The teenager's representative is not ruling out a second spell with the Porcupine Warriors

Ghanaian prodigy Matthew Anim Cudjoe could make a return to Asante Kotoko next season, despite media speculation about an imminent move abroad.

The 16-year-old spent last season on loan with the Porcupine Warriors, joining from lower division outfit Young Apostles.

Nicknamed the Ghanaian Messi because of his diminutive nature and dribbling ability, the national U17 star has been linked to Bayern Munich after a trial stint with the German giants in February.

“Honestly, in the interest of the boy if he wants to play any team in Ghana again then it should be Asante Kotoko, it’s Kotoko’s chance to lose him if they want it that way,” Cudjoe's agent Samuel Anim Addo told Wontumi Radio.

“If there should be a foreign contract then he will leave but if not then he’s for Asante and everyone knows what my stand is so if Asante doesn’t do the right thing and lose him, I can’t be blamed because it is clear if he wants to play in Ghana again then it is Asante Kotoko.

“Currently there is no management rather the board and I have not received any call from anyone after the expiration of his contract, so far the only person in Kotoko who keeps in touch is coach Maxwell Konadu.

"I am sure they know what to do because they already know what the boy can bring on board and I am open to renegotiating with them.

“If he is to return to the club, we wouldn’t do politics like he’d travel abroad so we won’t let him play certain games or because of his age. This is what gave Maxwell the chance because he assured me he will hand him enough playing time.

"We will consider a lot of things like his diet, building, development etc before we will think of extending his contract with Kotoko."

Cudjoe made six league appearances and scored once during the recently cancelled Ghana Premier League (GPL) season.

He was the toast of fans as Kotoko beat arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in matchweek six of the championship after coming on as a second-half substitute in Accra.

The Prestea-born is a member of Ghana's U17 side.

IOC urge FIFA to ban Russia from all football

The Egyptian joins the two legends in the English top flight’s respected ranks following his assist against Dean Smith’s men

Mohamed Salah’s feat of getting his 100th Premier League goal involvement makes him the joint-second fastest player in the championship’s history to reach that milestone.

The Egyptian assisted substitute Curtis Jones, who sealed Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Aston Villa at Anfield.

That contribution ensured he has now been involved in 73 goals and 27 assists after 116th appearances in the English elite division, to accompany his accuracy in front of goal since he joined from Serie A.

With this, Salah has equalled Manchester United’s Eric Cantona, who managed the feat in the same number of matches. Nevertheless, he is behind Alan Shearer who attained that mark in just 100 appearances.

Salah's achievement is accentuated by the fact that he is Liverpool’s top scorer in the competition this season, and he is on course for a third Golden Boot diadem.

Currently, he is behind Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Southampton’s Danny Ings and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy in the race for the 2019-20 individual prize.

Having struggled to make his mark in English football at Chelsea, his stint at Anfield has proved to be a contrasting time.

Salah joined Jurgen Klopp’s men for £36.7 million ($45m) in the summer of 2017 on the back of two impressive seasons with Roma in Serie A, having been let go by the Stamford Bridge giants.

That show of faith saw the 28-year-old become a key part in the Reds’ attacking setup, with his prolific presence bettering the returns of club legendary figures like Fernando Torres and Luiz Suarez.

That form also saw him help Liverpool win the Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup, and Fifa World Club as well as claim a PFA Player of the Year award.

With Sunday’s victory, Klopp’s men now boast of 89 points in 33 league appearances as they are hoping to break the Premier League record of most points in a season.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City holds that record after they accumulated 100 points two seasons ago. That Man City side also holds the record for the most wins in the campaign with 32, another record Klopp's side - currently on 29 - could break.

Liverpool head to the south coast on Wednesday to face Brighton and Hove Albion, while Villa must defeat red-hot Manchester United on Thursday.

Peterborough vs Man City - FA Cup: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

Southampton protected an early lead with the help of a string of Alex McCarthy saves as Manchester City were surprisingly beaten.

Che Adams ended his wait for a first Premier League goal with an incredible long-range strike to see Southampton to a shock 1-0 win over Manchester City.

Adams was making his 25th top-flight appearance for Saints since his £15million signing just over a year ago, but he picked a fine time to break his duck.

City rested Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden, among others, after crushing champions Liverpool in midweek and lacked fluency from the outset at St Mary's, although Adams' wonderful finish preceded a flurry of chances for Pep Guardiola's men.

Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy was in inspired form, however, and the hosts held on to hand City their ninth league defeat of the season and their third in a row away from home.

The second-placed side were made to pay for their sloppy start when Stuart Armstrong stole possession from Oleksandr Zinchenko on halfway and the ball ran for Adams – without a goal since April 2019 – to sweep a stunning 40-yard effort over the stranded Ederson and into a gaping net.

Pressure subsequently built on the Southampton goal, where McCarthy watched Gabriel Jesus miss the target from close range before getting to work.

In a frantic spell, McCarthy parried from Raheem Sterling, dived after a Fernandinho shot that bounced away off the post and then sprang back to his feet to brilliantly repel David Silva's header.

Riyad Mahrez was next to find the insoured keeper blocking his path, before a stretching Danny Ings volleyed over when he might have doubled Saints' lead just before half-time.

McCarthy was at it again following the interval, keeping out Jesus' header and then smothering from Silva after a pinpoint Zinchenko pass.

De Bruyne and Foden soon arrived from the bench, but the withdrawals of Mahrez and Sterling only seemed to hurt City further and Ederson had to stop an Armstrong blast as his side stuttered to a surprise loss despite applying plenty of late pressure.

What does it mean? City miss key men

All 20 teams in the Premier League are adapting to a packed schedule that ensures a number of star players must be rested regularly. This time, it was the turn of City pair De Bruyne and Foden.

But with Sergio Aguero also out through injury, City lacked a cutting edge in the final third. Guardiola will hope to have all three fit and firing by the time the Champions League rolls around again.

