Fabinho: Liverpool without UCL is unthinkable

The former Mohun Bagan midfielder feels that there 'a lot of good things that lay ahead' for the Mumbaikars...

Mumbai City's Raynier Fernandes believes that the Islanders have a bright future after the club's takeover by the City Football Group (CFG). The CFG have 65 per cent stakes in the club ciurrently with Ranbir Kapoor and Bimal Parekh holding the remaining shares.

Mumbai City are yet to win the ISL so far and they have reached the play-offs just twice. Last season, they missed out on the same by a whisker after finishing fifth under Jorge Costa. Mumbai ended up parting ways with the Portuguese coach and have instead decided to rope in former FC Goa manager Sergio Lobera.

Lobera has been one of the most successful coaches in the ISL, thogh he is yet to win the title, and the Mmbai-born midifelder feels the club will only see their profile rise in the next few years.

"The two years (2018-2020) that I played for Mumbai City, it was amazing. Right from the training sessions, coach (Jorge Costa), to the matches, everything was just brilliant. It's just that we couldn't qualify for the play-offs but this is football [last season]. There are ups and downs and every team faces this problem but it is upon the players, coaches and the management to believe in each other and show what we got.

"Now that the City Football Group has come on board, it's a good thing for the club and for Indian football overall because there will be many new things that we will get to see, although now because of the lockdown it may take time. In the coming years, you will see the team perform well because the City Football Group will be coming with a plan. We just have to trust the plan and work on it," he told Goal.

The Ranbir Kapoor co-owned side have had a mixed performances over the last couple of seasons given the heavy defeats they suffered at the hands of FC Goa where they conceded 20 times in six matches. However, they did reach the play-off in the 2018-19 season and did a double over Bengaluru FC in 2019-20.

"Whenever we played them, it was very difficult. They keep the ball (FC Goa) and play. Their game plan was completely different from ours. The last two seasons in which I was there weren't that great and the only thing I can say about it is, now that's the past and we don't want to think about it.

"In the coming season, all the teams will be looking to get all three points in each and every game. So we are also looking forward to a great future with a good plan. We will be looking to not commit the same mistakes and try to be strong enough to beat each and every team with our own plan."

The club are set to undergo a change in philosophy with Lobera's possession-based football. In addition to the Spaniard, the club have roped in several other former Gaurs in Hugo Boumous, Ahmed Jahouh, Mourtada Fall and Mandar Rao Dessai. They have also signed the likes of Tondonba Singh and Hmingthanmawia (Valpuia) from Chennaiyin FC and Aizawl FC respectively. Mumbai City are also in advance talks to finalising the signing of Bartholomew Ogbeche from Kerala Blasters to replace Moudou Sougou.

Season 7 of the ISL is expected to be staged as a single venue event in Goa from November and Raynier can't wait to get back to training with his team-mates.

"The main thing will always remain the training. Whatever we do in the training will show in the game. So I'm looking forward to the training. All the players are very excited and I hope everything gets back to normal soon for us to play football. I think there are a lot of good things that lie ahead for us and it's just a matter of time before we get back and showcase everything that we have.

"The season is bound to see a cramped schedule because it's in one region but as players, what we can do is, we have to be mentally aware of what is going to happen and also be prepared for it," he propounded.

Lewandowski transfer talk addressed by Bayern Munich boss Nagelsmann

The club's superstar duo took to social media after seeing their side fall just short of European success

Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have taken to social media to congratulate Bayern Munich after they defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the Champions League final on Sunday.

A 59th-minute header from former PSG man Kingsley Coman proved enough for the Bundesliga giants as Thomas Tuchel's side were unable to claim their first Champions League crown.

Having finally ended their quarter-final curse in the competition, the Parisians were unable to find a way past Manuel Neuer with both Mbappe and Neymar denied by Bayern's veteran shot-stopper.

PSG's star Brazilian was brought to the club from Barcelona with one eye on Champions League success but is adamant his side gave it their all in Lisbon.

"Losing is part of the sport, we try everything, we fight until the end," Neymar posted on Twitter. "Thanks for the support and affection from everyone. Congratulations Bayern."

