Kaizer Chiefs coach Hunt: Even Barcelona would struggle in Africa

The Glamour Boys will book their spot in the Caf CL last eight with either a score draw or a victory away to Horoya FC this Saturday evening

Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has voiced his frustration over a perceived gamesmanship in African club competitions.

Hunt was referencing his side's latest match in the Caf Champions League, a 1-0 win over Wydad Casablanca at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

The only goal of a tight game against the 2017 Champions League winners came from Bernard Parker, four minutes after the interval.

With no television commentary of the match, one could clearly hear a lot of the chirping and needle which seemingly came from the Moroccan side, in the coverage which was shown online.

Chiefs were also to have two players sent off - goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was red-carded by Egyptian referee Ibrahim Nour El Din for a handball outside his area five minutes before half time, while Samir Nurkovic received a second yellow card in the 89th minute and was also dismissed.

Replays suggested though that his second booking was harsh and it looked as if Wydad defender Amine Farhane made the most of the situation.

“I don’t want to say how the red card came about, but it’s very disappointing,” Hunt was quoted saying by the Sowetan, regarding Nurkovic's dismissal.

“But, you know, when you play in Caf you’ve got to be strong, and when you go away you’re going to get more of that.

“It was very disappointing how he got a red card because I think you’ve got to be honest in a game, and there was a lot of dishonesty there. And that’s disappointing," the Amakhosi mentor continued.

"I don’t want to go there. It’s crazy. It’s just part and parcel. I’ve always said even Barcelona would struggle in Africa, because it’s tough.”

Hunt also has vast experience in African competition from previous coaching spells with Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United.

For now, Chiefs will turn their attention back to their domestic duties - they host Stellenbosch FC at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening in a league encounter.

'Neymar threw tape in my face!' - PSG star 'needs to have more respect', says Lille's Djalo

The Portuguese has opened up on his altercation with the Brazilian at Parc des Princes at the weekend

Neymar "needs to have more respect" on the pitch, according to Lille's Tiago Djalo, who has claimed that the Paris Saint-Germain star "threw tape" in his face.

Lille moved three points clear at the top of Ligue 1 by beating PSG 1-0 at Parc des Princes on Saturday, with Jonathan David grabbing the decisive goal for the visitors.

Neymar and Djalo were both shown second yellow cards after coming together late on , and the defender has now opened up on the heated exchange between the pair that followed as they made their way down the tunnel.

What's been said?

Djalo told  A Bola : “In the dressing room tunnel, he said things to me that I ignored. He even threw tape [that is wrapped around players' ankles] in my face.

"What did he say? I don't know, but they weren't good things. It is part of the game, but it is what Neymar lacks, a little more respect. Neymar needs to have more respect.

"The media? They have a share of responsibility. They always end up favouring the most media-friendly players, who end up by being more protected."

Neymar & Djalo both see red

As PSG frantically chased an equaliser against Lille, Neymar and Djalo both raced to pick up a loose ball on the far left touchline before it ultimately ran out of play.

Neymar appeared to push his opponent to the ground as they went shoulder to shoulder, leaving the referee with no choice but to send him off for a second bookable offence.

Djalo was also dismissed for aiming a foul-mouth rant at the Brazilian, and both men will now face at least a one-match ban for their ill-discipline.

Tunnel altercation

Neymar and Djalo continued to remonstrate with each other as they made their way off the pitch and officials from both clubs followed, which only served to raise the hostility levels between the duo.

Cameras picked up Neymar trying to shove the Lille centre-back en route to the dressing room, which prompted him to try and square up to the 29-year-old, only for a number of staff members to intervene and prevent a potential brawl from breaking out.

Neymar lets PSG down

Neymar's angry outburst capped a forgettable afternoon for the PSG talisman, who was unable to affect the game in any meaningful way after being deployed in a number 10 role.

Mauricio Pochettino's side now only have seven games left to rein in Lille, starting with a trip to Strasbourg at the weekend, which Neymar will not be eligible to play.

The Brazil international has already missed a number of important games due to injury, and must now wait to see if any further punishment awaits for his clash with Djalo in the coming days.

Uganda Cup: Express FC have rectified mistakes ahead of Kyetume FC clash – Bbosa

The veteran Ugandan tactician remains confident of a positive start in their domestic cup campaign as they chase for a double

Express FC coach Wasswa Bbosa has stated they have rectified mistakes in the final third as they take on Kyetume FC in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash in the Uganda Cup on Tuesday.

The Red Eagles will travel away to face their fellow Ugandan Premier League side at Fufa Technical Training Centre in Njeru, seeking to draw first blood in the fixture.

Express opened their campaign in the second round of the league with a resounding 3-1 win over table-toppers URA FC at Wankulukulu Stadium last Saturday, but they will have to put up a fight against a side that held them to a 0-0 draw in their first-round meeting in the top-tier to earn the advantage heading into the second leg.

Coach Bbosa has admitted during their first meeting in the league, his charges struggled to use chances they had created but said they had worked on the problem and were ready for the match, as their target this season is to win both the league and the domestic cup.

“We’ve prepared well coming into this next game, the league win over URA gave us a boost but now next up is a knock-out competition [Uganda Cup,” Bbosa told the club’s official website.

“We face Kyetume whom we faced in the first round of the league but we shared a point in a 0-0 draw, we created chances which we didn’t convert so concentration has been on the final third, the players know we have to compete in both competitions [domestic cup and league] to help the club win silverware.”

On his part, midfielder John Byamukama explained they are ready to step up their game against the side which denied them maximum points when they faced off in the first round.

“First of all, we’re happy we picked our first win at home in our last league game but now our focus is on tomorrow’s [Tuesday’s] game against Kyetume,” Byamukama told the same portal.

“We faced them in the first round so we know how to handle them, the players are ready to step up from the start and our main target is to win the Uganda Cup and we hope to achieve it.”

