Netherlands hammer Gibraltar in 7-0 goalfest

Netherlands hammer Gibraltar in 7-0 goalfest

That's all for today, goodbye!

That win lifts Netherlands up to second in the table, above Montenegro and Norway on goal difference. Their attention will now be turning to the Euros in June. As for Gibraltar, they stay rooted to the bottom of the table after losing their first three qualifiers and they'll be hoping to do better against Latvia in September.

Netherlands sweep aside Gibraltar with a 7-0 win. It was only 1-0 at the break, with Berghuis breaking the deadlock 41 minutes in with a curling effort. Netherlands were clinical in the second half though with Luuk de Jong netting a second at the near post before they added three more in a four-minute period through Depay, Wijnaldum and Malen. Van de Beek came off the bench to slot a sixth past Gibraltar before Depay rounded it off with a close-range tap-in for his second of the game.

90' + 8' FULL-TIME: GIBRALTAR 0-7 NETHERLANDS.

90' + 7' De Ligt gives away a corner and it's a good cross into the box from Mouelhi. He's looking for Wiseman in the middle but it bounces off the back of Gravenberch and goes back out of play.

90' + 5' A Netherlands corner is cleared to De Barr and he does really well to break out of his own half despite having three defenders around him. He spots Walker's run through the middle and tries to pick him out, but it's short and Gravenberch wins it back.

90' + 2' GOOD SAVE! Netherlands counter quickly following Gibraltar's corner and Depay cuts inside from the right to get into space. He has Van de Beek in the middle but chooses to go for goal, looking for his hat-trick, but Goldwin parries it away at his near post.

90' Gibraltar have a chance to break out of their own half with Mouelhi chasing Moulds' long clearance down the left. He latches on to it and tries to play an early cross into De Barr and ends up winning a corner off Gravenberch.

87' Depay finds himself in a pocket of space just outside the box so he decides to go for goal. He's trying to catch Goldwin out at his near post and curls his shot towards the bottom left corner, but it's always swerving well wide of the target.

84' Wijndal has a lot of space to run into down the left and he curls a great cross into the box when he gets into the final third. Babel is running onto it at the far post but Chipolina makes an important interception ahead of him to hook it clear.

79' Luuk de Jong is the first Dutch national team player to score in three consecutive competitive games for the national team since Arjen Robben in 2017.

76' WHAT A MISS! Berghuis whips another great cross into the far post from the right and Wijndal cushions his header across goal for Wijnaldum to run onto. He's stood next to the post and he flicks his header just wide of the target.

76' SAVE! Goldwin is straight into the action as he comes rushing off his line to close down Luuk de Jong and stop his run into the box. The ball loops up for Malen and Goldwin is there gets back to push it away.

72' Coleing has stayed down after taking a goal-kick and it looks like he's done something to his hamstring as he kicked the ball. The medical team are signalling to the bench and it looks like he's going to have to go off.

70' CLOSE! De Barr gives the ball away just outside his own box and Wijndal quickly lays it off to Malen. He turns away from Sergeant to get into space but ends up dragging at his shot and dragging it wide of the near post.

68' Gibraltar are enjoying their first real bit of possession in the second half, but Walker can't find a way past Wijndal on the left. He's forced to go back to Chipolina, putting his defence under pressure again and the captain hooks it to safety.

66' It's all gone wrong for Gibraltar and they're looking very shaky at the back as Netherlands push forward once again. Berghuis swings yet another cross in from the left which none of the defenders go for and Coleing has to come off his line to collect it.

59' Berghuis is the first Netherlands player to score the opening goal in consecutive games since Depay managed it in November 2017.

57' GOOD SAVE! Depay plays a good throughball into Berghuis on the edge of the box and again, none of the defenders close him down. He aims his shot across goal, but Coleing gets down quickly to push it out for a corner.

52' Blind has stayed down holding his knee after the coming together with De Barr and he looks to be in a lot of pain. He's getting treatment on it now, but it's not looking good as the stretcher is being brought onto the field.

51' De Barr makes a brilliant driving run through the middle of the field, weaving away from De Light to get into the box. He goes to ground when he gets into the box under pressure from Blind, but there's not much in it and the referee waves away the penalty claims.

50' Wijndal is trying to make something happen down the left for Netherlands, but Gibraltar are crowding him out and making it difficult to get forward. They switch it out to Berghuis on the left, but his cross is collected by Coleing.

48' Netherlands have started the second half the way they finished the first as they continue to keep Gibraltar penned back in their own half. Depay plays a one-two with Luuk de Jong before going to ground in the box under pressure from Chipolina, but the referee waves away the penalty claims.

46' Netherlands get us back underway for the second half!

De Boer will be pleased to see his side go in ahead at the break, but they really have struggled to break down Gibraltar at times and he will want to see a big improvement in front of goal in the second half. Ribas will be pleased with his team's performance so far as they've dealt with Netherlands' threat well and he'll be hoping for more of the same.