Mbappe, meanwhile, was unable to add to his impressive trophy collection with the 21-year-old already boasting a World Cup and four Ligue 1 titles.

Much like Neymar, the Frenchman was quick to accept the result and congratulate his German opponents on their success.

"Disappointed not to end this year with the best of awards, but life is made that way," Mbappe posted on Twitter

"We fought with all our might. Congratulations to Bayern. And a big thank you for your support."

Brazilian defender Marquinhos was disappointed to see PSG come up short in the decider but was still proud of how far his side managed to go in the competition.

"A final is not to be played, it is to be won. On the other hand, we're all proud of our team. We must be proud to have reached the final. We have to keep going in this way," he told RMC Sports.

"Now it's time to get back to our habits in Paris, to think about the next season."

PSG now have less than a week to recover from defeat and prepare for the 2020-21 campaign with Tuchel's side set to face Lens in Ligue 1 action on August 29. Lens lost their Ligue 1 opener against Nice 2-1 on Sunday.

Watford Eye Slaviša Jokanović as Potential Nigel Pearson Replacement

The German coach wants his side to enjoy winning football's biggest club trophy and won't stop their celebrations anytime soon

An elated Hansi Flick declared that he's not set a deadline for when the party has to stop after Bayern Munich won the Champions League in Lisbon to complete the treble.

Kingsley Coman, promoted to the starting line-up by Flick, headed home the only goal of the game after 59 minutes to settle a tight final at the Estadio da Luz on Sunday.

Flick only took charge of Bayern on an interim basis after Niko Kovac's departure last November and since becoming permanent the coach has won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League.

Bayern's victory over PSG in Lisbon was their 21st in a row and they are the first side to win every game in a Champions League campaign.

Flick said Die Roten will celebrate long and hard after they were crowned champions of Europe for a sixth time.

He told reporters: "I've not set a deadline for when the party has to stop. It's only right to celebrate when you win something. You have to have a party and I don't know when that party will end."

Bayern were not at their brilliant best in the final, but Flick felt they were worthy winners.

He added: "So many people deserve credit for this victory. You saw during winter how much determination we have in this team, which is obviously something you wish for as a coach.

"It was a high-tempo, high-octane match with chances at both ends. What was great was how the team played as a lot of people wondered how Bayern would defend against their impressive front line.

"I think we did a very good job on that score. We had a good attitude out there through the team that was great to see.

"We really make life difficult for the opposition. When you think how we worked defensively until the 92nd minute – [Robert] Lewandowski was chasing after the ball, that was incredible. It was a complete team performance."

Lewandowski ended the competition as top scorer with 15 goals to his name - only two short of Cristiano Ronaldo's record - and he urged everyone to never give up on their dreams after winning his first Champions League title

Bwalya questions 'harsh' Perez red card against West Ham

The Polish striker was quick to use his own recent success as a symbol of the reward that comes as a result hard work and determination

Robert Lewandowski said "never stop dreaming" after the Bayern Munich star finally won his first Champions League title.

Bayern claimed their sixth European Cup/Champions League crown and completed the 2019-20 treble thanks to Sunday's 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

Kingsley Coman's second-half header separated the two teams in Lisbon, where Bayern became the first team in European Cup/Champions League history to win 11 successive games.

It capped a memorable night for Lewandowski, who had never won the Champions League prior to the PSG showdown after losing the 2012-13 final against Bayern during his time with Borussia Dortmund.

Lewandowski – an eight-time Bundesliga champion who enjoyed a remarkable season with 55 goals in all competitions – revelled in the achievement, writing via Instagram: "Never stop dreaming. Never give up when you fail.

"Work hard to achieve your goal. Thank you for your support, for believing in our abilities. We are the Champions of Europe!"

While Lewandowski did not score against PSG, the Bayern striker was still crowned the Champions League's top goalscorer in 2019-20.

Lewandowski scored 15 goals for Bayern, five more than Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland as the Poland international fell just two shy of Cristiano Ronaldo's record.

Bayern manager Hansi Flick was careful not to single out his star striker solely for the club's successful season but concedes he hopes Lewandowski gets the recognition he deserves.