Bbosa will welcome back centre-back Murushid Juuko, who is available for selection since his suspension only affects league games while midfielder Abel Etrude remains in the sickbay along with Arthur Kiggundu and forward George Senkaaba.

Express and Kyetume will be meeting for the first time in the history of the domestic Cup with the Red Eagles last winning the competition in 2007 while the hosts have never won it nor reached the final in their history.

Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the domestic cup will be played on a home and away basis save for the final, meaning Express host Kyetume in the return leg on April 10.

Kenya’s Timbe reveals Olunga's contribution in transfer to Vissel Kobe

The speedy winger explains how the towering Harambee Stars forward played a huge role in him signing for the Japanese club

Kenya winger Ayub Timbe has explained how striker Michael Olunga played a hand in his transfer to Vissel Kobe in Japan.

The speedy winger was without a club since mid-October 2020 after he parted ways with Beijing Renhe, but he was officially unveiled by the Japanese top-flight side that is captained by Andres Iniesta on March 1, 2021, though the two parties did not give details of the contract signed.

Speaking during a one-on-one interview, Timbe, who also played for EFL Championship side Reading on loan from Renhe, has revealed he spoke to Olunga about his potential move to Japan, and the towering striker gave him the go-ahead to sign the deal.

“When I was in China I remember watching some of the Vissel Kobe games, there is one game I was so impressed about the team and since then I said to myself Kobe is really a good team and then you guys had Iniesta, you also had Lukas [Podolski], and I was always having this feeling it is a good club,” Timbe said during the one-on-one interview recorded by Kobe Online TV.

“I also remember talking to my colleague Michael [Olunga] while on national team duty and he was like if you really want to go to Japan and you want a good team, it is Vissel Kobe, it is one of the best teams, like in everything, in the players, in the facilities just everything, so I just had a good feeling with the club before I even I joined.”

Timbe continued: “Almost everywhere, like when I was in Belgium and also England and when I was in Kenya, if you ask anyone do you know any club in Japan, they will say Vissel [Kobe], everyone and for me, it was easy to pick the team when they came for my services.”

On what to expect from the new challenge, Timbe said: “It is a new league for me, and it is very a good league with a lot of quality players and I think it is one of the leagues in Asia which is very appreciated, with good quality players and pitches so it is a good which is going to even more up and, and up.”

Olunga left a mark in Japan while playing for Kashiwa Reysol after he won the Golden Boot in the 2020 J1 League season after netting 28 goals in 32 games, and went ahead to lift the Most Valuable Player award, becoming the first African to do so in Japan.

The former Gor Mahia, Thika United, and Tusker forward has since left for Al Duhail SC of Qatar and his performances in the Far East are expected to place considerable pressure on Timbe.

On whether he is among the fastest players in the world, Timbe explained: “How fast I can run? Do you know actually I get this question almost everywhere I go, the national team when I was at Reading when I was at Beijing when I was at Genk but I don’t really know?

“But I really want to do a test to really know how quick I am, but I think I am really fast when I am good on my condition, I am pretty fast but I don’t know how fast I am, I really want to do a test.

“I really hope one day I will break the record of the fastest football player in the world.”

Timbe will also play alongside former Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.

Elmusrati scores as SC Braga defeat Djalma’s Farense

The Libya international was on target as Carlos Carvalhal’s men recorded an away win against the Lions of Faro

Ali Elmusrati was on target as SC Braga secured a 2-1 away victory over Farense in Monday’s Primeira Liga encounter.

Following their 2-0 home defeat to Benfica before the international break, the Archbishops went to the Estadio de Sao Luis, saw, and left with all points at stake.

Both teams adopted a cautious approach from the blast of Rui Costa’s whistle while trying to rely on counter-attacks. Although the visitors had few chances which they could not bury past the goalkeeper.

However, their moment of breakthrough came in the 29th minute as Elmusrati was in the right position to head Joao Novais’ cross past goalkeeper Beto.

That goal was an eye-opener for the hosts who fought like a wounded animal to level matter in the 34th minute through Pedro Henrique – with Ryan Gauld providing the assist.

With no goals in the remaining 11 minutes, both teams went into the half time break all squared.

In the second 45 minutes, Jorge Costa’s Farense came out blazing, albeit, they were unable to match the visitors who dominated ball possession.

While it was looking like the encounter would end in a draw, super-sub Andraz Sporar condemned the Lions of Faro to defeat with his last-gasp effort.

Libya’s Elmusrati was in action from start to finish against Farense, whereas, the hosts did not feature their Angolan duo of Djalma and Hugo Marques as well as Guinea Bissau star, Bura.

In his post-match assessment, manager Carlos Carvalhal opened up that his team profited from a ‘dose of luck’.

"We won but with a dose of luck that earned us the victory,” Carvalhal told the club website.

“Luck is sought, and we believed until the last second we could score. In the final phase of the second half, we had a hard time.

“We ended up having happiness and it was a hard blow for Farense, who did a lot to win the game.

“We also had a high-level first half and we deserved to be ahead. Our fight is to earn the points and look at the games and not the destination. We've been second and now we're fourth.”

As a result of this win, Braga climbed to fourth in the Primeira Liga log having accrued 53 points from 25 outings, while Farense languish in the relegation zone with just 22 points from the same number of outings.

Maguire would be a bigger loss to England than Kane - Neville

The former England international selected his Three Lions squad and talked up the Manchester United defender

Gary Neville has claimed losing Harry Maguire would be a bigger handicap to England’s Euro 2020 hopes than if Harry Kane were to miss out.

England boss Gareth Southgate has had his final chance to look at players in international action before narrowing his squad down for this summer’s tournament.

Neville was offering up his thoughts on the squad, and suggested England could not do without Manchester United defender Maguire.

What has been said?

Neville conceded Tottenham star Kane is the best player in the squad, but not the most important to England’s hopes of glory.

“I always imagine losing a player,” Neville said on Sky Sports. “So you lose Harry Maguire. That is a big problem for Gareth Southgate. I think it is his biggest problem.”