McCarthy makes amends

In Southampton's previous home game, their hopes of beating Arsenal were hindered by a poor McCarthy error that allowed Eddie Nketiah to net the opener. The goalkeeper's display on Sunday ensured that mistake will be quickly forgotten.

While the energy of the hosts' outfield players forged opportunities in attack, they were grateful to McCarthy for save after save to improbably keep City at bay.

Defensive difficulties

Many have highlighted frailties in the centre of the City back line as the root cause of their failed title defence, but Aymeric Laporte has usually avoided criticism.

The Frenchman was uncharacteristically shaky on the south coast, though, hastily hacking at two mistimed clearances, while partner Eric Garcia almost played in Adams to net again midway through the second period.

Key Opta Facts

- Southampton have ended a run of six consecutive Premier League defeats against City, with this their first victory against the Citizens in the competition since May 2016 (4-2).
- Guardiola has lost three consecutive away league games for the first time in his managerial career.
- City have lost nine Premier League games this season, last losing more in a single campaign back in 2015-16 under Manuel Pellegrini (10).
- Adams' goal for Southampton was the longest-range Premier League strike so far this season (39 yards).

What's next?

In-form Everton lie in wait for Southampton at Goodison Park on Thursday, by which point City will have faced Newcastle United in Manchester.

Ralph Hasenhuttl Admits Southampton 'Must Be Better' After Poor Start

There goes the full-time whistle! Torres inadvertently opened the scoring with an own-goal after three minutes, but Moreno restored parity shortly after as he thumped home from close range when Ter Stegen parried Cazorla's shot. However, Messi showed dazzling close control to set Suarez up for a fantastic, curling strike, before backheeling into Griezmann for a clever, chipped finish in an action-packed first-half. Substitute Fati put the icing on the cake with a shot through Albiol's legs that fooled Asenjo at the ner post, but the goalkeeper made amends with an outstanding save to prevent the visitors further extending their lead. It finishes 4-1 to Barcelona!

90' + 5' FULL-TIME: VILLARREAL 1-4 BARCELONA

90' + 3' WHAT A SAVE BY ASENJO!!! Messi wins a free-kick and then takes it himself, rattling the crossbar as Asenjo dove despairingly to his right. The ball pinged back to Braithwaite, who headed towards a seemingly empty net, but Asenjo somehow got back in time to palm the ball to safety! That's a terrific save!

90' + 1' SAVE! Messi glides through the Villarreal defence, plays a one-two to get himself inside the box and cuts inside to shoot at goal, but the effort is right at Asenjo, who had come out well to close the angle!

88' Gaspar takes a frustrated shot from distance and blazes it high and wide. That certainly won't trouble Ter Stegen.

84' Nino twice receives the ball with his back to goal but he can't make it stick and bring a team-mate into play. He's visibly frustrated with himself for wasting the opportunities.

80' CHANCE! Alba's low ball from the left evades Albiol and Braithwaite sprints into the box to collect the pass. He tries to take a touch past Asenjo and fire into an empty net, but the keeper manages to block the effort and gather the loose ball before Fati could reach it!

78' The game is paused for the second drinks break now. The intensity of the game was starting to peter out, and the brief stoppage may help to revitalise some of the players.

76' Chukwueze wriggles his way to the edge of the box and fires a low effort at goal, but it lacks the power or placement to trouble Ter Stegen and the German holds on comfortably.

75' Barcelona are playing a 4-3-3 once again, with Vidal back in midfield and Messi on the right to accommodate Braithwaite up front.

69' NO GOAL! The ball is played into Messi's feet and he has three defenders for company, but evades them with quick feet and finds Vidal, who slides it through for Roberto at the byline. It's cut back to Messi on the edge of the six-yard box, and he side-foots home! However, VAR overturn the goal for an offside call just prior to the move that led to Messi scoring.

67' SAVE! The attack carries on and Messi receives the ball with his back to goal on the edge of the box, before finding Alba in space on the left. The full-back takes one touch too many as the angle closes on him, however, and ends up firing straight at Asenjo at the near post.

66' SAVE! Rakitic is sent away down the left and he reaches the edge of the box before sweeping the ball square to Vidal, who hits it first-time and connects well, but Asenjo is down quickly to beat the low effort aside!

64' Messi goes to ground and removes his boot as he nurses what appears to be an injured toe. It does not seem to be serious enough to prevent him from carrying on for the moment, however.

62' Barcelona are now in a 4-2-3-1 shape rather than their previous 4-3-3. Roberto has dropped in to right-back, with Rakitic partnering Busquets at the base of midfield. Vidal has moved out wide to the right, with Griezmann on the left, Messi up front and Puig behind him.

58' SIDE-NETTING! Suarez is played in behind by Vidal on the right and he elects not to cut back for a team-mate, but instead feints and lets the ball run across him to the byline before firing at goal. Asenjo just gets hands to it on the stretch and turns it into the side-netting, but a goal-kick is awarded! Suarez is not at all pleased.

54' Roberto checks inside from the left but runs into traffic in the box and lays it back for Alba. The left-back swings in a cross, but it's overhit and Cazorla tries to break, but Semedo blocks him off and wins a free-kick.

52' Messi attempts another audacious piece of skill as he tries to loft a volley over the head of Asenjo, but the goalkeeper reads it and stands tall to collect.

50' Cazorla is frustrated as he dribbles through the middle of the pitch, only to run into the referee, who inadvertently tackles him! He blows his whistle and awards the hosts a free-kick as a result, however.

48' Villarreal are now playing a 4-2-3-1. Substitute Gomez has gone out wide to the left, allowing Cazorla to take up a free role behind Bacca, who is now the lone striker.

46' We're back underway for the second half!

Villarreal have been restricted to less than 30% of the ball and have been undone by some flashes of top individual quality. However, they have looked dangerous when they have been able to break quickly and test Barcelona's defence, particularly when running in behind.