"I don't highlight any individual players. But he became the top scorer and is incredibly important to us," Flick said post-match.

"I don't want to judge who was the best player. If the best player in the world is chosen, we hope that he will be right at the front there."

Lewandowski was a favourite to claim the Ballon d'Or this year before France Football made the controversial decision not to hand out the award due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand recently encouraged Lewandowski to start a petition to ensure the Ballon d'Or is awarded and the Polish star gets the recognition he deserves.

Bayern are now set to enjoy a few weeks off with their first match of next season expected to take place on September 11 in the DFB-Pokal against Duren.

Sevilla thrash woeful Man Utd to reach UEL semis

The French capital was hit by plenty of emotion as their team's European journey ended in heartbreak

Pictures of burned out and trashed vehicles near Paris' famous Champs-Elysees have emerged in the aftermath of PSG's defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final on Sunday.

Thousands of PSG fans had gathered near the landmark to watch the final and were left heartbroken as their team went down 1-0 courtesy of Kingsley Coman's second-half header.

Images uploaded by Getty Images photographers show plenty of unrest occurring after the match, with pictures of firefighters extinguishing a smoking vehicle, while another car is also pictured laying on its side.

There is also stills of perpetrators throwing flares in the Champs-Elysees, while rubbish bins can also be seen burning as PSG fans marched down the famous promenade in huge numbers.

France is still currently gripped by the coronavirus pandemic with the gathering of fans still occurring at both the Champs-Elysees and PSG's home ground Parc des Princes despite Paris being declared a Covid-19 red zone.

PSG weren't without their chances in the defeat to Bayern, with Kylian Mbappe missing a gilt-edged chance after being teed up by Ander Herrera, while Neymar had a goal-bound drive superbly saved by Manuel Neuer.

It was former PSG academy product Coman who broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, heading home Joshua Kimmich's cross at the back post.

PSG coach Thomas Tuchel was disappointed by the outcome but proud of his players for the grit that they showed in the match.

"It was a real fight! I don't know if we can see it on TV," Tuchel said to RMC Sport. "We gave our all, we left our hearts on the field.

"We can't control the outcome. It's a goal that makes the difference between two super strong teams. I'm very proud of the way we played, of our mentality. That's all a coach can ask of his players.

"I'm disappointed, but not too disappointed. It's a close score. I'm convinced that if we score first we win the game 1-0."

PSG now only have six days to lick their wounds before beginning their campaign to retain the Ligue 1 title against Lens on Saturday.

Maguire, De Gea's mistakes doom Man United to exit as Sevilla's UEL love affair goes on

After enjoying a successful season in Germany, the Brazilian will head back to Spain but isn't certain how long he'll be there

Philippe Coutinho is unsure what his future holds ahead of his return to Barcelona from Bayern Munich.

Coutinho completed his loan spell at Bayern by winning the Champions League title after a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final on Sunday.

The Brazil international is expected to make a permanent move from Barcelona this close season with the former Liverpool star linked with a return to the Premier League.

Coutinho, who came off the bench against PSG, said he was eager for a strong 2020-21 season – but he is unsure where that will be.

"I haven't thought about this. I have to go back and I want to work hard to have a great year," he told Movistar+ . "I don't know if [it will be] in Barcelona."

As Barca finished 2019-20 trophy-less, Coutinho won a treble at Bayern, who crushed the La Liga giants 8-2 in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Coutinho scored a brace in that game and also came off the bench against PSG as Kingsley Coman's second-half header was enough in the final.

It meant PSG were denied a maiden Champions League title, but Coutinho still had praise for his international team-mate Neymar, who was left in tears after the match

"I told him that he had a great season and he is going to fight for this and to be the best in the world," he said.

Asked about his playing future before the final, Coutinho stressed it hadn't crossed his mind.

"My mind is fully focused on the competition. It’s a unique opportunity for us. I’m very happy to be in the Champions League final," Coutinho told Esporte Interativo. "On my future, I haven’t thought about it because I’m only thinking about the final."

Coutinho ended the 2019-20 season with 11 goals and nine assists to his name across all competitions with an ankle injury seeing him miss eight of Bayern's last nine Bundesliga games.