Elaborating on his thinking, Neville added: “If you've then got John Stones as your other centre-back... Think if you’ve got Stones and [Tyrone] Mings, Stones and [Conor] Coady, Stones and [Eric] Dier. I am not having it.”

Asked specifically if he believed Maguire was a bigger loss than Kane, Neville replied: “Yes I do.

“For this squad, yes. Harry Kane is the best player in the squad, but if Gareth wants to have a back four and go 4-3-3, the only chance of that is keeping Harry Maguire fit.

“We’ve seen Coady in a back four tonight. Mings in a back four, I like him but I don’t think he can play in a back four at the level we are talking about in terms of winning the tournament.”

The Kane conundrum

Kane has had ankle problems for spells of his career, and had an issue earlier this term.

Neville feels England would have options to tinker with formations and personnel were Kane to succumb to injury.

“I do think there is a problem if Harry Kane gets injured,” he said. “But you could go with [Marcus] Rashford, [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin, [Raheem] Sterling as a false forward, [Phil] Foden. There are options that England could [use and] still win games.

"But with Harry Maguire injured, I think the ability to go to a back four is lost.”

England’s Euro 2020 aims

England have been placed in Group D alongside Croatia, Scotland and Czech Republic.

Given the top two and the best four third-placed teams advance to the round of 16, failing to qualify for the knockout stages would be unthinkable.

Reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018 raised hope that England could end their long wait for a major trophy, but all four teams who advanced to the last four in Russia were European so the task won’t be easy.

With a crop of young stars emerging, the likelihood is that Southgate’s minimum aim is a place in the semi-finals.

'Who is the manager of Real Mallorca?' - Klopp not fussed on La Liga move ahead of Liverpool's clash with Real Madrid

The Reds boss joked with reporters when asked if he would regret it if he never got the chance to manage in La Liga

Jurgen Klopp insists he would have no regrets if he never got the chance to manage Real Madrid one day.

But the Liverpool boss does his have his eye on one Spanish club - Real Mallorca!

The Liverpool boss was asked by local reporters about the possibility of coaching in Spain ahead of the first leg of the Reds' Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

What's been said?

The 53-year-old took the question in good spirits. Later, he was asked which La Liga club would suit his coaching style best, again answering with a smile and a laugh.

Asked specifically about coaching Real Madrid, Klopp grinned: “Wow! If at the end of my career I had only three clubs, Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, then that’s not too bad, eh? I would not regret it.

“You asked if I would regret not managing Real Madrid, that is the question? I don’t think so. But when I came off the plane today, I regret already that we don’t live here, because the weather is so much better here! We were freezing, I have a gilet with me! You are blessed living here. We do it the hard way [in England]!”

So where do Real Mallorca come into it?

Klopp was then asked which of Spanish football's 'big three' - Real, Barcelona or Atletico Madrid - he would be best suited to.

He said: “Oh! I have to think! They are three good football clubs, hey? I would like to say I would fit to all of them! The only problem is I have no time and my Spanish is really bad. You would not enjoy having me in Spain speaking broken Spanish and always making this joke about ordering a beer. You cannot work with that!

“All the clubs here have great managers. Who is the manager of Real Mallorca? That would be nice….to live at least!”

Alonso confirms Kepa and Rudiger clash but says it is good for Chelsea

The defender and goalkeeper had to be pulled apart by team-mates a day after the loss to West Brom

Marcos Alonso has insisted the training ground bust-up between Antonio Rudiger and Kepa Arrizabalaga is good for Chelsea.

One day after the loss to West Brom on Saturday, Chelsea’s first defeat under Thomas Tuchel, Rudiger and Kepa had to be pulled apart by team-mates .

Rudiger was sent from the training pitch to cool off by Tuchel, while the defender later apologised for his part in the spat.

What has been said?

Alonso confirmed the altercation took place, but feels it demonstrates hunger in the squad and believes it will be a positive for the Blues.

“These are things that happen,” Alonso told beIN SPORTS . “It shows the level of competition that is in the team, the hunger we show even on the training ground and it is good for the team.”

Issue now in the past

Alonso confirmed the pair put the spat behind them before leaving the training ground, and says it is almost certain that team-mates will clash again in the future.

"Even before training finished it was all good,” he said. “Nothing new, it has always happened.

“It will happen again. We have to take the positive and move on and get ready for the next game.”

Up next for Chelsea

Defeat to West Brom dented Chelsea’s bid to secure a place in the top four in the Premier League, but their focus now shifts to the Champions League.

The Blues face Porto - conquerors of Juventus - in the first leg of their quarter-final on Wednesday.

Lingard on fire again as West Ham defeat Wolves

Thanks for joining us this evening. That is all from us folks, goodbye!

Wolves showed signs of their best football, but it was in patches, and they need to start producing it over 90 minutes. By the time they had clicked into gear, West Ham were three-nil up, and Wolves spent too long trying to chase the game. They will get the chance to make amends against Fulham at the weekend, while West Ham will tackle Leicester City at home on Sunday.

Tensions boil over at the full-time whistle as Lingard and Neto have to be separated, but West Ham's players can celebrate after a superb display away from home. The loanee opened the scoring inside the first half, before he then played a huge role in the second goal. Lingard's turn helped pick out Masuaku before his cross was converted by Fornals. Even though West Ham lost Antonio to injury, his replacement Bowen grabbed a third goal inside the first 45 minutes. Wolves gave themselves a chance when Dendoncker headed home before half-time, and Silva then stepped off the bench to make the game even tighter. However, Nuno's troops could not find the equaliser and West Ham move up to fourth after securing all three points.

90' + 5' FULL-TIME - WOLVES 2-3 WEST HAM.

90' + 5' West Ham clear the danger...the full-time whistle is surely seconds away!

90' + 4' Traore forces a mistake out of Diop and Wolves have a corner...

90' + 3' West Ham have so far wasted at least a minute of stoppage time by keeping the ball towards the corner flag.

