48' Foden and De Bruyne turn down the chance to shoot from 20 yards. City are forced all the way back to Ake but soon come forward again, the attack ending with Sterling's pass to Mendy rolling out of play.
46' RESTART! Wolves, trailing to a De Bruyne penalty and Foden strike, get us back up and running at Molineux.
Wolves, not helped by the injury loss of Marcal inside the first eight minutes, looked terrible in the first half. Nuno needs to change something if his side are to realistically take something from this game. As for City, they are in complete control and have the likes of Mahrez and new signing Torres on their bench.
City take a commanding 2-0 lead into half-time against Wolves. De Bruyne earned a penalty from Saiss' challenge and made no mistake in converting, before Foden rounded off an impressive team move to double the visitors' tally. De Bruyne was denied from a one-on-one late on, giving Wolves some hope of a comeback in the second half.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: WOLVES 0-2 MANCHESTER CITY
45' + 1' Two minutes have been added on at the end of the first half at Molineux.
45' CLOSE! Rodrigo sends a swerving shot - or was it a cross? - just wide of the far post. Patricio, having pulled off a good save to deny De Bruyne a couple of minutes ago, looks glad to see it spin past the post,
44' DE BRUYNE DENIED! Jesus nods on an aerial ball and De Bruyne is through on goal with a good first touch. Patricio makes himself big and De Bruyne is unable to squeeze it past the Wolves keeper.
42' The corner is worked short. Traore eventually swings it in and Jimenez gets his head to it first, sending an effort a yard or so wide. That is easily the closest Wolves have come to scoring.
40' Podence rolls the ball to Jimenez and the Mexico international drives down the right. His attempted cross is cut out for a corner.
39' WIDE! City turn over possession in the opposition half. Foden is played in and tries to curl one in from an angle but is unable to find the target.
37' Nuno will surely change something at the interval because his side have offered nothing in the first half. If anything, City could well be further ahead by the time the half-time whistle sounds.
34' Guardiola's charges really are in complete control of this match now. It is incredible just how sharp they look despite having a five-week gap between games.
31' STERLING COMES CLOSE! Foden carries the ball inside and finds a gap in the Wolves defence. He picks out Sterling and the angled shot is easily captured by Patricio.
30' Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass from City. Wolves could do with half-time so boss Nuno can change something.
29' Jesus claims he was pushed when attempting to get on the end of Walker's latest cross. City are truly dominating possession now, highlighted by the seven touches of the ball Wolves forward Jimenez has had in the opening half an hour.
27' De Bruyne slightly overhits a throughball intended for Sterling. Wolves' back three are being pulled all over the place.
26' Wolves are struggling to get the ball into the opposition half. Guardiola's men may not have played for five weeks, but they are looking impressive so far today.
24' Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has scored each of his last three penalties in the Premier League, having missed his first one in October 2016 v Everton.
23' City's movement in the final third is causing Wolves plenty of problems now. A corner is won and played into the middle, where Jimenez is well positioned to head behind.
21' That really was a clumsy challenge from Wolves defender Saiss, who should have stayed on his feet with De Bruyne not really going anywhere.
19' PENALTY TO CITY! De Bruyne gets to the ball ahead of Saiss, who needlessly slides in and makes contact with his opponent just inside the box. The referee Andre Marriner points to the spot.
18' Wolves have settled down over the last five minutes or so. City are still looking the more threatening in an attacking sense but the hosts are not exactly looking troubled at the back.
17' De Bruyne plays a pass in behind the Wolves backline for Jesus, who fails to hold is run and is flagged for offside.
16' After a promising City move breaks down in the Wolves box, the hosts get forward and Podence's 25-yard drive is blocked by the returning Stones.
15' De Bruyne floats a pass towards Jesus but it has too much height and Wolves goalkeeper Patricio gathers.
14' City have had 73 per cent of the ball so far - it has been one-way traffic at Molineux. For all their possession, however, the visitors have yet to create a clear-cut opportunity.
12' SAVE! Jesus is fouled by Neto around 20 yards from the Wolves goal. De Bruyne gets the free-kick on target but it is a fairly simple one for Patricio to push aside.
11' Manchester City have not lost their opening game in any of their last 11 Premier League seasons, winning the last nine in a row. No side has ever won 10 consecutive season openers in the competition before.
9' That is a bit of a blow for Nuno so early in the match, but Vinagre is at least a wing-back by trade so it should not disrupt the hosts too much.
7' City full-backs Walker and Mendy are being given permission to play high up the pitch, with Fernandinho dropping into the backline when needed.
6' De Bruyne catches Neves and Wolves have a free-kick. The hosts have not really been able to find any sort of rhythm to their play early on.
5' That was superb defending from Coady to bail out defensive team-mate Boly, who got himself in a right mess. Sterling is looking very sharp as he tries to jink past a couple of players, but Wolves stand firm.
3' PENALTY SHOUT! Sterling turns Boly brilliantly on the edge of the Wolves box. He drives towards goal and is sent crashing to the ground by Coady, but referee Andre Marriner waves away the penalty appeals. Replays show that the officials got the decision spot on - Coady did not touch the City winger.
1' KICK-OFF! Man City officially get their 2020-21 campaign under way! The visitors are wearing their third kit today, while Wolves are in their traditional gold and black home strip.
The two sides have made their way down the tunnel area and kick-off at Molineux is now just a couple of minutes away. This match will be played behind closed doors, as will all Premier League fixtures for the foreseeable future.
Manchester City lost both Premier League meetings with Wolves last season. Head coach Pep Guardiola has never lost three consecutive league meetings against a single opponent in his entire managerial career.
Guardiola has handed a debut to new signing Ake in the heart of defence alongside Stones, but fellow newbie Torres has to settle for a place among the subs. Ilkay Gundogan tested positive for coronavirus on the day of the game and is therefore not involved today, while Sergio Aguero is still at least a month away from a return, so Jesus will be given a run in the side up top.
Wolves show six changes from their EFL Cup loss to Stoke last Thursday - Patricio, Marcal, Moutinho, Podence, Jimenez and Neto all returning to the starting line-up. In terms of last weekend's win over Sheffield United, Neves is brought into the side in place of Dendoncker, meaning a 3-4-3 formation of sorts for the home side.
Subs: Adrian Bernabe, Zack Steffen, Nicolas Otamendi, Liam Delap, Ferran Torres, Tommy Doyle, Riyad Mahrez.
CITY XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Kyle Walker, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Benjamin Mendy; Fernandinho (c), Rodrigo; Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling; Gabriel Jesus.
Subs: Oskar Buur, Fabio Silva, Vitinha, Maximilian Kilman, Ruben Vinagre, John Ruddy, Leander Dendoncker.
WOLVES XI (3-4-2-1): Rui Patricio; Willy Boly, Conor Coady (c), Romain Saiss; Adama Traore, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Marcal; Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto; Raul Jimenez.
City are in action for the first time this season, five weeks on from their 2019-20 campaign being brought to an end with defeat to Lyon in the Champions League quarter-finals. Pep Guardiola's side are already playing catch up on champions Liverpool, who have won two games from two - one of five sides to have collected maximum points thus far.
Wolves kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United last weekend through early goals from Raul Jimenez and Romain Saiss. However, Nuno Espirito Santo's men were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Stoke City at the second-round stage last Thursday, despite naming a fairly strong side, and will be looking to hit back here.