The 28-year-old scored the same number of goals last season with Barcelona but managed only five assists with the club less than impressed with his output as they opted to send him out on loan.

Why 'Matildas: The World at Our Feet' is must-see ahead of the World Cup

The Brazil international centre-back has said that he is ready to move on as his contract at Parc des Princes expires

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has confirmed that he will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.

Signed from AC Milan in 2012, the 35-year-old Brazilian has been a mainstay of the Parc des Princes side for the duration of his stay in France and has won the affection of the fans.

Although he was due to be released at the end of June along with Edinson Cavani and Thomas Meunier, he and striker Eric Choupo-Moting both penned two-month extensions to their contracts to allow them to play in the Final 8 of the Champions League.

PSG got closer to winning the prize than they have previously, falling to a 1-0 defeat in Sunday’s final to Bayern Munich, an encounter that the veteran confirmed will be his last, despite the club’s Ultra groups campaigning for him to be awarded with an extension.

“It was my last game in Paris,” he told RMC Sport. “I am sad. I apologise to the fans. I thank all the supporters for their love. I'll come back, with another role, in this club I loved. I want to play for another 3-4 years and play in the World Cup in Qatar.”

Chelsea and Fiorentina continue to be linked with the centre-back, who head coach Thomas Tuchel paid tribute to in his post-match press conference, suggesting a last-ditch attempt could be made to keep him.

“I'm going to talk about this with the club, Leonardo, and all those who are in a position to create the team,” he said. “Thiago was my captain and it was a pleasure to have a player with quality and personality like him.

“He extended his contract with us for two months. He gave his heart and energy on the pitch, he gave everything to win this Champions League. He deserved to win it.

“We went through some tough times, there were some big disappointments. I'm absolutely proud that he was my captain.

“We're going to talk to the club now, with him, to clarify the situation. No matter what the decision is, he'll still be my player. He's in my heart and it was incredible to play with him.”

League Two play-offs: Confirmed teams & dates for play-off semi-finals

The French attacker enjoyed seeing his club's rivals stumble on Europe's biggest stage

Marseille star Dimitri Payet mocked Paris Saint-Germain on social media after their defeat to Bayern Munich in Sunday's Champions League final.

In their first appearance in the final of Europe's elite competition, the Ligue 1 champions were beaten 1-0, with former PSG winger Kingsley Coman heading in the winning goal in the second half in Lisbon.

PSG's bitter rivals Marseille are the only French team to have won the tournament in men's football, having lifted the trophy back in 1993, two years after they reached their first final.

Payet was quick to remind his followers of that fact, tweeting a video of a PSG shirt apparently with a star above the crest, only to reveal a Marseille jersey underneath.

Videos of Marseille fans celebrating in the streets after the final whistle have also circulated on social media, with supporters jubilant that PSG's expensive project has still been unable to yield the biggest trophy in European club football.

In the build-up to the game, a ban on wearing PSG shirts or displaying banners in Marseille was imposed in a bid to prevent a repeat of disturbances seen during their 3-0 semi-final win over RB Leipzig.

However, police reversed the decision after accepting it had caused a lack of understanding.

Payet has previously declared Marseille remain the biggest team in France, hinting that PSG lack the same level of unity.

“I’ve said it before, but I play for the biggest French club,” Payet said in 2018. “And what’s more, we’re a team. We’ve seen that recently to play as a team is more important that having a bunch of individuals.”

While PSG fell short in the Champions League this season, they did claim yet another Ligue 1 title as they finished eight points clear of second-place Marseille in a shortened campaign.

Payet will be hoping to back up his social media swipe on the pitch next month when PSG host Marseille in the new Ligue 1 season on September 13.

Marseille were supposed to begin their Ligue 1 campaign against St Etienne on Friday only for the match to be suspended after the club returned four positive coronavirus tests.