There goes the half-time whistle! A thoroughly entertaining half was kicked off by Torres' unfortunate own-goal inside the opening three minutes, but Moreno levelled the scores when Ter Stegen could not hold Cazorla's stinging low drive. However, two dazzling displays of skill from Messi set up two outrageous finishes - a curling effort right into the top corner from Suarez and an audacious chip from Griezmann - to put Barcelona back in the driving seat. It's 3-1 to Barcelona at the break!

45' + 4' HALF-TIME: VILLARREAL 1-3 BARCELONA

45' + 2' Barcelona look hungry for a fourth and are ramping up the pressure, but they just can't quite force another opening.

42' SAVE! Messi nips in to get to a loose ball on the edge of the box and feeds it wide for Alba on the left. He cuts it back to Suarez in space in the centre of the area and the striker fires a low effort at goal, but Asenjo saves! The rebound comes back to Suarez, but his follow-up effort is blocked over the bar!

40' This game is beginning to get stretched and Barcelona are starting to click. Their passing combinations are getting sharper as the game goes on.

38' SAVE! Barcelona then find themselves in a three-on-one situation and the ball is worked to Vidal on the right side of the box. He takes a touch and thumps at goal, but Asenjo stands tall and beats it away!

37' SAVE! Bacca is instantly involved as he's sent away down the right channel, beating Pique for pace and stinging the palms of Ter Stegen with a fierce shot from a tight angle!

34' The game resumes and Villarreal are on the front foot, with Cazorla sliding a lovely ball from deep into the path of Moreno, but his attempt to square for Alcacer is cut out and the ball is cleared away.

32' The game is briefly stopped for a belated drinks break. Barcelona's extensive spells of possession have led to a game with very few natural stoppages to this point.

30' OVER! Villarreal break effectively down the left through Moreno and it's worked to Chukwueze in space on the right. He jinks his way to the edge of the box and unleashes a fierce, dipping strike towards the top-left corner, but it's just over the crossbar!

28' Barcelona are back in cruise control and are working the ball around patiently as they seek to carve out an opening past Villarreal's two banks of four.

26' Villarreal enjoy a rare spell of possession, but Cazorla's cross from the left isn't met with any conviction in the middle and the ball is lost again.

24' Messi slides the ball behind the Villarreal defence for Suarez to pick up in the box. Asenjo comes charging out to face him up, however, and the striker has to turn back before trying to dribble through one too many defenders and losing the ball. The flag then goes up for offside anyway.

22' Messi has now been involved in a goal in each of his last eight LaLiga games against Villarreal (six goals and three assists).

16' CHANCES! Suarez gets behind the Villarreal defence in the box and fires across goal with his left foot, but Asenjo makes an excellent save to deny him! At the other end, Moreno thumps at goal from a tight angle on the left, but can only find the side-netting!

11' Villarreal just can't seem to hold onto the ball on the rare occasions that they do have it, although Barcelona's hold on the game appears to be loosening a little.

9' Messi feeds the ball towards Vidal, advancing into the box from midfield on the right, but the Chilean lets it run a little too far and then slices a woeful effort well wide from a sharp angle.

7' A rash challenge from Vidal on Cazorla sees Villarreal awarded a free-kick in their half. It's a chance for some possession and respite for the hosts.

5' Barcelona continue to dominate and Griezmann has a go at getting on the scoresheet himself after linking up with Suarez, but his effort is blocked away.

1' We're underway at the Estadio de la Ceramica!

However, Villarreal are winless in their last 21 LaLiga games against Barcelona (D6 L15), their worst run against the Blaugrana in the top-flight, having won their previous three meetings against them between 2007 and 2008.

Villarreal come into this game in good form, having not lost in their six games since the restart, winning five of those and keeping five clean sheets.

Barcelona boss Setien, however, makes just two changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Atletico Madrid in their last outing. Rakitic and Puig are named among the substitutes, while Griezmann and Roberto are brought in to play from the start.

Villarreal head coach Javier Calleja has made five changes to the team that beat Real Betis 2-0 last time out. Pena, Gomez, Trigueros, Ontiveros and Bacca all drop to the bench, with Gaspar, Iborra, Chukwueze, Cazorla and former Barca striker Alcacer coming into the side.

Barcelona substitutes: Jorge Cuenca, Alex Collado, Neto, Dani Morer, Martin Braithwaite, Ivan Rakitic, Ansu Fati, Ronald Araujo, Inaki Pena, Riqui Puig, Arthur, Monchu.

Barcelona XI (4-3-3): Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Nelson Semedo, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, Jordi Alba; Sergi Roberto, Sergio Busquets, Arturo Vidal; Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann.

Villarreal substitutes: Fernando Nino, Andres Fernandez, Bruno Soriano, Carlos Bacca, Manuel Morlanes, Javier Ontiveros, Moi Gomez, Sergio Lozano, Xavi Quintilla, Sofian Chakla, Ruben Pena, Manu Trigueros.

Villarreal XI (4-4-2): Sergio Asenjo; Mario Gaspar, Raul Albiol, Pau Torres, Alberto Moreno; Samuel Chukwueze, Andre Zambo Anguissa, Vicente Iborra, Santi Cazorla; Gerard Moreno, Paco Alcacer.

Barcelona find themselves seven points adrift of league leaders Real Madrid coming into this match and need a win over Villarreal to cut the gap back to four as Quique Setien's side seek to defend their domestic crown.

The 25-year-old has completed a move to Poland after parting ways with Spanish side Real Betis in June

Polish Ekstraliga side Sportis KKP Bydgoszcz have completed the signing of Nigeria international Alice Ogebe on a one-year contract, Goal can exclusively report.

The Bydgoszcz-based outfit secured the Super Falcons striker as a free agent after she parted ways with Spanish Primera Iberdrola side Real Betis following the expiration of her one-year contract.

Ogebe, who arrived from Nigerian side Rivers Angels last September, made eight appearances for the B team, scoring five goals in seven starts before being promoted to the A team in January.