89' Four minutes of stoppage time to come!

88' Wolves are not doing enough at the moment and they need to really find their groove if they want to rescue a point.

84' There are less than 10 minutes to go at Molineux, and West Ham are still doing enough to keep Wolves at bay. Moyes' men have not been as impressive in the second half, but time is running out for Nuno's side.

81' After receiving treatment, Soucek is back on the field, and he wants to carry on.

79' Moyes now has an injury to worry about as Soucek goes down holding his right ankle.

77' NETO! The Wolves ace tries his luck yet again from inside the penalty area, but he cannot get his bearings right, and he fires into the stands at Molineux.

74' That goal is Silva's first goal in ten matches for Wolves, with his previous effort coming against West Brom in January.

71' CHANCE!!! Dendoncker wastes a glorious opportunity to level matters, with the midfielder blasting over from inside the box.

65' OVER! Wolves win a free-kick, and rather than shooting; Neves picked out Neto on the edge of the box. The midfielder tried to loft the ball around the crowd of bodies, but he could not keep his shot under the crossbar.

61' Neto! The Wolves winger continues to zip around as he tries to grab a goal, but his left-footed strike was straight down the throat of Fabianski, and West Ham clear the danger.

59' DISALLOWED GOAL!!! West Ham fire home through Soucek, but the referee claims he handled the ball before beating Patricio. Bowen had forced a save out of the Portugal international, meaning the goal was gaping. Soucek pounced, but replays suggest he used his arm to bring the ball under control.

56' Dendoncker! The Wolves ace has already scored this evening, and he tries to double that tally. West Ham gave him too much space on the edge of the box, but he failed to capitalise, and it remains 1-3.

54' WIDE! West Ham go close to scoring their fourth goal this evening, but Bowen can only head Cresswell's cross wide of the target.

52' Silva has now been used as a sub on 18 occasions in the Premier League this season, five more than any other player.

50' With Silva now on, Wolves have changed their formation, and it may take West Ham some time to work them out.

48' The pace was frantic inside the first half, but West Ham could do with slowing things down. They do not want to give Wolves any more glorious opportunities, but the next 15 minutes could be crucial.

46' We are back underway!

If they can tighten up at the back, Wolves will feel they can still grab something from this game. Neves, Willian Jose and Traore have all gone close, but they just let themselves down at the back with some terrible defending. With Bowen and Lingard on the field, West Ham will always be dangerous on the counter, and the second half could be another cracker!

That was an incredible 45 minutes of football, and after four goals, we cannot ask for much more. Wolves were so poor defensively, and they were punished by Lingard and Fornals inside the first 15 minutes. Lingard played a huge role in Fornals' goal before then turning provider for Bowen, who replaced the injured Antonio. It was not perfect, though, from West Ham, who conceded late on as Dendoncker headed home from a Traore cross. Both teams have gone all out to score, West Ham have been clinical, but Nuno Espirito Santo's side gave themselves a lifeline at least.

45' + 3' HALF-TIME - WOLVES 1-3 WEST HAM.

45' Three minutes of stoppage time at the end of the first half...

40' WHAT A MISS! Wolves should have a goal back, but West Ham have Fabianski to thank, as well as a poor finish from Neto. Willian Jose saw his close-range effort saved by the West Ham stopper, but the rebound fell to Neto. The winger had the goal at his mercy, but he somehow fired wide, and it remains 0-3.

38' CHANCE! Wolves have not given up despite the slow start, and Traore forces a save out of Fabianski. The Spanish winger picked up the ball on the edge of the box before trying his luck, but his effort was too central, and the Hammers keeper dealt with it easily.

33' Antonio's night is over, much to his disappointment. The physio has clearly told the bench that he must come off, but Antonio was ready to go back on. Moyes is taking no chances, and Antonio has made his way down the tunnel.

31' Worryingly for West Ham, Antonio has stayed down after going for goal, and he is receiving treatment.

29' SIDE NETTING! Antonio fires another warning to Wolves as he dribbles his way into the box, but he fails to test Patricio, with his shot hitting the side of the net.

26' NETO! The Wolves winger screams in frustration as he heads past the near post. Neves' cross was played into his path perfectly, but Neto jumped a little early and could only head behind for a goal-kick.

23' Antonio wastes the chance to make it three after mistiming a header, and his poor touch allows Patricio to dive on the ball, and the scoreline remains 0-2.

20' Wolves appeal for a penalty as Traore goes down in the box, but VAR suggests Dawson got a touch to the ball, and the game is back underway.

18' OVER! Wolves try to respond from a corner, but Neves can only head the ball over at the back post.

12' Lingard now has six goals in his last eight Premier League appearances for West Ham. What a signing he has turned out to be!

8' WIDE! Ait Nouri tries his luck from inside the penalty area, and he is inches away from finding the bottom corner. The Wolves left-back was given too much space, but Fabianski was able to watch the ball sail past his far post.

5' Inside five minutes, we have had a big chance each and a yellow card. This could be a lively encounter!

4' SAVE!! West Ham respond immediately as Antonio lets fly and forces a save from Patricio in the Wolves goal. Antonio's shot was destined for the back of the net, but the Wolves keeper did enough to tip the ball onto the post.

3' CLOSE!! Willian Jose registers the first shot towards goal, and he is not too far away from scoring. The powerful striker received the ball in the box before finding space, but he failed to keep his right-footed shot on target.

1' We are underway at Molineux!

The two teams are out on the field and we are moments away from kick-off.

The home side will fancy their chances this evening, with Wolves losing just one of their last eight home league games against West Ham.

Midfielder Podence returns from injury as Wolves make three changes from their defeat to Liverpool. Ait-Nouri and Dendoncker also come into the starting XI. Moyes also makes three alterations to his side as Noble, Fornals, and Masuaku replace Benrahma, Bowen and the injured Declan Rice.

