Colorado Rapids sign French winger Nicolas Benezet from Toronto FC
The Rapids acquired his rights from in exchange for $50,000 in General Allocation Money. Toronto will receive an additional $50,000 in GAM should Benezet starts 75 percent of all games this season.
“We’re delighted to add to our attack someone of Nicolas’ quality,” Rapids Executive Vice President and General Manager Pádraig Smith said in a release. “He’s a goal-dangerous, dynamic player who excels out wide, while also offering us positional depth with his ability to play multiple positions in attack.”
Benezet, 28, helped Toronto reached its third MLS Cup final in four seasons last year. He arrived on loan from Guingamp of France’s Ligue 2 midway through the 2019 season.
Before joining Toronto, Benezet made 86 appearances across four seasons with Guingamp. He scored 12 goals and had 10 assists for the club. The winger began his professional career with Nimes Olympique, making 59 appearances and registering 12 goals and 10 assists.