With the A team, the 25-year-old only featured twice, against Deportivo La Coruna and Madrid CFF, before suffering an injury in January and she was unable to return due to the coronavirus cancellation.

Ogebe's exit means four Nigerians have left Spanish top-flight outfits this summer after Osinachi Ohale, Peach Efih and Uchenna Kanu quit Real Madrid, Sporting Huelva and Sevilla, respectively.

After finishing 11th with just four points from 12 matches before the coronavirus cancellation last season, they will seek to challenge for domestic glory in their 2020-21 Polish Ekstraliga campaign.

She could prove to be a huge bargain with experience, having enjoyed a brief stint with Red Star Belgrade in Serbia and also featured at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France last summer.

Having arrived from Spain in the Polish city on Saturday, Bydgoszcz has made the Nigerian striker their first major signing since the renaming and merger of the Polish outfit early last month.

Ogebe is expected to be unveiled by Bydgoszcz on Monday and will likely make her debut against Medyk Konin in a pre-season warm-up match at Sielska Stadium on July 8.

WSL clash between Man City & Birmingham postponed due to Covid-19

The Stellies manager speaks about his player’s ambition to join the reigning MTN8 champions next season

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker says striker Iqraam Rayners cannot wait to join his new club SuperSport United, since the player has a desire to start a new chapter in his career.

Barker also confirmed they have released former Kaizer Chiefs defender Morgan Gould.

The former AmaZulu manager backed the 24-year-old Rayners to do well under coach Kaitano Tembo's guidance, and that they have given him their blessings.

Rayners has signed a pre-contract with the reigning MTN8 champions but he will have to wait to join the Tshane giants because if the coronavirus pandemic.

“The desire for the boy to join SuperSport was just too big. He really wants to go to Pretoria and join his new club and decided that he was going as he was looking forward to starting a new chapter with them,” Barker told the DailySun.

“We give him our blessing to go although he was supposed to wait until we finish playing the remaining six games.”

On the other hand, the former University of Pretoria boss has confirmed they have parted ways with the former Amakhosi player who signed a one-year contract at the beginning of the current campaign.

“We have four other centre-backs in our team and can cope in that department," he added.

"When counting Gould we have five central defenders and I felt we have more than enough in one position."

Looking at the former Cape Town Santos forward, Rayners has featured in 24 matches for the Cape Winelands side across all competitions and has netted five goals whilst chipping in with six assists so far.

For the former Amakhosi centre-back, Gould has been used sparingly but his experience has been vital for the former National First Division (NFD) champions in the top-flight.

According to the publication, the former Wits University midfielder did not see the need to keep the former Jomo Cosmos, Matsatsantsa, and Bafana Bafana defender until the end of the season.

As things stand, Stellies occupy the 11th place on the log with 27 points from 24 matches and the PSL rookies still have six matches to play before completing their debut season in the elite division.

Why Manchester United Will Win the Europa League

The Serie A club have said that they are choosing to focus on the current campaign before thinking about the next one

Inter have rejected reports that they are in the midst of negotiations with Chelsea over the potential arrival of Emerson Palmieri.

The Serie A side have been linked with a €20 million (£18m/$22m) move for the Brazil-born star, who has struggled to find regular game time under the guidance of Frank Lampard.

The 25-year-old left-back, who has featured seven times for the Italy national team, has featured in only 19 games in all competitions this season and has not been involved in a Premier League encounter since featuring in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in January, only making the bench in two of their subsequent nine outings.

While he appears to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, the San Siro outfit have indicated that they have not opened talks with the Blues.

“I understand the many questions about transfer speculation, but I can say we have not had any contact or opened any negotiation for Emerson Palmieri,” Nerazzurri CEO Giuseppe Marotta told DAZN.

“We are making evaluations for next season, but the most important issue remains this current campaign.”

Marotta, meanwhile, also indicated that star man Lautaro Martinez, who has been linked with a summer switch to Barcelona, has not shown “the slightest desire to leave” the club.

Inter’s slim hopes of winning the Serie A title were surely ended on Sunday as they slumped to a 2-1 home defeat against Bologna, a match in which they found themselves a goal to the good thanks to Romelu Lukaku, and a man up after the visitors’ Roberto Soriano was dismissed.

Lautaro then missed a penalty before Musa Juwara levelled for the guests with 16 minutes left, sparking an incredible collapse. Alessandro Bastoni was sent off three minutes later and Musa Barrow soon followed up to score the winner for the mid-table outfit.

Inter now find themselves 11 points behind Juventus in the race for the Scudetto, with the defending champions seven points clear of Lazio, who also suffered defeat this weekend as they went down 3-0 at home against a Zlatan Ibrahimovic-inspired AC Milan.

Nevertheless, a top-four finish seems assured for the 2010 Champions League winners, who are 16 points clear of fifth-placed Roma

All aboard! Atletico, Real Madrid stars travel to derby on public buses

The Senegalese star inspired the Reds' home victory with the opening goal in Sunday's league outing

Sadio Mane continued his fine form in front of goal against Aston Villa with the opening strike in Liverpool's 2-0 victory.

Sunday's effort means the 28-year-old has been involved in eight goals in his last five Premier League appearances against the Claret and Blue - six goals and two assists.

Following a goalless first-half, Mane broke the deadlock at Anfield in the 71st minute, thanks to Naby Keita’s assist.

The strike was his sixth Premier League goal against Aston Villa, and he also scored the winning goal against Dean Smith’s side in the reverse fixture back in November, after providing an assist for Andy Robertson’s equaliser in that fixture.

Mane has also registered his 20th goal for Liverpool across all competitions this season, a feat he has reached in his last three seasons with the Reds.

He scored 20 goals in the 2017-18 campaign, and he grabbed 26 goals the following the season which included 22 league goals that earned him the 2018-19 Premier League Golden Boot alongside teammate Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Sunday's smash hit stood as Mane’s 50th effort at Anfield since he joined Liverpool from Southampton in June 2016.