The young full-back was quick to pay tribute to his country following his unlikely European success

Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies admits he never would have guessed he would become the first Canadian to win the Champions League

The 19-year-old defender played the full 90 minutes as his German side defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the final on Sunday

It's been a breakout season for Davies, who only began playing for Bayern's first-team in 2019 after joining the club a year prior from MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps

Already a regular for Canada's national team, the teenager wasted no time thanking his country for their support as he savoured his surprise Champions League triumph.

"I just want to say thank you guys for supporting me back home. This is for you guys," Davies said post-game.

"You know, who would have thought a guy from Canada playing at a club like Bayern Munich and winning the Champions League? I never could have guessed it.

"If someone told me this two years ago, I would've said you're lying but I mean dreams do come true and I just want to say thank you everyone for supporting me back home.

"Feels good, feels like I'm on top of the world. You know moments like these you dream of as a kid and I honestly can't believe it. As a footballer winning the Champions League is everything at club so you know I'm happy we can do it and I'm happy to be part of the squad that can do it as well.

"It's been a good season, we didn't start so well, but it's how you finish and not how you start. Throughout the season we had to build team chemistry...and to win the treble is an amazing feeling."

On match-winner Kingsley Coman, Davies added: "Kingsley, we knew he has pace, can play amazingly on his day and today he showed it. Every time one-on-one he went at the defender, did well and his goal, you don't really see Kingsley scoring headers, but that just goes to show you that guy is full of surprises."

The young Canadian also paid tribute to manager Hansi Flick, who replaced Niko Kovac earlier in the season and has now lead the club to a sixth Champions League crown.

"Hansi Flick is a good guy all-round, everyone loves him, there's not really many negatives things you can say about Hansi," Davies said. "Overall, he's just a great general guy."

Ronaldo will fight misconduct charge - Ten Hag

The German coach admits he'll need to rebuild his side after a disappointing end to their season

Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel has declared Lionel Messi is "very welcome" to join the club should the Barcelona star decide to pursue a move away from Camp Nou.

The Argentine legend has once again been linked with a possible Barca exit after seeing his side end the season without a trophy and lose 8-2 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Tuchel himself failed to guide his side past Bayern on Sunday as the Bundesliga giants claimed their sixth Champions League title with a 1-0 win over PSG

The Ligue 1 champions are one of few clubs in the world that could potentially afford a move for Messi and Tuchel conceded he certainly wouldn't say no to having the 33-year-old to join his side.

"He [Messi] is very welcome! We lost lots of players for this campaign only and we lose now Thiago Silva and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. We need to use the transfer window now to make the squad bigger," Tuchel told BT Sport

"The campaign will be very demanding without any breaks. We need to build a strong, strong squad.

"We decided not to talk about transfers in this period here. We will sit together in the next days. We have many things to do to keep the level of the squad.

"What coach says no to Messi? I think Messi finishes his career in Barcelona. He is Mr. Barcelona."

Despite a few chances to strike against Bayern, PSG were unable to triumph in their first Champions League final and Tuchel called on his men to rebound quickly next season.

"It is necessary if we want to keep the same level, we have to step up again. You have to go on. This level is necessary," Tuchel said.

"We showed again we can compete with the best teams in Europe with this mentality and attitude, in combination with our talent.

"We are a strong, strong side. We can be proud of that. We cannot worry too much because it is okay and we will go on."

While once again falling short on Europe's biggest stage, PSG ended their season with a domestic treble and lost just three games in a shortened Ligue 1 campaign.

Henry slams Mbappe: No player bigger than club

The midfielder's future has been subject to much speculation and his coach stoked the fire before giving an update

Bayern coach Hansi Flick has joked that Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara committed to the club after their Champions League triumph against Paris Saint-Germain.

Thiago started in the heart of midfield as the German giants won their sixth title in the competition at the Estadio da Luz on Sunday, with Kingsley Coman's second-half strike earning a 1-0 victory.

The Spanish international's future has been subject to much speculation over recent months with Liverpool rumoured to leading the race for his services, while Arsenal are also reportedly keen on the playmaker.

When asked where Thiago would be playing next season, Flick spoke in jest about the 29-year-old staying at the Bavarians - but revealed clarity would come soon.

"He told me that he would stay [at Bayern]," Flick joked in his post-match press conference.