SUBS: Frederik Alves, Nathan Trott, Ben Johnson, Ryan Fredericks, David Martin, Fabian Balbuena, Jarrod Bowen, Ademipo Odubeko, Said Benrahma.

WEST HAM (4-2-3-1): Lukasz Fabianski; Vladimir Coufal, Craig Dawson, Issa Diop, Aaron Cresswell; Tomas Soucek, Mark Noble; Pablo Fornals, Jesse Lingard, Arthur Masuaku; Michail Antonio.

SUBS: Christian Marques, Lewis Richards, Fabio Silva, Morgan Gibbs-White, Vitinha, John Ruddy, Maximilian Kilman, Ki-Jana Hoever, Owen Otasowie.

WOLVES (3-4-2-1): Rui Patricio; Leander Dendoncker, Conor Coady, Romain Saiss; Nelson Semedo, Ruben Neves, Daniel Podence, Rayan Ait Nouri; Pedro Neto, Adama Traore; Willian Jose.

Wolves will be hoping to get back to winning ways at Molineux, with their last contest at home ending in a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool. The Hammers have struggled on their travels of late, losing three in a row in all competitions away from the London Stadium.

David Moyes' side can climb above Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea with a win, while Wolves could go as high as 12th if they get the job done. Wolves are without a win in four, while the Hammers have won one of their previous four matches.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Premier League contest between Wolves and West Ham. Fourteen points separate the two sides, with Wolves 14th, while the Hammers are seventh and looking to return to the top four this evening.

Joseph Aidoo: Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick responds to Ghana star's come-and-get-me plea

The Bavarians boss has reacted to the defender's desire to play for the German club

Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick reveals the club will consider a move for Ghana international Joseph Aidoo should he meet their quality requirement.

The Bavarians coach was speaking in reaction to recent remarks by the Celta Vigo defender who expressed a desire to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Samuel Osei Kuffour to play for the German giants.

Flick responded to the Ghanaian at a press conference.

"There are many players who would like to play for FC Bayern. If he has the appropriate aptitudes and qualities, then I do think that he would be considered," the Bavarian boss said, as reported by Sports 1.

Aidoo, who saw full-time action for Celta in a 3-1 Spanish La Liga triumph over Deportivo Alaves on Sunday, recently expressed a desire to wear the Bavarians jersey.

“I chose Sammy Kuffour as my mentor because for me, I think I will be playing for Bayern Munich in future and he has been there," the centre-back told Joy Sports.

"And that is why I am always looking up to him and he has made a good impact on the football world. When I was a kid, Bayern was the club that touched my heart and that is why I admire them.

“I do watch their [Bayern Munich] games and even sometimes I go to their website to watch some clips and stuff."

Aidoo, who played for Inter Allies during his time in Ghana, joined his current Spanish outfit from Belgian side Genk in a five-year deal in 2018.

In his first season, the 2019-20 term, he made 32 league appearances involving 27 starts as The Sky Blues just avoided relegation.

So far in this current campaign, the 25-year-old has played 20 times in La Liga, half of that number coming as starting appearances.

A full Ghana international, the defender made his first senior appearances in a friendly fixture against Mauritania in 2019, shortly before playing at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt that year.

Kuffour is one of the most decorated Ghanaian footballers of all time, his achievements include gold medals in the Champions League (2001) and the Fifa Club World Cup (2001).

The former defender also won the German Bundesliga title six times and the German Cup on four occasions.

At international level, the 2006 World Cup star helped Ghana win the 1991 Fifa U17 World Cup before helping the West Africans claim bronze at the Olympic Games the following year.

Everton’s Gbamin plays first Premier League game after 597 days

The Ivorian had been out of action owing to a long injury lay-off, however, he returned to action against Roy Hodgson's Eagles

Jean-Philippe Gbamin played his first Premier League game for Everton in 597 days against Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

The Cote d’Ivoire international came in for goalscorer James Rodriguez in the 79th minute as Carlos Ancelotti’s men played out a 1-1 draw with the visiting Eagles at Goodison Park.

With that, the 25-year-old has now played his first English top-flight game for the Toffees in over two years. That was his third league game since joining from the German Bundesliga in 2019.

He signed from Mainz on a five-year contract worth £25 million in the close season as Idrissa Gueye left for Paris Saint-Germain, and made just two appearances for the Toffees in August before sustaining a quadriceps injury in training.

A complication with the African’s recovery meant surgery was required, with Gbamin having been nearing a return to full training when the Premier League was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I was really pleased to have Jean-Philippe Gbamin coming back to train with us,” Ancelotti told media before facing the Selhurst Park giants.

"The feeling is always good for all the players when one of your teammates can join the sessions after a long time.

"I understand how difficult the process was for JP, so far, physically and in the head, because I had the same thing in my playing career.

"When we talk about difficulties in football it is always being aware of more serious things in the world. All of us in the game are really lucky this is our job.

"But when you are a footballer and you cannot play for a long time it is a hard period in your life.

"JP, I am sure, can return a stronger character and better player – but we will not hurry him.

"The most important thing is he has the best chance to play for many years with no more serious problems."

Rodriguez’s 56th minute had given Everton the lead after a goalless first half, albeit, Palace substitute Michy Batshuayi ensured that the game ended on a no winner no vanquished note.

Everton are eighth in the Premier League log with 47 points from 29 games. They are guests of Brighton & Hove Albion in their next outing on April 12.

'Would I invite Ramos to my 60th birthday?' - Klopp not out for revenge when Liverpool meet Real Madrid

The Reds boss says he has let go of his anger after the 2018 Champions League final as the sides prepare to meet in Spain

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool are not on "a revenge tour" as they prepare to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals this week.

The Reds touched down in the Spanish capital on Monday afternoon ahead of their tantalising last-eight tie against the Liga champions.

Much of the build-up, pre-match, has centred around the sides' meeting in the 2018 final in Kiev, which Real won 3-1.