So far this season, the 28-year-old has contributed 16 goals and seven assists in helping the Reds end their 30-year wait for a Premier League title.

Second-half substitute Curtis Jones sealed maximum points for Jurgen Klopp's men four minutes after replacing Keita in the 85th minute.

The triumph moved Liverpool's tally at the top of the league table to 89 points after 33 matches.

They visit Brighton and Hove Albion for their next Premier League fixture on Wednesday before hosting Burnley on Merseyside on July 11.

A trip to Arsenal followed by a home game against Chelsea and a fixture against Newcastle United will complete Liverpool's 2019-20 successful league season.

The Premier League champions already have a fearsome forward line, but their former captain thinks that is not enough

Liverpool may regret not buying another striker to act as back-up to their established front three, says former Reds skipper Graeme Souness.

The newly-crowned Premier League champions have one of the most fearsome forward lines in world football, with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane plundering 50 goals and registering 28 assists between them this season.

Souness, though, fears the Merseysiders’ attacking threat is significantly blunted when one or more of the trio are missing, with those in reserve not up to the required standard.

Divock Origi is regularly utilised as a back-up option and the Belgium striker was given a rare chance from the start against Aston Villa on Sunday, with Firmino dropping to the bench.

However, Origi struggled to make much of an impact before being substituted for Firmino after an hour, with the Reds opening the scoring through Mane 10 minutes later before Salah set up substitute Curtis Jones to seal the victory late on.

Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Timo Werner before deciding to drop their interest, which cleared the way for Chelsea to sign the RB Leipzig striker.

Souness fears Liverpool may regret that decision and thinks they should be looking to bolster their forward line ahead of their title defence next season.

“I’ve been in this situation where you just drop that intensity by just one or two per cent,” Souness told Sky Sports.

“Liverpool obviously have said before the game ‘let's get the tempo up, let’s try and be sharp, let's get back to our normal game’. From the back they are snapping it around, but there’s just that extra yard that’s missing in the final third.

“Given Liverpool are world champions, [they have won] the Champions League and now the Premier League, I’m disappointed they are not buying another striker.

“Because when you don’t play one of that front three, [going] to Origi it is a fair drop in quality and they might live to regret that.

“I’m hope I’m wrong and they end up buying someone to fill that gap when one of those three don’t play.

“But that’s what you’re seeing tonight. Firmino links everything from back to front and they are missing that.”

Man United fans protest ahead of Liverpool match

Los Blancos' head coach has said the Colombian's reasons are personal and will not be made public

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has claimed James Rodriguez wanted to be left out of the Primera Division leaders’ fixture against Athletic Club on Sunday.

Despite the absence of the Colombian, Madrid won the match 1-0, taking the victory thanks to a Sergio Ramos penalty that came after the kick was awarded following a VAR review.

James has been strongly linked with a move away from the Bernabeu this summer, having featured only 14 times for the capital side in all competitions this season, and speculation is set to mount in the wake of Zidane’s words.

“He wanted to be left out because of his own reasons,” Zidane told the media after a victory that ensured his side opened up a seven-point advantage at the summit of the standings ahead of rivals Barcelona, who have a game extra to play.

“The reasons are between us and I’m not going to tell you any more.”

Meanwhile, after Ramos scored his third penalty in two weeks, all of which have been decisive in Madrid victories, Zidane responded in a frustrated manner to claims that Los Blancos are benefitting from decisions from the match officials.

“I'm tired of hearing that we won because of referees,” he said. “It's not going to change, but the players deserve respect. Nobody is going to take our minds off our goal.

“I like our strength more than anything. We are showing solidity and balance when we lose the ball and we're doing very well. We've lacked a spark in attack and we can improve, but our defensive strength is so important.”

Eight points from the last four games will be enough to seal the title for Madrid, and while a first domestic crown since 2016-17 is within touching distance, nothing is being taken for granted.

“Until it's mathematically won, we cannot relax or think about the title,” the 1998 World Cup winner said.

“It's a very important victory, a hard-fought game with a lot of intensity.”

Marquinhos 'disgusted' by PSG crashing out of Coupe de France

15' This hasn't been a kind fixture to Southampton in recent years: they've lost 10 of their last 12 games against City - including each of the last six in a row, with an aggregate score of 17-4.

13' Southampton rob City in their own half again, before Redmond drives at their backline and slips a threaded pass through to Ings that Laporte brilliantly stretches to poke away from the dangerous striker.

11' Southampton have rallied quickly after a nervy start. They've managed to unsettle the City backline and it's resulted in a few errors that they haven't quite been able to punish.

9' Redmond fires a swerving free-kick from 30 yards that flicks off the wall, winning the hosts a corner. Ward-Prowse puts in a succession of deliveries as City fail to clear their lines, but eventually the away side play their way out of danger.

7' Huge chance for Southampton! Ings plays a scruffy throughball towards Adams and Zinchenko completely mishits his clearance allowing the striker to get clean through on goal! Adams lashes a shot across goal and it finds its way to Remond, who stands on the ball with an open goal at his mercy before City clear!

5' This has been an ominous start for Southampton: City have nimbly evaded their press frequently and they're passing it crisply into attacking areas. The hosts might want to try and just survive this opening spell of pressure.

3' A neat pass from Jesus unleashes Bernardo Silva down the right-wing and he gets to the byline before cutting a cross back into the six-yard box that Ward-Prowse just about manages to hack away from harm.

2' City begin with intent as David Silva attempts to jink his way down the left flank, but Walker-Peters races across to put in a firm tackle and win back possession.

1' Manchester City get the first half underway.

The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick off is just seconds away!

A key issue for Southampton to work on now is their home form. Southampton have lost 10 Premier League home games this season – they’ve never lost more at home in any of their previous 92 campaigns in their league history.

