I said at Barcelona and Bayern [Munich], when we played a tough game like in the Champions League  knowing that three days with a lack of preparation when Southampton had all week to prepare and how difficult it will be, I made an approach to do something together again the next Saturday at 3pm.

"What I said is I would love [it], we need the support, it doesn't matter how many people come but I invite them to come and enjoy the game cause we need their support. If after five seasons, people can't understand my behaviour, it's because they want to misunderstand what I said."

The bigger picture

Manchester City official supporters' club secretary Kevin Parker told Goal ahead of the game some of the reasons why the Champions League matches were unlikely to be sell-outs.

Among the reasons were the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, concerns around safety with the virus still prevalent and a smaller pool of "one-off" supporters willing to take up vacant tickets.

City averaged 54,130 during the 2018-19 Premier League season before the pandemic struck and around 52,000 attended each of their opening two matches in the Premier League this year.

"I always say if guys want to come we will be incredibly happy because I know how difficult the game will be and I prefer to be with my people, but if they don't come for any reason, it's perfect," Guardiola added.

"I never sit here and ask why didn't you come? If you don't come then don't. Mr Parker should review his comments, especially after the game, but I will never apologise to him, absolutely not."

FKF in dilemma as Harambee Stars could play Mali in neutral venue

The African body has given the local federation until the end of September 17 to submit a report on Nyayo after that of Kasarani one was dismissed

Kenya will play their next 2022 World Cup qualifying home match against Mali outside the country, Goal can exclusively.

This is after the Confederation of African Football wrote to the Football Kenya Federation confirming the team will not be allowed to use Kasarani Stadium because it is not meeting the required standards.

In a letter from Caf sent to the federation titled ‘Last Request’ and obtained by Goal, the African body has now threatened to fix their next match against Mali at their opponents' venue.

What did Caf statement say?

‘As per your video report sent, in addition to the poor technical benches, the pitch of Moi International Sports Center Kasarani is not up to the required standard for a Fifa/Caf A match, therefore Caf cannot approve such venue for the Fifa Qualifiers [October window] based on the current status,” read part of the statement seen by Goal.

“Caf’s decision is based on the current status of the pitch as of today [Friday] and not based on improvements to be made. Kindly note that this decision is final.

“You are, therefore, requested to send a report of Nyayo Stadium [including photos and videos of the pitch] latest by today, Friday, September 17 by 1400hrs [Nairobi time].

“In case your federation fails to provide the report, Caf will immediately fix the venue of your upcoming home Fifa World Cup Qualifier match in your opponents’ venue.”

Efforts to reach FKF officials for a comment on the matter proved futile as our calls went unanswered.

Kenya are in Group E of the qualifiers and during their opening match against Uganda, they used Nyayo Stadium in the match that ended 0-0 before they travelled to Kigali, where they also battled to a 1-1 draw against Rwanda.

The latest decision comes just two days after coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee parted ways with the federation with his assistants Ken Odhiambo and William Muluya taking charge of the team on a temporary basis.

Kenya are currently lying second on two points from two matches while Mali are topping the group with four points from two matches and Uganda are third on two points and Rwanda are last with a single point.

Juventus finalise Filip Kostic signing

The Super Eagle grabbed a brace to help the Serie A side claim a point away in a European assignment

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has lauded Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen who scored a brace in Napoli's 2-2 draw in the Europa League assignment on Thursday.

Harvey Barness assisted Perez Ayoze in the ninth minute to send the home fans at Liberty Stadium to a frenzy. Patson Daka was denied by VAR in the 59th minute. But five minutes later, Barnes scored after Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho found him in the danger zone following a swift counter-attack.

Super Eagle Osimhen pulled one back in the 69th minute for the Serie A heavyweights after converting a Fabian Ruiz pass, before completing his brace with three minutes to go. Matteo Politano was the provider.

"We had some [Leicester] players getting their first 90 minutes of the season as well, and then obviously, their big striker [Osimhen], who is £70-odd-million, so you can see his quality, and he gets his two goals," Rodgers told the club's official portal .

The tactician was also impressed by Zambia international Patson Daka who was impressive as well as Boubakary Soumare.

"I thought [Soumare] was excellent in the game. He had a little spell at the beginning of the second half," Rodgers continued.

"He looked a little leggy, but then he’d done one or two pieces of skill and came back into the game. He was good. That was his first 70 minutes, so I am delighted with that.

"[Daka] is always a goal threat. [I am] disappointed that he could not get the goal, because it was a great finish, but players are young [and still] learning at their level, and how we work, and I am sure they will prove to be very, very good players this season."