Sergio Ramos, the villain-in-chief that night, will not play on Tuesday due to injury, but as many as 14 of the 22 players who started the game could do so again, with opinion split as to who enters the tie as favourites.

What's been said?

Speaking at a press conference in Madrid on Monday evening, Klopp said: "We are not on a revenge tour here. I don’t believe too much in revenge, but it would be nice to get through, because it would mean we are in the next round!

“My motivation is on the highest level because it’s the Champions League, we play Real Madrid and we want to go to the next round. It has nothing to do with 2018.

“When we got the draw, of course I remembered the game because it was the first time we have played each other since.

“I said after that [2018] game that if somebody asked me in a press conference a week later or a month later if I would invite Sergio Ramos to my 60th birthday, then I would say no! Meanwhile, I would think about it again. It's not that he's not a great footballer but I didn’t like what happened that night. It was a strange night for us, but it’s long ago and I cannot get that feeling, that anger, back.

“I can only try to prepare my team to show tomorrow how good we are as a football team. It’s a strange season and a difficult season for us, but we want to show how good we are, and if we are better than Real Madrid and can score more goals, then we go to the next round. And if not then Real Madrid will.”

Do Liverpool have a chance to win?

Klopp believes so.

He said: “Our team is built for these kind of games, when we face a football-playing side. That’s why we have a chance, absolutely.

“I heard outside that everybody says Real Madrid is favourite. Great! No problem at all with that. They are used to the role, and we have no problem with the role of challenger."

Klopp floats prospect of Fab Four starting for Liverpool against Real Madrid

Jurgen Klopp has previewed the game against Real Madrid, and says revenge is not on his mind

Jurgen Klopp has floated the prospect of starting Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota in the same Liverpool side against Real Madrid.

The quartet were on the field at the same time during the win over Arsenal on Saturday , and they made a positive impression on Klopp.

Jota scored three minutes after coming on for Andy Robertson, and sealed the win with his second of the match after Salah had doubled the advantage on 68 minutes.

What has been said?

Liverpool face Real in the Champions League quarter finals on Tuesday, and Klopp teased the idea of all four starting the game.

When asked if all four could start, Klopp said : “There will be a moment when we give it a try. Is it tomorrow? We will see.

“You will have to wait! Did Zinedine [Zidane] say anything about lineups? We will see. But it looked good at Arsenal. Looked good at Man City too."

Klopp ready to attack

Salah, Mane, Firmino and Jota are no strangers to playing together, and started the 1-1 draw at Manchester City in November.

Liverpool led that game through a Salah penalty, and Klopp liked what he saw. The German coach has been unable to field them together on account of the injury Jota picked up in December, but is toying with the option again.

Resurgent Samatta fires Fenerbahce past Sacko’s Denizlispor

The Yellow Canaries continued their push for the Super Lig diadem with the Tanzania international netting their only goal against the Roosters

Mbwana Samatta was Fenerbahce’s hero in Monday’s 1-0 defeat of Denizlispor in a Super Lig encounter.

Prior to this encounter, the Aston Villa loanee had gone on a run of 11 games for the Yellow Canaries without finding the net.

His last goal came in his side's 3-0 defeat of Kayserispor on January 25, 2021. However, the resurgent striker returned to scoring ways against the Roosters.

Having failed to win any of their last three games, Denizlispor travelled to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, with the ambition of ending their poor run. But they returned home empty-handed despite a brave shift.

After a cagey opening minute, the visitors had the first real chance of the game in the 18th minute. However, it was Hungary international Attila Szalai who made a crucial tackle that pushed their promising attack for a corner kick.

The resultant kick was taken but Hadi Sacko’s right-footed shot from Angelo Sagal’s pass could not threaten Altay Bayindir.

A minute before the half-time break, the hosts almost took the lead but Sinan Gumus' shot sailed over the crossbar.

In the second half, Denizlispor came out strong but a formidable defensive formation from Emre Belozoglu’s men frustrated their effort.

Four minutes from the hour mark, Samatta settled the tough encounter after rising higher than his markers to head Caner Erkin’s corner kick past a stranded Cenk Gonen.

Seven minutes later, the lead was almost doubled but Enner Valencia’s fierce shot went off the goalpost.

In the 83rd minute, Samatta profited from shaky Denizlispor defending and passed the ball to Bright Osayi-Samuel – who was available in the penalty area. Nonetheless, the Nigerian midfielder could not convert that chance into a goal.

At the end of 90 minutes, it was Fenerbahce who claimed all points at stake at the expense of Hakan Kutlu’s side.

After putting up a notable display, Samatta – who now boasts four league goals in 24 outings so far – was subbed off for Mert Hakan Yandas in the 90th minute, while Mame Thiam came in for Enner Valencia two minutes earlier.

With 62 points from 31 outings, Fenerbahce occupy second position in the Turkish elite division - two points below Besiktas who have a game in hand.

Late Batshuayi strike sees spoils shared at Everton

That's it from me here tonight. Until the next time, goodbye!

The result doesn't mean a whole lot for the table today, though Everton's top-four hopes have taken a hit. They stay eighth, four points behind Chelsea with a game in hand. Palace remain in 12th.

Batshuayi's late leveller salvages a point for Palace! Goalkeeper Guaita's heroics in the visitors' net looked to have been in vain as Rodriguez smashed home early in the first half, with Calvert-Lewin and especially Richarlison kept at bay despite having good chances in both halves. Palace clung on, though, and Batshuayi scored just two minutes after coming off the bench to rescue a point and make a point to Roy Hodgson after his comments during the international break. Everton will be wondering how they haven't won.

90' + 5' FULL-TIME: EVERTON 1-1 CRYSTAL PALACE

90' + 3' Schlupp crosses from the right of the area but it's a poor delivery, straight to Davies, who can play it out under no pressure.

90' + 2' Holgate sends a long ball from the left towards Godfrey at the far post. He looks to head it down to Sigurdsson but can't get enough of a connection on it and it's cut out.

90' + 1' Four minutes added on.