City, on the other hand, make six changes after beating Liverpool 4-0: Walker, Mendy, Rodrigo, De Bruyne, Foden and Gundogan all drop out of the starting lineup as Pep Guardiola refreshes and rotates his squad.

Southampton make three changes to the side that defeated Watford 3-1 away last time out. They keep their 4-4-2 formation but Vestergaard drops out of the squad for Stephens, while Smallbone and Long are replaced by Armstrong and Adams.

SUBS: Nicolas Otamendi, Kevin De Bruyne, Claudio Bravo, Phil Foden, Tommy Doyle, Rodrigo, John Stones, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Ilkay Gundogan.

MANCHESTER CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Joao Cancelo, Eric Garcia, Aymeric Laporte, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, David Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling.

SUBS: Jake Vokins, William Smallbone, Alexandre Jankewitz, Shane Long, Kevin Danso, Will Ferry, Michael Obafemi, Moussa Djenepo, Angus Gunn.

SOUTHAMPTON (4-4-2): Alex McCarthy; Kyle Walker-Peters, Jack Stephens, Jan Bednarek, Ryan Bertrand; Stuart Armstrong, James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Nathan Redmond; Danny Ings, Che Adams.

Manchester City, meanwhile, arrive on the crest of a wave after thumping champions Liverpool 4-0: another win today will take them a step closer to ensuring a top four finish.

Hello and welcome to live commentary of this Premier League fixture between Southampton and Manchester City. The hosts enter this one in promising form with two wins from three since the resumption of the season. With survival all but assured and sitting comfortably in 14th place, they’ll be looking to test themselves against top opposition today and finish the season with a flourish.

Joan Laporta confirms how much salary Barcelona plan to cut in 2023

Goals from Sadio Mane and Curtis Jones settled a game in which champions Liverpool were far from their best against Aston Villa.

Liverpool won their first game at Anfield as Premier League champions as a 2-0 victory piled the misery on relegation-threatened Aston Villa.

Having been angered by the Reds' 4-0 loss to Manchester City on Thursday, Jurgen Klopp saw his side triumph on Sunday even if the performance still left much to be desired.

Sadio Mane's 71st-minute goal broke the visitors' stubborn resolve before Curtis Jones added late gloss as Dean Smith's men, winless in nine in the league, remained in the bottom three.

For Liverpool, this was not the celebratory homecoming they would have envisaged after a first top-flight title in 30 years but their march towards the 100-point barrier continues.

A tepid first half made very clear that Villa's game plan was to sit deep and frustrate Liverpool, who simply could not find a way through.

Indeed, when the first shot on target finally arrived in the 33rd minute it was Alisson who was called into action and not former Reds goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

That Douglas Luiz strike, easily dealt with by Alisson, proved to be the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock before the interval.

With Liverpool having won their previous 23 home league matches, they were always likely to emerge victorious in this one and Klopp's side got the job done in the second half.

The German made a triple change on the hour mark, introducing Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum.

And finally, the breakthrough came. Mane – who scored a 94th-minute winner in the reverse fixture – stroked home from Naby Keita's assist via the underside of the crossbar to register his 50th Anfield goal for Liverpool.

Jones, who signed a new contract this week, was introduced in the 85th minute and scored his first Premier League goal four minutes later, steering into the bottom-left corner from Mohamed Salah's knockdown.

What does it mean? Reds still rolling towards history

Liverpool are now 11 points shy of the century mark and that is a tally they will be eager to reach to cap this remarkable campaign in style. Villa, meanwhile, are running out of time to put enough points on the board to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Mane the man for Liverpool

In a poor game of precious few chances, Mane had to step up when the time came, and he did just that. The Senegalese connected well with Keita's low cross and that strike took the wind out of Villa's sails, leaving them vulnerable to another setback, which Jones duly provided.

Robertson off his game

Andrew Robertson's stellar form this season has been one of the many highlights for Liverpool, but he has now turned in a couple of off-colour displays. The full-back was arguably the worst of a bad bunch at City and was only marginally better here, in far less testing circumstances.

Key Opta Facts

- Liverpool have now won each of their last 34 Premier League matches when scoring the first goal of the game.

- Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 57 Premier League home games (W47 D10), winning each of the last 24 in a row.

- Aston Villa have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 24 Premier League away games, their longest such run in the top flight since September 1989 (38 games).

- Villa are without a victory in nine Premier League games (D2 L7), the longest current winless run in the competition.

What's next?

Brighton and Hove Albion will be the next team to form a guard of honour for the champions when Liverpool head to the south coast on Wednesday, while Villa must defeat in-form Manchester United on Thursday if they are to avoid having their winless run taken into double figures.

Mourinho: Tottenham could be champions in many European countries

Bologna scored twice inside the final 16 minutes to seal all three points against Inter, who had taken the lead through Romelu Lukaku.

Lautaro Martinez's missed penalty cost Inter dearly as Bologna staged a superb second-half comeback to seal a stunning 2-1 win at San Siro on Sunday.

Romelu Lukaku had given Inter a first-half lead with his 20th Serie A goal of the season before Bologna's Roberto Soriano received a red card for dissent after 57 minutes.

Martinez then squandered a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 five minutes later, striking his attempt from the spot straight at Lukasz Skorupski.

The visitors took full advantage of that reprieve, scoring through Musa Juwara and Musa Barrow inside the final 16 minutes to seal a memorable away win over the Nerazzurri, who had Alessandro Bastoni dismissed for two bookable offences.

Lukaku looked dangerous in the opening stages and gave his side a deserved 22nd-minute lead, tapping home from close range after Martinez's header had crashed back off the post.

Skorupski pawed away Antonio Candreva's long-range strike moments after the interval, while at the other end Barrow thundered a 25-yard strike against the upright.

Bologna's hopes of getting back into the game appeared to suffer a blow shortly before the hour mark when Soriano was dismissed for dissent after he had been penalised for a foul on Roberto Gagliardini.