"I just thanked him. I don't know [where his future lies], he doesn't know himself yet.

"We'll have to wait and see what happens in the next few days."

Because Thiago is entering the final year of his contract at Bayern, he is valued at just €30 million (£27m/$36m) - with the coronavirus pandemic's affect on finances also driving down his price.

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney believes Thiago's all-round skills in midfield would be a great addition to the Premier League as whole.

He also spoke of how close the ex-Barcelona player was to joining the Red Devils seven years ago and joked about his rumoured move to Anfield.

"He almost came to United in 2013 and now Liverpool are linked with him. He’s one of the best midfielders around – I just hope he doesn’t go there!," Rooney told The Sunday Times.

"He can take the ball, be composed on it, keep things ticking over – and he’ll put his foot in. He’s an all-round midfielder, really, with a bit of everything. He backs up that Bayern press and he drops in between the centre-halves to take the ball yet can also join in when they’re playing around the other box too.

"He’s a great player. It would be great to see him in the Premier League, actually."

Ona Batlle has 'everything to be a captain' as Man Utd work hard to keep star

The German wants others in his side to aid the superstars with the burden of finding the net

Paris Saint-Germain must not be reliant on Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for their goals, head coach Thomas Tuchel has said.

Speaking in the aftermath of the club’s 1-0 Champions League final loss to Bayern Munich in Lisbon on Sunday, the German deflected criticism from the pair, who missed the Parisian side’s biggest opportunities in the first half of the match.

Neymar had a one-on-one against Manuel Neuer but was thwarted by the German goalkeeper’s legs, while Mbappe missed a presentable opportunity when given space in the box, firing tamely at the goalkeeper.

“We've lacked efficiency,” he told RMC Sport . “We want Kylian and Neymar to score all the time. I'm proud because Ney had another amazing game. He showed his abilities, his mentality. For Kiki, it’s difficult. It was a miracle that he was with us [after injury]. Small details made the difference.”

Meanwhile, Tuchel was pleased with what his side produced against an opponent that won all 11 of their Champions League matches this season.

"It was a real fight!” he said. “We gave our all, we left our hearts on the field. We couldn’t control the outcome. It was a goal that made the difference between two super strong teams. I'm very proud of the way we played, of our mentality. That's all a coach can ask of his players.

“I'm disappointed, but not too disappointed. It's a close score. I'm convinced that if we score first, we win the game 1-0.”

Tuchel indicated that the opening goal was always likely to be critical, with Bayern's ability to score that goal determining the game.

“It's all about the little things; it could have been 1-0 for us,” he said. “We showed what it takes to win the title. Luck plays a big part.

“We've had chances. It's details, small details, it's a defeat against one of the best teams in Europe.”

Meanwhile, after the club’s best run in the competition, he is confident that he will be in position for the next campaign.

“Coach of PSG next season? Yes, I'm under contract, I can't see anything else,” he said.

PSG’s 2020-21 season begins in just six days when they travel to newly-promoted Lens in Ligue 1.

Football on TV this week: Games to watch & live stream in UK today, tomorrow & at weekend

The Spaniard feels the team's profligacy in front of goal cost them the opportunity to lift the trophy

Paris Saint-Germain's failure to take their chances was the main reason for their Champions League final defeat to Bayern, according to midfielder Ander Herrera.

The Parisians went down 1-0 to the German powerhouse at the Estadio da Luz on Sunday, with French winger Kingsley Coman scoring the only goal in the 59th minute.

Several golden chances were squandered by PSG throughout the match, including Neymar's one-on-one opportunity with Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer and Kylian Mbappe's scuffed shot after being teed up by Herrera eight yards out.

Herrera explained the horrible feeling of participating in a losing Champions League final and was adamant his team had the chances in front of goal to win the game.

He also said PSG had progressed as a club by reaching the decider of the tournament and vowed they would continue to build as a team.

"Now we feel like sh*t. We have to think, think that we've done something very important. We've built something important for the club and the fans," Herrera said to RMC Sport post-match.

"There are no words for anyone (sic) but tomorrow, I think we will think about what we did for the club, that we built something that we did together. Tonight's a tough night, including talking about it.