90' Batshuayi's goal came just two minutes and 16 seconds after he came off the bench.

88' You know the script by now. Calvert-Lewin finds Richarlison in the area but he scuffs his shot and gives Guaita time to get down to his right and make a good save. It was well directed towards the bottom-left corner, but didn't have any power.

83' Ooh, that's a good chance for Schlupp! Van Aanholt picks up the ball on the left and finds Zaha at the edge of the area. He plays it to the feet of Schlupp who has plenty of time to pick his spot, but drags his shot across goal and wide.

81' Guaita saves from Richarlison again! It's a great stop. Calvert-Lewin hooks in a cross from the right, finding Digne in space at the left of the area. He side-foots it back to Richarlison in the centre who doesn't do a lot wrong with his finish, bouncing an awkward half-volley into the ground and on target, but Guaita reacts brilliantly to tip it over.

77' Zaha gets into the area on the left and skips away from Godfrey, but his attempted low cross is blocked.

74' Coleman comes infield from the right and unleashes his inner Quaresma with a gratuitous outside-of-the-boot pass, looking to spin it out to Digne on the left. It's blocked at the edge of the area but almost drops to Sigurdsson, who can't quite hook his boot back to tee himself up for a shot.

73' Less than 20 minutes of the 90 to play now. Palace have been much improved since Rodriguez scored but their final ball has been lacking so far. You would think a second Everton goal now might kill it.

71' A corner on the left is taken short to Zaha and he teases in a cross towards the far post. Benteke attacks it but can't quite get a touch and it fades behind for a goal kick.

69' That's poor from Van Aanholt. Straight off the bench, Schlupp picks up the ball in the centre of the Everton half and spins, finding the left-back in acres of space to the left of the area. He hesitates long enough for a defender to get back and block his first cross, and his attempted pull-back from the rebound spins away from the area to nobody in particular.

68' Rodriguez gives Digne a ball to chase down the left channel, and the left-back harries Ward all the way to the byline to try and get to it. Ward and Kouyate have to combine to get it clear but the flag eventually goes up.

66' Ayew comes infield from the right and has a pop from range, but it's a simple enough save for Olsen down to his left. Palace have come to life in the last few minutes.

65' Zaha intercepts a pass from Davies just inside the Everton half and drives into the area, jinking away from Keane at the edge of the box to get the ball onto his left foot for a shot. Eventually, he's just forced wide enough that the best he can do is hit it straight at Olsen.

64' Not to jinx it, but the second half has been much more entertaining than the first. There should really have been more than one goal so far tonight with some of the chances that have gone begging for the home side.

62' The ball comes to Eze at the left side of the area and he whacks a swerving effort across goal, looking for the far top corner. Olsen seems to want to catch it before opting to parry and he doesn't get it away from danger, but a defender is on hand to hack it clear.

60' Rodriguez has now been involved in 12 goals in 14 home appearances for Everton in all competitions - this being his fifth goal, along with seven assists.

59' Guaita denies Calvert-Lewin again! The Palace keeper is keeping his side in it tonight. Rodriguez, Sigurdsson and Richarlison combine to find Calvert-Lewin at the edge of the area but he has to twist his body around the ball to hit it first time, and the keeper comes out to smother.

54' Rodriguez bends in a lovely corner from the right, skimming along the line of the six-yard box. Mina can only get a glancing touch as he looks to head it goalwards and it takes it away from Richarlison behind him, who looks furious to see the chance go begging.

53' Close! Digne can't quite pick out Calvert-Lewin in the area but Cahill can only clear as far as Sigurdsson at the edge of the area. He looks to pick out the bottom-left corner but Kouyate makes a great block, sliding the ball behind for a corner.

52' Benteke has played some lovely first-time flicked passes today. He combines with Eze and Van Aanholt down the left this time, and the latter wins a corner.

51' Eze goes down in the area under a challenge from Holgate. He wants a penalty and has a word with the ref after the incident, but it was a good tackle and a good decision.

50' Benteke holds the ball up at the edge of the area with Ayew and Zaha in support. He opts to find the former but the Everton back line stands firm and the attackers can't pick a way through.

48' Eze looks for a one-two with Zaha as he comes infield from the left. Zaha holds onto the ball before looking to slide the ball into the feet of Benteke in the area, but his wayward pass is cut out.

46' Rodriguez bends in a free-kick from the right touchline. It seems to move in the wind and for a second it looks like it might bend all the way in, but nobody can touch it home and Guaita manages to take the catch.

45' We're back underway.

With Mateta, Batshuayi and Townsend, the Palace bench perhaps has a few more attacking options than Everton's tonight. Everton's does contain Gbamin for the first time since August 2019, and Ancelotti said before the game that he's looking to get him on at some point.

A game that has threatened to burst into life without ever properly getting going, though Everton will feel they should be ahead. Richarlison in particular has had a few chances to break the deadlock but both he and Calvert-Lewin have been thwarted by Guaita. The home side can be satisfied with their performance so far but Palace have looked threatening when Zaha and Eze have managed to find pockets of space to run into.

45' + 3' HALF-TIME: EVERTON 0-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

45' + 1' Two minutes added on.

44' Everton are finishing the half strongly but still can't get their noses in front. Rodriguez delivers a free-kick from deep on the left and finds Richarlison eight yards out, but he heads over again.

42' Richarlison spins nicely away from Ayew and Milivojevic at the left side of the area and lays the ball back to Rodriguez. He hammers a left-footed effort towards the bottom-right corner, but puts it just wide.

41' Everton win a free-kick just outside the area, over to the left. Richarlison is adamant he's taking it, ignoring some friendly advice from Digne, Rodriguez and Sigurdsson. He looks to curl it into the far top corner - bringing to mind that Dimitri Payet stunner against Palace a few years ago - but bends it high and wide. He probably won't take the next one.

39' Milivojevic tries to slip Benteke in behind but he has to come back to collect the ball, and he does so from an offside position.