Their woes should have been compounded when Mitchell Dijks brought down Candreva in the area, but Martinez's penalty was kept out by Skorupski.

The Argentina international paid a significant price for that miss, Juwara firing an equaliser through the flimsy resistance of Samir Handanovic in the 74th minute.

Bastoni received his second yellow card after 77 minutes, with Inter's misery compounded soon after when Barrow powered through to fire past Handanovic.

Substitute Alexis Sanchez twice came close to salvaging a point in the closing stages but Bologna held on for the most unlikely of away victories.

What does it mean? Shell-shocked Inter throw it away

Quite how Inter conspired to throw away all three points will remain a mystery for some time. They were dominant for the first hour, yet Bologna sensed a vulnerability after Martinez's penalty miss and they took advantage in some style.

The result leaves Antonio Conte's side four points behind second-place Lazio and 11 adrift of leaders Juventus, though they may now be looking over their shoulder with Atalanta so close. As for Bologna – led by former Inter player Sinisa Mihajlovic – they jump up to ninth in the table.

Juwara makes stunning impact

The 18-year-old could not have picked a better time to open his Serie A account. The substitute had already seen a sharp volley kept out by Handanovic before he got the better of the Inter goalkeeper with a well-struck shot from just inside the area.

Martinez pays the penalty

He has been one of the star performers for Inter this season, but Martinez fluffed his lines from the spot. There is little doubt Conte's men would have gone on to register a fourth win in five games since the season resumed had he found the net.

Key Opta facts

- The last time Inter lost a Serie A match in which the opponent received a red card before the 60th minute was in February 2001 (1-0 against Napoli).
- After scoring in three of his first 11 home games in Serie A this season, Romelu Lukaku has scored in four of his last five.
- Lautaro Martínez missed his first penalty in Serie A, having scored with his three previous attempts from the spot.
- At 18 years and 192 days, Musa Juwara is Bologna's youngest player to score since Luigi Della Rocca in January 2003 (18 years and 146 days).
- Musa Barrow has scored in three Serie A games in a row for the first time in his career.

What's next?

Inter will hope to return to winning ways when they travel to Hellas Verona on Thursday, while a buoyant Bologna host Sassuolo a day earlier.

OGC Nice: What you need to know about William Saliba's new club

The Belgian tactician slammed the condition of the pitch in Musome as his side dropped vital points in their quest to finish second

Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Luc Eymael has described Karume Stadium in Musome as “a pitch good for cows and pigs” after they secured a 0-0 draw against Biashara United on Sunday.

The draw was something of a blow for Yanga who are looking to widen the gap between them and second-placed Azam FC, as they have now amassed 61 points against Azam's 59, who play in the late kick-off.

Eymael has now told Goal he was surprised the pitch was passed to host a top-flight match under the condition it was in, saying it can only be good to be used by cows and pigs.

“It is a shame for a team like Yanga to play in the pitch which is just good for cows and pigs, the changing room was catastrophic, you cannot play soccer in such a pitch, how is it possible for a league match to be played there?” Eymael posed a question to Goal after the match.

“It is impossible to play in such a pitch, you know me I like teaching my players to play good soccer, I am not enjoying this kind of soccer when playing in such a pitch, I only enjoy playing soccer when using the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

“But we hit the crossbar more than three times, we created a number of scoring chances though we could not convert them into goals.”

Asked whether the draw could affect their intentions to finish in the second position, Eymael said: “Yes it can affect our second place but we are okay, we will fight until the end, we knew very well it will be difficult but we were not lucky like I told you we hit the crossbar but could not score.”

Yanga are yet to lose a game since the Mainland Premier League restarted on June 13. They resumed their league assignments and defeated Mwadui FC 1-0 away from home.

A second tie saw them draw 1-1 against JKT Tanzania on June 17 before they picked up another 2-2 draw against Namungo FC in what was their first home match since the resumption.

On June 27, they had to fight hard and secured a 3-2 win at home against Ndanda FC.

Meanwhile, Biashara United have lost one of the three matches they have played since they took to the pitch again after the league suspension in March.

The Musoma side lost 1-0 to Ndanda FC on June 20 before picking up one of their heaviest wins against the Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC FC) after a 4-0 outing on June 24.

Their last game saw them fight for a 1-1 draw with Azam.

'I'm pretty sure that he will stay' - Guardiola hopeful De Bruyne will sign new Man City contract

The Egypt international had a bittersweet experience on the pitch with the Baggies taking all three points

Ahmed Hegazi scored his first Championship goal of the season and got sent off as West Bromwich Albion defeated Hull City 4-2 at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

The Baggies had started the resumption of the second-tier on a bad note with a goalless draw against Birmingham City before losing at Brentford.

This gave Leeds United the chance to control top spot, but West Brom adjusted in their last outing at Sheffield Wednesday, which ended in a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Charlie Austin (penalty) and a Matheus Pereira brace.

Slaven Bilic’s men started on the front foot through former Southampton striker Austin in just the fourth minute of play, the assist coming from Pereira.

Hull equalised 20 minutes later via Kevin Stuart, but Hegazi made it 2-1 to the hosts eight minutes prior to the half-time break with a powerful header from Pereira’s corner.

The Tigers equalised again two minutes after the restart this time from Mallik Wilks, but West Brom responded almost immediately with Pereira making it a hat-trick of assists as he provided for Kamil Grosicki.

Grady Diangana put the final nail in the coffin in the 76th minute with the assist coming from former Hull and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jake Livermore.

Hegazi played for 90 minutes but got his marching orders in injury time for a second bookable offence having gotten his first yellow in the 12th minute of the game.

The Egyptian still had a strong game regardless of the red card, with five clearances, one tackle and one interception. He also won five of seven aerial duels and successfully played five long balls from nine.

It was only Hegazi’s 14th Championship appearance of the season which has been due to fitness issues that kept him out for the first three months of the campaign.

The 29-year-old has been an unused substitute 14 times and has now completed 90 minutes in every game since the restart of the league.