The manager went on to reveal what he told the players.

"I said to the players afterwards, there were so many good things in the game, but we’ve got to keep the ball better because by the end when you don’t have the ball so much and you’re chasing the game, you can tire that little bit."

"Overall, if you can’t win it, even though we were in a good position, you make sure you don’t lose it and the point is a start for us. Now, we have got another nine [points] or 10 to go."

Napoli and Leicester are now joint second with a point in Group B. Legia Warsaw, who defeated Spartak Moscow by a solitary goal, are at the summit.

'Keita can't go anywhere until January' - Liverpool midfielder may be happy with fringe role, says Barnes

The Reds legend admits that the Guinea international is down the pecking order at Anfield, but that is no guarantee that he will look to move on

Naby Keita is down the pecking order at Liverpool, admits John Barnes, but a Reds legend feels a player that "can't go anywhere until January" may be happy to fill a squad role at Anfield.

Much more was expected of the Guinea international when, at the end of a protracted transfer saga, he completed a big-money transfer to Merseyside in the summer of 2018.

Keita has been part of Champions League and Premier League title-winning sides, but struggles for form and fitness have seen him take in just 80 appearances and led to inevitable exit talk being sparked.

What has been said?

Speaking in association with BonusCodeBets, Barnes  told Goal when asked if Keita - who is under contract until 2023 - has a long-term future at Liverpool: "He hasn’t played many games since he joined but he’s been cursed with injuries.

"He has a future at the club, but I don't know whether it's going to be long term.

"Players don't think long term, they think about whether they can get into the team this season, and obviously, he might think that he's down the pecking order but he's at the club, and he can't go anywhere until January.

"Whether he has a long-term future at the club is up to him. He has a contract, and if he's happy not to be playing every week, that’s his choice.

"It’s the same for every player, if they're not playing, they're unhappy so therefore they want to go to play more regularly, but we've seen players that stay at a club for four or five years without playing regularly so maybe Keita is one of them.

"But if you pick your best Liverpool team, Naby Keita wouldn’t be in it."

Does Keita have a role at Liverpool?

The 26-year-old has taken in four appearances for the Reds this season, with three of those outings coming as a starter.

Jurgen Klopp is giving Keita opportunities to prove his worth, but Liverpool are well-stocked for central midfielders and competition for places is fierce.

The likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Curtis Jones are all looking for minutes in that area of the field.

Keita will need to raise his game in order to nail down a regular role, while steering clear of the injury struggles that have held him back at times, and it remains to be seen whether fresh terms will be put to him as part of a productive run for Liverpool on the contract extension front.

Can the Blues extend their winning record away from home against Spurs?

Phil Collins' 'Who Said I Would' returned as PSG's entrance music after DJ Snake controversy

Supporters were unhappy with changes to the pre-match rituals at Parc des Princes, with the club anthem now set to be played once again

Paris Saint-Germain have bowed to pressure from their fans and returned a Phil Collins song as the entrance music for their players at Parc des Princes, after it was controversially replaced last month.

PSG made their first change to pre-match entrance music since 1992, replacing the track 'Who Said I Would' by the Genesis drummer with a song from Parisian artist DJ Snake.

The change did not go down well with supporters, however, and the club have now agreed to bring back Collins and explore other areas in which they can promote modern Parisian life through the club.

What has been said?

PSG announced on Twitter: "Faced with the emotion aroused by the change in the entrance music of the players, Phil Collins returns to the Parc on Sunday. At the same time, discussions continue with many artists to strengthen our identity with an ambitious, contemporary and Parisian sound."

Why the controversy?

'Who Said I Would' has been PSG's entrance music at Parc des Princes for 29 years, with only a brief change made to 'O City of Light' in the wake of the Paris bomb attacks in 2015.

Supporters have grown attached to the tune, and eyebrows were raised when a different track was played ahead of the first home game of the season against Strasbourg on August 14. Rather than the familiar sounds of Collins ringing out in the French capital, PSG took to the field with 'DJ Snake intro mixed' blasting through the PA system.

The club's director of diversification Fabien Allegre told Le Parisien: "It was not a mistake. We are very attached to this song [the Collins track], I hear it, and our will is not to eliminate it from all our matches.

"Why couldn't we have Go West [by the Pet Shop Boys] or the Phil Collins song when the players arrive for the warm-up? I got a lot of positive feedback from people who enjoyed the song."

However the Collins classic has now been restored, meaning that in a year of great change at PSG - most notably with the signing of Lionel Messi - some things are very much staying the same.