"We're going to try to make it back to the final. We're not going to throw away what we did.

"We've created a lot of chances, more than Bayern I think. This game, all the finals, if you don't score... the opponent has a lot of qualities. We created five or six chances, if you don't score, they have a lot of qualities.

"We've built something important that we can't throw away."

This was Herrera's first season at PSG after joining from Manchester United on a free transfer in July 2019.

The ex-Red Devil contributed to an extraordinary campaign from the French giants that included a clean sweep of domestic trophies including Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and Trophee des Champions.

PSG only have six days to lick their wounds before they begin their Ligue 1 title defence against Lens on August 29.

Flamengo unfairly sacked scapegoat Torrent in the era of 'no coaches'

The French side fell just short in the club's first-ever trip to the finale of Europe's top club competition

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi guaranteed that the club will win a Champions League title after falling just short in Sunday's finale.

Making their first-ever appearance in the competition's finale, PSG were unable to overcome Bayern Munich as Kingsley Coman scored the game's lone goal in a 1-0 win for the German side.

The loss was a disappointing one for PSG, who have invested heavily in their squad by bringing in the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe with the sole aim of winning the Champions League title.

Neymar was seen in tears following the loss, as PSG were unable to complete a historic quadruple after sweeping through French football once again this season.

Following the match, Al-Khelaifi admitted that the club was heartbroken but also guaranteed that this wouldn't be the last time PSG reached this level.

"We're sad. We don't forget that we've done great things this season. In the final, we lost 1-0 but we could have scored two or three goals," Al-Khelaifi told RMC Sport.

"It was very close. I am very proud of my players, we had a great season, a great tournament here. We had everything we needed to win, but that's football.

"We will work to win next season. Tonight we believe in it more than before. I promise we're gonna win the Champions League."

Despite the defeat, Al-Khelaifi says that the season is still a success and that Sunday's loss will be seen as a lesson for a club that is still looking to break through at this level.

"Players, honestly, everybody's coming out with their heads held high," he said. "They've created something.

"We played against the great Bayern, that's something. They're one of the best teams in the world. We lost 1-0. That's football. You have to improve on little things. This is our first final, Bayern's eleventh.

"We had a great season, we reached the final, we won four trophies. We're sad, we're disappointed, but there's a positive side.

"We'll get back one day, we'll work for it. It wasn't easy to reach the final, but we're going to do everything we can to win this trophy."

The German attacker believes his side are poised for plenty more silverware in years to come with their current mindset

Serge Gnabry singled out Bayern Munich's "crazy" team spirit after they defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the Champions League final.

After Gnabry scored a double in Bayern's semi-final win over Lyon, Kingsley Coman proved to be the hero on Sunday as he headed home a 59th-minute winner.

Hansi Flick's side are the first team in Champions League history to win every game on their way to the title and also the first to claim 11 consecutive victories in the competition.

The narrow win in the final secured the Bundesliga champions another treble and Gnabry was quick to highlight the strong bond this Bayern team have created, with more silverware already in his sights.

"Winning the trophy today is the best thing that could happen to us. We worked incredibly hard and in the end it came through to be the best team in Europe," Gnabry told BT Sport.

"It's the final, Paris came out wanting to win and so did we. Nobody is going to give up easily but we came through.

"As long as it was 0-0, it was always going to be open for us. Of course, they were going to have chances. It was lucky they didn't score and lucky we did score.

"It has always been said that the spirit of this team is crazy. We always fight for each other and we have a strong bond. Hopefully we can build on that and win more."

On Coman, Gnabry added: "He helped us a lot. He came in and one-against-one we knew it would be difficult for the opponent. For him to score that goal after being out injured for a couple of games and to come back into the team was incredible."

Bayern managed to keep PSG scoreless in a Champions League match for the first time since April 2016 with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer making a number of key saves.

The German shot-stopper played down his own heroics but admitted his side had to fight tooth and nail to secure the title.

"I had a great game, but I can't say it was the best game of my career," Neuer told TF1.

"We knew we were playing against a really good team. We struggled to create and build, we didn't know what to expect tactically against this team."