Nigeria international Semi Ajayi was an unused substitute having come on in the final two minutes of West Brom’s last match. The 26-year-old has been a regular starter this term with a total of 3,332 minutes in the Championship.

West Brom remain in second spot on the table, one point behind leaders Leeds United with their next game at home against promotion hopefuls Derby County on Wednesday.

Primeiro de Agosto 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs (0-1 agg): Castro fires Amakhosi into Caf Champions League group phase

The Miner shares his opinion on their participation in continental inter-club football competition in 2020-21

Ashanti Gold defender Eric Donkor has doubts about the club's preparedness for continental inter-club football next season.

The Miners have been given the nod by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council to represent the West African nation in the 2020-21 Caf Confederation Cup.

This is after the country was unable to select a candidate on the pitch due to the premature termination of the 2019-20 football season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The winners of the Ghana FA Cup, which together with the Premier League (GPL) headlines the topmost affected competitions by the season cancellation, would have represented the country in the Confederation Cup.

“I cannot say that we are ready because we haven’t played for some time now,” Donkor told Bryt FM.

"This year’s competition is still on course which I know they will finish by September. So I’m sure Caf will tell us the way forward after the competition.

“We should wait for them to finish this year’s edition and see how the preparations will go for us because I believe in training and team unity.

“You cannot just make purchases like Messi and Ronaldo thinking that you can do well. Football is a team sport so you have to build a team before you can face your opponent.

“For Ashantigold, I cannot confirm whether we are ready or not but frankly speaking we are not ready."

Donkor's position sharply contradicts AshGold chief executive officer Emmanuel Frimpong, who declared the side almost ready for the African adventure.

"We are 85 per cent ready for Africa," Frimpong told Kumasi FM.

"When the league was suspended, there was a rumour of AshantiGold and Asante Kotoko going for Africa hence we started preparing and putting everything in place.

"Our coach has been sending training schedules for the players at home. My players are very ready for anything.

"AshantiGold would have been at the top of the league but for the cancellation of the league."

Joining AshGold in Africa next season are Asante Kotoko who have been confirmed for the Champions League.

The two sides similarly represented Ghana in this season's continental campaign where they both got eliminated in the first round.

Firmino saves Brazil as Uruguay set up clash with Colombia win

The Nerazzurri appear increasingly confident that Argentine will not be leaving for Camp Nou this summer

Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta says Lautaro Martinez has shown no desire to leave and remains hopeful the club can fend off any interest in the Argentina striker this summer.

Barcelona are believed to be frontrunners to sign the 22-year-old, who has scored 17 goals for Antonio Conte’s side this season.

The deal would see him link up with international team-mate Lionel Messi at Camp Nou, with the Barca skipper reportedly a big fan of Lautaro’s talents and keen to play alongside him at club level.

As reported by Goal in April, Barca are willing to offer the Argentine a contract worth €10 million (£9m/$11m) a year. But the main issue appears to be the transfer fee.

Lautaro has a €111m (£97m$121m) buyout clause that expires on in July. But such a fee is out of reach for Barca at present, with the Catalan side still needing to offload players just to meet their budgetary requirements for 2019-20. The club may therefore wait for the clause to expire before making a lower bid for his services.

Lautaro, meanwhile, has seen his form decline in recent months, scoring just once in 10 matches, and he also missed a penalty in Sunday's game against Bologna. That has led to accusations his head had been turned by Barcelona and he had already begun to look ahead to life at Camp Nou.

Marotta, though, remains defiant and says the striker is not agitating for a move, which significantly strengthens Inter’s hand in any negotiations that may be taking place with the Spanish giants.

“Lautaro has not shown the slightest desire to leave,” Marotta told DAZN.

“Aside from dates and deadlines, the clearest situation is that Inter do not want to sell their champions or interesting young talents. If the player were to ask to leave, we would evaluate that together, but so far, that request has not arrived.

“I believe that, being a young player, it can boost his career to continue playing for a while longer at Inter. Being an Inter player means being part of a big club and that ought to be reason enough for him to feel proud.”

Gareth Southgate Reveals Harry Maguire Fears After Denmark Red Card

The Liga leaders again benefited from a VAR review as they beat Athletic Club, but their coach was keen to keep the focus on his side

Zinedine Zidane feels his Real Madrid players deserve more respect as he is "tired" of their victories being attributed to refereeing decisions.

Madrid celebrated a seventh straight win on Sunday as they prevailed 1-0 at Athletic Club, moving seven points clear of rivals Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

However, their goal came courtesy of a Sergio Ramos penalty, awarded only after a VAR review highlighted Dani Garcia's trip on Marcelo.

Iker Muniain revealed his frustration at the call after the match, echoing comments from Barca's Gerard Pique, who suggested the officials were making it difficult to stop Madrid winning the title.

Zidane bristled at the accusations, though, telling a news conference: "I am tired of being told that we won because of the referees.

"This is not going to change. But the players deserve respect. Nothing is going to take away from our goal."

The head coach accepted Madrid were not at their best at San Mames, yet he pointed to a tough schedule which saw the leaders in action against Getafe as recently as Thursday.

"Our strength is what I like the most. We are showing our strength and our balance when we lose the ball," Zidane said. "We are doing very well.

"We have lacked brilliance in attack and we can improve, but most important is our defensive strength.

"[The problems in attack are due to] a little bit of everything. It can be something physical, too. We play every three days.

"But I don't think it is our own thing; I think it is something for all the teams. There is a lot of difference between the beginning and the end."

Talk is turning towards when Madrid might clinch the title, with just four games to play and Barca struggling for form.

But Zidane is not getting ahead of himself, adding: "Until it is mathematically won, we cannot relax and think about the title.

"We have shown our strength and our solidity, but I am not going to talk about it, even if you ask me every day, because I already have a lot of experience in my career, also as a player, and all the games are difficult.

"What I can say is that winning seven games out of seven is impressive."