37' A loose ball drops to Benteke in the area and he reacts quickly to shoot, but it deflects off an Everton boot and spins kindly up in the air for Olsen to catch.

36' Digne checks onto his right foot and bends an inswinging cross towards Calvert-Lewin on the penalty spot, but a Palace defender gets across to head clear.

35' Benteke lays off Van Aanholt with a lovely flicked pass at the edge of the area but the left-back can't take it cleanly as he bursts infield and the ball goes astray.

32' Davies and Van Aanholt collide just at the right corner of the Everton penalty area. The left-back released the ball and ran straight into the Everton man, who didn't really have time to get out of the way. The ball goes out for a goal kick and after a moment to catch their breath, the two players are back up and running.

29' This could be bad news for Everton. Gomes is down, and Sigurdsson is being readied on the touchline.

27' Zaha works the ball onto his left foot around 25 yards out, but drags a low shot across goal and wide to the right of goal.

26' The game has really livened up after a slow start. Everton will be annoyed not to be ahead, after two very presentable chances for Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin.

24' Holgate floats a cross-field pass from left to right, picking out Coleman by the touchline. He loops a cross into the area and Rodriguez controls it nicely but has to rush his shot with defenders converging on him, and lifts it over the bar.

23' Richarlison should score! Gomes robs Ayew inside Palace's half and the forward has his head in his hands as he sees the ball slipped through to Richarlison, who drives into the area and looks certain to finish. He feints onto his right foot and looks to curl one but puts it straight at Guaita's chest, and he can't react quickly enough to collect the rebound and slide it home.

21' Things are happening! Coleman gets to the byline and cuts back away from Van Aanholt, giving himself a yard of space to measure a cross. He picks out Richarlison but the Brazilian mistimes his jump and can only head over from six yards out.

20' Chances! Eze gets the ball at the left corner of the penalty area and plays a neat one-two with Ayew, bursting between two defenders before seeing a low shot saved at the near post. Everton go up the other end and Calvert-Lewin is played through on goal, but Guaita comes out and makes a great save at the edge of his area.

19' Riedewald chips a pass over to Eze on the left but Coleman holds him off well and Keane steps across to take the ball.

18' Ayew looks to turn on the centre spot but he's dragged down by Gomes. These little fouls are killing any sort of rhythm in the game so far.

17' Milivojevic swings in a cross from a free-kick deep on the right. He looks for Benteke on the penalty spot but an Everton defender gets above him to head half-clear. The ball drops to Van Aanholt who swings a boot at it, but his optimistic shot floats well over the crossbar.

14' Keane fires a flat ball down the right for Coleman to chase but he can't catch up and it's behind for a goal kick.

12' Rodriguez finds Digne in space to the left of the penalty area but his cross is poor, lofted straight to the near post where Guaita takes an easy catch. This has not been a high-quality game of football so far.

11' Benteke sends Davies head over heels with a late challenge in the centre circle.

9' Ward takes his time working out the position of a free-kick deep on the right. It's one of those classic situations where the player has stolen a few yards so the referee tells him to go back - as soon as the ref turns around, Ward rolls the ball straight back to where he had put it in the first place, before overhitting his free-kick straight through to Olsen in the Everton net. Great stuff.

7' What happened there?! Gomes wins the ball from Milivojevic on the halfway line and slips it forward to Richarlison, who looks to be in on goal. Instead of shooting, he squares it to Calvert-Lewin, but his pass is wayward and he can't twist back to put it into the empty net. Eventually the flag does go up because Richarlison was well offside when Gomes played him through.

6' First chance of the match comes to Zaha after some nice play between himself and Benteke. Benteke eventually finds Zaha in some space just outside the area and he goes for goal, but Mina blocks his effort behind for a corner, which is cleared.

4' Palace have only kept one clean sheet in their 18 Premier League away games so far this season, in a goalless draw at Arsenal back in January. Only Sheffield United have a worse record, and they're bottom of the league.

3' Digne goes down after getting a hand in the face from Ward. Play carries on as referee Kevin Friend doesn't seem to spot it, but the whistle eventually goes as the Everton left-back stays down. He's fine, though.

2' It is cold and very blustery at Goodison today. Things could get interesting for the two defences, particularly at set pieces.

1' We're off!

The teams are on their way out onto the pitch and we’re almost ready for kick-off.

Everton are unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League games against Palace, winning six and drawing six. However, four of Palace's last five league wins against the Toffees have come here at Goodison Park.

Everton's last game before the international break was a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City here in the FA Cup and they make four changes from that game. Olsen, Keane, Davies and Rodriguez come in for Virginia, Godfrey, Allan and Sigurdsson. Palace, meanwhile, are unchanged from their win over West Brom, with Benteke and Zaha leading the line once again.

SUBS: Reece Hannam, Scott Dann, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Martin Kelly, Michy Batshuayi, Tyrick Mitchell, Andros Townsend, Jack Butland, Jeffrey Schlupp.

CRYSTAL PALACE (4-4-2): Vicente Guaita; Patrick van Aanholt, Gary Cahill, Cheikhou Kouyate, Joel Ward; Eberechi Eze, Jairo Riedewald, Luka Milivojevic, Jordan Ayew; Wilfried Zaha, Christian Benteke.

SUBS: Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Ben Godfrey, Harry Tyrer, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Joshua King, Kyle John, Niels Nkounkou, Joao Virginia, Nathan Broadhead.

EVERTON (3-4-1-2): Robin Olsen; Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate; Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes, Tom Davies, Seamus Coleman; James Rodriguez; Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Carlo Ancelotti and his side are still dreaming of the Champions League as we enter the final stage of the season - they're five points off the top four with two games in hand going into this game. Roy Hodgson's Palace, meanwhile, are safely tucked away in mid-table in 12th.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of this Monday evening Premier League match. We’ll have all the action from Goodison Park as Everton look to keep up their hunt for European qualification with a home fixture against Crystal Palace.