Berghuis' goal gives Netherlands a 1-0 lead over Gibraltar at the break. Netherlands dominated the first half, having a total of 19 shots on goal. They couldn't find a way through until the 41st minute though when Wijnaldum touched it back to Berghuis and he curled a brilliant strike past Coleing and into the far corner. The visitors could've had more if not for Coleing, who made great saves to deny De Ligt, Klaassen and Wijndal.

45' + 2' HALF-TIME: GIBRALTAR 0-1 NETHERLANDS.

45' GREAT SAVE! Frenkie de Jong's cross is being watched by Wijndal on the left of the box and he hits it first time on the volley when it falls to him. It takes a big deflection off Chipolina and Coleing makes a brilliant reflex save to push it away from close range.

43' Netherlands are still keeping the pressure on Gibraltar here and the hosts just can't get out of their own half at the moment. Depay tries to play in Luuk de Jong in the middle with a throughball, but it's cut out by Sergeant.

40' GREAT SAVE! It's a brilliant cross into the box from Berghuis on the right and Luuk de Jong touches it back to Klaassen. He gets the ball out from under his feet, and drills a low shot to the bottom-right corner, but Coleing is there to push it off the line.

37' Netherlands just can't find a way through Gibraltar's backline and Ronan makes an important interception in midfield before trying to set De Barr on the counter. He's quickly closed down by Berghuis though and he can't get out of his own half.

35' Netherlands are still finding a lot of space down the left and Wijndal swings an early cross into the box to pick out Klaassen. His header hits Wiseman before rebounding onto him and going out for a Gibraltar goal-kick.

33' Wiseman puts a long throw-in into the box for Gibraltar and Blind's clearance only goes as far as Annesley. He heads it to Walker, who brings it down and sets himself for a shot, but he used his arm to control it and Netherlands win a free-kick.

29' Jolley steps in front of Luuk de Jong to intercept Blind's pass and he tries to set De Barr on the counter. He's bundled to the ground by De Ligt and Gibraltar have a free-kick which will ease the pressure on them at the moment.

27' Gibraltar just can't get a touch on the ball at the moment and Netherlands are on the attack again. Depay is finding a lot of space down the left and he pulls it back for Klaassen just outside the box. He tries a throughball into Luuk de Jong, but it rolls kindly for Coleing.

25' GOOD SAVE! Chipolina's clearance falls to Dumfries on the right and he pulls it back for Wijnaldum who's in space on the edge of the box. He fires a low shot towards the bottom left corner and Coleing gets down to push it away with a strong hand.

23' GREAT CHANCE! The Gibraltar defenders are asking for offside against Depay, but he timed his run perfectly to latch onto Wijndal's cross. He whips a good cross into the far post where Dumfries meets it, but he ends up heading his effort wide of the far post.

21' Luuk de Jong manages to bundle the ball into Klaassen at the byline on the left and he pulls it back for Depay. He turns away from two Gibraltar defenders to get in on goal, but he drags at his shot and it rolls wide of the near post.

19' De Barr was chasing Ronan's long ball over the top and Krul came rushing off his line to collect it but caught the forward in the head with his knee. He's received treatment on it and he's going to be able to come back on.

17' DOUBLE SAVE! Depay swings his corner into the box and Berghuis pulls back to the edge of the box to curl a shot on goal. Luuk de Jong is closing in on it but Coleing manages to push the ball away before smothering Depay's bicycle kick at the near post.

16' It's a good corner into the box for Gibraltar and Netherlands don't get their lines clear as Blind's clearance falls to Chipolina. He heads it back into the middle and De Barr is setting himself for a shot just as De Ligt gets back to clear his lines.

14' Gibraltar have everyone back in their own box as Netherlands push forward again and the visitors switch it out to Wijndal on the left. He steps away from Wiseman before firing a shot towards the near top corner, but he fires it high over the crossbar.

12' Netherlands are keeping the pressure on Gibraltar here as Depay drives forward down the left, before cutting inside and wrongfooting Sergeant. He drills a shot towards the far post, but Wiseman gets back to makes the block.

10' Netherlands have a lot of bodies in the box, but Frenkie de Jong chooses to switch play out to Dumfries, who's in a lot of space on the right, instead. It's too high for him though and he ends up heading it out of play.

8' Berghuis is finding a lot of space early on and he cuts inside from the right again before floating a lovely cross into the box towards Depay. He can't bring it down though and Chipolina clears the danger for Gibraltar.

6' Berghuis draws his defender into him as he drives through the middle before picking out Luuk de Jong with a cross with the outside of his boot. He tries to play the return ball, but Berghuis is blocked off and it rolls straight out of play.

4' Berghuis has gone down after being caught late by De Barr and the referee has called across the forward to have a word with him as he's already given away a couple of free-kicks and he's going to have to be careful.

2' Netherlands are seeing a lot of the ball in the opening minutes, but it's patient play from them as they try to work it around Gibraltar, who have dropped back to sit deep in their own half.

1' Walker gets the game underway for Gibraltar!

The teams are out on the pitch now, with kick-off just moments away.

This is the first meeting between Gibraltar and Netherlands in any competition.

Frank de Boer was clearly pleased with his team's performance against Latvia last time out and is taking no chances today as he names an unchanged side for this game.
